Sunday Scripture

On this 31ST and final day of May of 2020 my church family – the children of the lady – met corporately in our sanctuary for the first time in 77 days – since 11 Sundays ago.

Our Lead Pastor Bob welcomed us and addressed us, and then the Praise, Worship, and Celebration began – led by our Worship Pastor Ben and our sister Shirley. After the first song I greeted my church body with help from the start of the 122ND Psalm:

I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD.” And now here we are …

We continued to sing to our LORD, and then Pastor Bob preached his timely sermon on “The Church Under Attack”.

Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. Yes – truth is gone, and anyone who renounces evil is attacked. The LORD looked and was displeased to find there was no justice. He was amazed to see that no one intervened to help the oppressed. So He Himself stepped in to save them with His strong arm, and His justice sustained him. (Isaiah 59:14-16 NLT)

That Scripture sounds a lot like Sunday May 31ST 2020.

Following service I went to my other family at the workplace. We became an instant church family this afternoon, as we mourned and then celebrated the life of our beloved coworker who suddenly lost his life early this past Saturday morning while driving himself to the local hospital. I preached to my brothers and sisters – my coworkers – on this afternoon – barely keeping it together with sweat and tears covering my face.

God has our brother now. He will take great care of him. And our brother will root us on from up above, as we continue to fix the base and clean it up.

Bedtime Stories

‘The Fortune Cookie Message Of The Week Club’ posted earlier tonight got me thinking about what the Bible says about success and complacency through it all. I went digging into the New Testament – specifically the 2ND Book of Corinthians.

I found this intriguing passage in Chapter 3 (New Living Translation):

1 Are we beginning again to tell you how good we are ? Some people need to bring letters of recommendation with them or ask you to write letters of recommendation for them.
2 But the only letter of recommendation we need is you yourselves ! Your lives are a letter written in our hearts, and everyone can read it and recognize our good work among you.
3 Clearly, you are a letter from Christ prepared by us. It is written not with pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God. It is carved not on stone, but on human hearts.
4 We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ.
5 It is not that we think we can do anything of lasting value by ourselves. Our only power and success come from God.

The way that I read that Scripture above is that you don’t need to bother God with boasting of how good you are and what good you’ve done. Your true success can be seen easily in your heart and in your soul. If one can see the goodness that you have done for others there – then that is the ultimate measuring stick of success. It’s not the material goods and possessions that surround you on the outside that matter, but rather what’s going on in your heart, in your mind, and in your soul. That’s what God cares about. That’s what He always sees. If He sees good in there then you are His, for that goodness – it came from Him.

Monday Night Countdown

Early in the morning during a typical 7-mile drive from home to work nearly two years ago towards the end of August 2006 I flipped the radio dial off of Y-100 (Mainstream / Secular TOP 40) and discovered CALL-FM (Christian TOP 40). Little did I know that such a mundane moment as changing the radio station in the car would signal the beginning of God’s fantastic journey for me. Little did I know that my previous life was about to come to a gradual end. Little did I know that I was about to be saved and reborn onto a new Life.

Peter 1:23-25 (NLT)
23  For you have been born again. Your new Life did not come from your earthly parents because the life they gave you will end in death. But this new Life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.
24  As the prophet says, “People are like grass that dies away; their beauty fades as quickly as the beauty of wildflowers. The grass withers, and the flowers fall away.
25  But the word of the Lord will last forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you.

This life-changing period in time was clearly documented at the time on my once popular hit music web site. This week’s ‘Monday Night Countdown’ signifies what was essentially my personal soundtrack at the time. It’s the TOP 5 songs that were on the radio at the time as God was rescuing me from the darkness and leading me into the daylight.

5.  Love Addict – Family Force 5

4.  High Of 75 – Relient K

3.  Time After Time – Spoken

2.  The Stand – Last Tuesday

1.  Desensitized – Jonah33
