Sunday Scripture

Happy Sunday May 03RD 2020. This is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us continue this praise – this worship – this celebration of our almighty God !

This is the 7TH Sunday in a row in which I am not praising and worshiping and celebrating my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ with my brothers and sisters of my church family together in the same place at the same time, but this is also the 7TH Sunday in a row in which our church is in our homes – because we brought the church with us when we physically left the building back on Sunday March 15TH.

We must continue to be the church – and bring the church – in everything we do – and everywhere we go.

But I do miss meeting together physically. This is the longest stretch that I’ve been away from my church family since the start of 2007 when I was not yet part of a church family. I am hopeful (and praying) that before this month is up – we’ll be back together again.

I continue my daily / nightly Bible Study here at home, and with Bible Study comes praying and sermon-writing. I’m almost done with my current sermon titled “Satan & Hell”. It was spun-off from my 4-part online-only sermon series leading up to Easter Sunday titled “Faces & Heels”.

Here’s what I wrote this past week in “Satan & Hell”:

… There are some out there who are – for a lack of a better term – conspiracy theorists. You think conspiracy theorists only exist on one side of the political spectrum ? Heh. Think again. There are crazies on both sides. They push a certain narrative or agenda, and then they throw in a bible verse or two to make it all sound legitimate. Don’t give in to the false prophets. Trust only in God’s Word.

You know Lucifer – before he became Satan – wasn’t satisfied in simply worshiping God. You see he wanted to be worshiped himself. He wanted stardom. He wanted to use all of the blessings that were given to him by God – for his own gain. There are many in the global church today – those who lead, and those who serve, and those who show up – that are just like Lucifer. They would rather make themselves glorious than give the glory to God. Don’t follow the Lucifers.

You know Satan knows where he’s going. In these last days he’s hard at work – along with his followers – the modern-day Lucifers. He’s trying to turn God’s believers and followers against each other. He’s creating chaos and havoc – gloom, despair, and agony on us. When he goes to the pit of hell – he wants to bring as many of us with him as he can.

2ND Thessalonians (2:9-12):

This man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles. He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction – because they refuse to love and accept the Truth that would save them. So God will cause them to be greatly deceived, and they will believe these lies. Then they will be condemned for enjoying evil rather than believing the Truth.

See Satan is going to look like God to many people – including some of God’s own believers and followers – but it won’t be the work of God. It will be the work of Satan – disguised as the work of God. But if you’re truly a disciple of God – immersed in His Word – consumed in His Spirit – then you will clearly see the difference between God’s Work of light and Satan’s work of dark. You won’t fall for the devil’s dirty deeds done dirt cheap …

My Fantastic Journey: It’s In The Lyrics

13 years ago this week The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus debuted on my chart with their breakthrough smash that was huge here in the U.S. – and also in New Zealand of all places. It was a Top 5 pop smash in New Zealand !

Here in the U.S. it was a multi-format crossover smash – huge at pop, mainstream rock, alternative rock, and Christian rock stations from coast-to-coast. It was a # 1 smash at Christian rock, and it hit # 5 on my chart at the time (which skewed Christian rock).

It tells the story of a young woman who is the victim of domestic violence in her home.

♫ Do you feel like a man – when you push her around ?
Do you feel better now, as she falls to the ground ?
Well I’ll tell you my friend – one day this world’s got to end
As your lies crumble down – a new life she has found ♫

Here’s its official music video – with over 79 million views over the past 11 years on YouTube:

♫ A pebble in the water makes a ripple effect
Every action in this world will bear a consequence
If you wait around forever you will surely drown
I see what’s going down ♫

You abuse anyone or anything, and you’ll have to answer to God in the end. It’s in the lyrics.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus are still recording, performing, and touring in 2020. They’ve been together since they formed in Clay County Florida in 2003.

Facebook Revival

I was on Facebook for not quite 5 years – from 31 March 2013 to 31 December 2017. Before Facebook I was on WordPress and Twitter, and after Facebook – I’m on WordPress and Twitter. OK – I’m still on Facebook; although, I stopped posting new material on 31 December 2017. I’m only on there now to keep up with my friends and family – nearly all of whom are only on Facebook and nowhere else.

Lately though I’ve been enjoying somewhat of a Facebook revival. I’m essentially reminiscing on my 35-year United States Air Force career. I’m a member of groups of alumni of my:

  • Basic Military Training Squadron (at Lackland AFB Texas)
  • Technical Training Base (at Chanute AFB Illinois)
  • 1ST Permanent Duty Station (at RAF Fairford United Kingdom)
  • 2ND Permanent Duty Station (at Homestead AFB Florida)

The Lackland, Chanute, and Fairford alumni pages are lots of fun, and I enjoy seeing all of the photos of yesteryear and interacting with my colleagues of the era. Eventually someone is going to post a photo of me from back then. I’m looking forward to that. Those 3 bases represented my first 2 years and 5 months of my military career from June 1985 to October 1987.

The Homestead AFB page is a bit different. The photos from the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s are fun, but for the most part it’s a bunch of long-retired guys with somewhat faded memories chitchatting back and forth about how beautiful the base once was when it existed back then. Most of them have moved far away from Homestead and South Florida, and many of them don’t even think that the base exists today. Some who have recently visited the area surrounding the base think that it looks post-apocalyptic.

It’s actually a bit annoying to read at times because I’m still working there, I’ve been working there since 1987, and these days I have a little something to do with the beauty of the base and its upkeep. So I take it a little bit personal when I read disparaging remarks about my workplace then and now. I think I’m one of just a few members on that page that actually works on the beautiful and busy base today.

So I’m keeping up with my military career over on Facebook. It’s a whole lot more fun than the political hatred that some of my Facebook friends and family engage and indulge in.

May is National Military Appreciation Month here in the U.S., Armed Forces Week is May 10TH to 15TH, and Armed Forces Day is May 16TH. Throughout the month of May I’ll feature military-themed stories here on my blog.

My Top 10 Hits – Week 167

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back 40+ years. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday April 26TH 2020:

  1. “Almost Home” – MercyMe [# 1 last week / 19TH week on chart]
  2. “Alive And Breathing” – Matt Maher [2 / 7TH]
  3. “I Will Fear No More” – The Afters [3 / 14TH]
  4. “(I’ll) Never Let You Down” – Hawk Nelson Ft. Hunter & Tara [4 / 5TH]
  5. “Your Name Is Power” – Rend Collective [6 / 16TH]
  6. “See A Victory” – Elevation Worship [5 / 12TH]
  7. “The God Who Stays” – Matthew West [7 / 23RD]
  8. “Waymaker” – Michael W. Smith Ft. Vanessa Campagna [8 / 14TH]
  9. “Keep Me In The Moment” – Jeremy Camp [10 / 2ND]
  10. “Great Things” – Phil Wickham [- / 1ST]

# 1 This Week In:
2019 – “Alive” – Big Daddy Weave
2018 – “Freedom Hymn” – Austin French
2017 – “Even If” – MercyMe

Phil Wickham returns to my chart for what appears to be an annual tradition; although, he’s a little bit early this year. His “Living Hope” was a Summer of 2018 hit, and his “Till I Found You” was a # 2 hit during the Summer of 2019. Now he’s back with his Summer of 2020 hit – a couple of months early. It’s “Great Things”, and it’s the lead-off track of his Summer of 2018 studio album, “Living Hope”. All 3 hits mentioned were actually released as promotional digital singles several weeks apart just prior to the album’s release, but their respective releases to Christian radio have been staggered since then.

Phil has used the upbeat “Great Things” to kickoff Praise & Worship at various churches where he led the music.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
