It’s My 20TH Anniversary Here In Homestead !

Exactly 20 years ago TODAY – Monday November 30TH 1987 – I departed from my original hometown of the Washington D.C. area for a new and mysterious place that I had never previously been to before in my entire life.

I was headed southbound by air down the Atlantic coastline to Miami Florida. I arrived at MIA late that night, and then I eventually got on some type of military shuttle bus that would take me the rest of the way to my ultimate destination – Homestead Air Force Base.

I got in to the base a couple of hours after Midnight on the next morning, and I checked in to the Billeting facilities on-base. Technically December 01ST is my anniversary date here in Homestead, but since I actually arrived at MIA late at night on the 30TH of November I’ve always considered this to be my anniversary date.

I was a young 20-year-old Active Duty Air Force Airman First Class when I first arrived at the base, and now I’m a not-so-young 40-year-old Department Of Defense General Schedule Civilian with 20 years of experience. Give me another 20 years (or probably less), and I should be retired from civil service and living the good life !

Top 5 Republican Presidential Nominees

As a follow-up to the CNN / You Tube Republican Debate that aired on CNN last night (which I watched earlier tonight on tape) Larry King has another one of his ‘not a scientific poll’ ‘Quick Votes’ up on his web page:

Who do you want to be the Republican Presidential nominee ?

(Here are the TOP 5 responses.)

30% – Rudy Giuliani
18% – Mike Huckabee
15% – Fred Thompson
14% – Mitt Romney
11% – Ron Paul

(I voted for 1 of the above.)

The Road Rage Files – Chapter 14

I understand that you (other drivers in general) are going to run stop signs as if they don’t really say ‘STOP‘ but rather ‘KEEP GOING IF YOU’RE TURNING RIGHT‘, and I understand that you (other drivers in general) are going to turn right on a red light without even stopping (or even slowing down at times).

But when you do so, and you see a single car (such as mine – with no other vehicle in sight behind me) headed your way on the main road with no stop sign and a green light then wouldn’t it be so very courteous of you of waiting a couple of seconds until I pass by before you make your unlawful move ?

It would save me from drastically slowing down or slamming on my brakes to avoid crashing in to you due to your illegal road maneuver. I’d like to keep my perfect accident-free driving record (since 1984) intact.

This is particularly a problem for those of you who live in a certain neighbourhood here in Homestead that has a lot of water and a lot of stone scattered throughout. You live in a real nice neighbourhood. Why are you all in such a hurry to speed out of it onto Speedway Boulevard and Campbell Drive ?

The Fortune Cookie Message Of The Week Club

TODAY I managed to sneak out of the office at my normal Lunch hour, and I made it all the way to the Peking House aqui en Homestead. As you know it’s Homestead’s finest place for Chinese Food, Fun, Fights (from the kitchen), Music, and Broken English. It’s the type of place where as soon as I open the front door they pretty much acknowledge my presence, tell me ‘Anywhere’ (pointing to the entire restaurant – anywhere that I wish to sit), and watch as I immediately proceed to fill-up my plate at the all-you-can-eat buffet (or as I like to say it – ‘boo-fay’).

This week’s ‘Fortune Cookie Message Of The Week’ for all of you bonafide club members worldwide is actually a repeat. You see apparently the Writer’s Guild Of America strike has actually affected fortune cookie messages. I got this one back on Monday July 30TH 2007 up the road at China Garden in beautiful Naranja Lakes:

‘If it seems the fates are against you today, they probably are.’

There are no fates against me today. I woke up at precisely 5 AM, and I had a peaceful day at work. Of course there are still another 6½ hours to go before this day ends for me.
