Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday May 15TH 2022, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

It’s the 203RD edition of #SundayScripture. I’ve enjoyed bringing God’s Good News to you every Sunday for the past 4+ years. My first #SundayScripture was presented on February 25TH 2018, and it’s continued on almost every Sunday since then. (I’ve missed 18 Sundays over the past 221 weeks.)

I Thank You for checking out my blog on a regular basis. I know that some of you only come here for #SundayScripture and #Top10Monday. I also have a rather large readership for #TravelThursday and #RetroFriday. And of course all of the bots that check out my blog every day – particularly the posts that I wrote several years ago. (Bots with fake identities and profiles don’t just exist on Twitter and Facebook. They are also over here on WordPress.)

Starting this week and continuing for the rest of the month (May 2022 for the bots) I’ll be posting a 5TH entry each week – starting this Tuesday to cap this week – and then again this Wednesday to kickoff the new week.

Starting next #SundayScripture – and running through the end of June – I’ll be transcribing one of my recent sermons that I preached to my church family at the end of February – “Stones & Stumbles”. It’s the follow-up to “Holy & Redeemed” which I presented on here in December and January. “Stones & Stumbles” covers 1 Peter 1:23-2:9. (“Holy & Redeemed” concluded with 1 Peter 1:23.)

If you wish to learn more about the God I know then stay tuned to #SundayScripture. The best is yet to come !

Thank you for reading my blog for this day, and may:

The LORD bless you, and keep you.
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1997

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 2ND Friday of the month, so I go back 25 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday May 18TH 1997:

  1. “MMMBop” – Hanson
  2. “ESPN Presents The Jock Jam” – Various Artists
  3. “One More Time” – Real McCoy
  4. “Call Me” – Le Click
  5. “I Like It Like That” – The Blackout Allstars

Hanson and #Eurodance topped my hit music chart 25 years ago this week. The ESPN sports anthem mash-up was quite the strange one on the radio. It was like a modern techno counterpart to “Stars On 45” from 16 years earlier which itself was a medley of hit songs set to a disco beat. “The Jock Jam” was one of the most-played songs at Top 40 radio in 1997, as it received heavy airplay from May to November. It spent 31 weeks on my chart, and it was my # 7 hit of the entire year.

At the movie theatre I saw “Breakdown” 25 years ago. Now if memory serves me correct (and it may not) – I believe that Kurt Russell is in it, and it’s a road-trip thriller, and he and his wife are being chased and stalked by a sadistic truck driver. One of my favorite movies of all-time is Steven Spielberg’s “Duel” from 1971. I think “Breakdown” reminded me very much of “Duel” (same premise). I actually want to see both movies again. I thought about going to Wikipedia to see if my memory has indeed served me correctly, but I don’t want to read the plot and be spoiled by it. I’d rather watch “Breakdown” again to see if it’s what I remember.

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 30 years ago to May 1992. It’s when the 7″ Good For You Mix of Amy Grant’s “Good For Me” was in my Top 3.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday with 3 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !

Marsh Harbour

Welcome back to #TravelThursday. 15 years ago this week I was on Marsh Harbour in the Abaco Islands of the northwestern Bahamas – about 195 nautical miles from home. (Marsh Harbour is adjacent to southern Palm Beach County Florida.)

I was with my brother, his fiancé, our parents, and her parents and siblings. Most of us arrived on Wednesday May 09TH 2007, and we stayed until the following Wednesday May 16TH 2007. We stayed at the Bahama Beach Club resort. My brother and his fiancé got married there on Saturday May 12TH 2007, so today is in fact their 15TH wedding anniversary !

It was a fun wedding. It was a fun week. We explored Marsh Harbour and some of the surrounding Abaco islands. I have some 290 photos of that week on my computer – chronologically sorted from arrival to departure. My brother took all of the photos. (I had not yet become an amateur photographer.)

Over 100 photos cover a fun 5½-hour family trip via ferry to and from the neighboring island of Elbow Cay – where we visited the Elbow Reef Lighthouse and the small village of Hope Town.

View from atop the Elbow Reef Lighthouse

This vacation was just 8½ months into my salvation (3½ months as part of my first church family). As a baby Christian learning and understanding God’s Way I was very conflicted as to how I should act in certain circumstances – particularly where drinking alcohol was involved. I chose to abstain from it completely. It really made me look like the odd one out, but I think that’s what’s God’s plan for each of us who believe and follow Him. Don’t blend in with others. Be different. Be radical.

I was also a bit ill that entire week. I had near total blockage in my right ear. I could barely hear out of it, and it gave me headaches all throughout that week. I played it off, and I didn’t tell anyone about it. Soon after I returned back home I scheduled an appointment with an #ENT. At that appointment the doctor removed multiple chunks of ear wax from my right ear and flushed both of them. My hearing was restored 100% after that.

One last thing that put a damper on this trip is that my cat’s health was quickly deteriorating in the days leading-up to it. I took him to his regular animal hospital before I left to be examined and kenneled. As it turns out he passed on the day after I returned back home. (I’ll post on that next Tuesday May 17TH 2022 – the 15TH anniversary of his death.)

I really did enjoy our family trip to Marsh Harbour. I’d like to go back there again with family, and enjoy the scenery, and do fun things like we did 15 years ago.

Next #TravelThursday we’ll visit Melbourne Florida. You know – I used to live there. I’ll tell you all about it. Let’s keep traveling together.

My Top 10 Hits – Week 273

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from the previous week. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back nearly 45 years. Here’s this week’s chart – for the week ending Sunday May 08TH 2022 – the 273RD week of this current era that began on Presidents’ Day Weekend of 2017:

2018 – “What A Friend” – Matt Maher
2017 – “Forgiven” – Crowder

EGYPT – Cory Asbury’s 4TH hit on my chart is this week’s fastest climber – ascending from # 6 to # 3. I featured its music video in last week’s edition, and I played it for my church body as part of Praise & Worship yesterday morning. After the video played I briefly talked about it.

BROOKE – Brooke Fraser (maiden name) / Brooke Ligertwood (married name) is no stranger to my chart. She’s been on twice before – as the lead singer of Hillsong Worship. “What A Beautiful Name” entered my chart way back on Week 4. The following year (2018) “Who You Say I Am” spent 4 weeks at # 1. “Honey In The Rock” is her first solo hit on my chart, and I love its sound !

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – with 5 new entries – known as #TravelThursday, #RetroFriday, #SundayScripture, #Top10Monday, and a special #BonusTuesday post.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
