The Hot Water Heater That Lasted Two Lifetimes

Happy Thursday March 19TH 2020 – the first day of Spring here in the U.S.A. Spring starts at 11:49 PM EDT / 8:49 PM PDT tonight. It’s our earliest Vernal Equinox since 1896. You can read all about why that’s the case at one of my favorite web sites – SPACE.COM.

So on to the weird headline for this blog post. This past Sunday morning I noticed something quite peculiar with the water coming out of my shower with the dial set at its usual position. The water was scalding hot !  I simply turned the dial clockwise a bit to allow more cold weather to breakdown the hot weather, and then I didn’t think much of it after that. Later in the day I turned on my kitchen faucet, and the water was scalding hot with the handle set at its usual position. The same was true for both of my bathroom faucets. It was then when I figured it all out.

My longtime hot water heater was dying. It’s common knowledge (apparently) that some hot water heaters gradually lose their effectiveness to produce hot water over an extended period of time. And then there are others that suddenly start to malfunction by near-boiling the water inside the tank just before they completely die. Mine was obviously the latter type. It was going on one final super binge before eventually burning out.

The next morning (Monday) – after a mostly sleepless night and actually dreaming vividly about my dying hot water heater – I took one final quick shower with great care. After that I called my favorite local plumbing company to schedule a service call to remove and replace my old hot water heater – which incidentally was manufactured in 1993 !  It was 27 years old !

A standard 40-gallon electric hot water heater isn’t supposed to last that long. You’re lucky if you get 10 to 15 years out of one. Mine somehow lasted twice that long. It was the hot water heater that was already in-place when I moved in to my current home back in 1995. I estimate that it provided me at least 8,500 hot showers over the past 25 years.

So it’s out with the old – and in with the new.

My favorite local plumbing company came through for me in my time of need, and they were in and out in almost exactly 2 hours. Normal hot water began flowing again within an hour after that. No more worries for awhile in the hot water department of my home.

My weekend of blogging is just getting started. I’ll be back tomorrow (Friday) with an all-new RETRO from March 2000.

Matt Maher is back on my chart with his 2ND single. It’s his follow-up to the # 1 smash “What A Friend” – which debuted at # 9 exactly 2 years ago next week. I absolutely love his new song. I loved it the first time I ever heard it on my recent road-trip to and from Orlando and Fort Myers. I love its feel. I love that I can dance and dream to it. I love its simple but powerful lyrics:

♫ Joy still comes in the morning
Hope still walks with the hurting
If you’re still alive and breathing
Praise the Lord !

Don’t stop dancing and dreaming
There’s still Good News worth repeating
So lift your head and keep singing
Praise the Lord ! ♫

I tweeted those lyrics yesterday morning @ChrisMDay, and I tagged @MattMaherMusic. Matt was the 2ND one to like it.

Let everything that breathes sing praises to the LORD !  Praise the LORD !  (Psalm 150:6)

There he is – Matt Maher – on keyboards – as Kim Walker-Smith and Tauren Wells sing God’s Word. Chris Tomlin is also on the stage singing. This is from an April 2018 concert that I had an excellent floor seat at right alongside the stage.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter @ChrisMDay, and I’m the man behind the tweets for my church @LivingWatersHFL.

Enjoy this new week my friends ! May the God of hope fill you completely with joy and peace as you trust in Him.

Sunday Scripture

On this Sunday in March in Homestead Florida several churches in town announced cancellations of some or all of their regularly-scheduled services, but as our Lead Pastor stated today – “We’re a family”. Our weekly celebration together must continue on.

And so we did with 4 songs of Praise & Worship to Christ. In-between the 1ST and 2ND songs I greeted our church family, and I proclaimed these 3 verses from the 91ST Psalm (Verses 9 to 11):

If you make the LORD your refuge – if you make the Most High your shelter – no evil will conquer you – no plague will come near your home. For He will order His angels to protect you wherever you go.

Our Lead Pastor preached a very relevant and timely sermon titled, “The Horses Are Coming … What Are We Going To Do ?”

It was based on Revelation 6 – Verses 1 to 8. He told us about the Four Horsemen – and the significance of the white horse, the red horse, the black horse, and the pale green horse. They represent war, violence, economic imbalance, and death.

Revelation-6-1-8

It kind of sounds like the times that we’re in today. We’re in a very uncertain era.

The end is near, but have no fear, for our Lord will be here.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2005

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 2ND Friday of the month, so I go back 15 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday March 13TH 2005:

  1. “Numb / Encore” – Jay-Z Vs. Linkin Park
  2. “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” – Green Day
  3. “Since U Been Gone” – Kelly Clarkson
  4. “Rich Girl” – Gwen Stefani Ft. Eve
  5. “On The Way Down” – Ryan Cabrera

“Numb / Encore” was actually my # 1 smash of all of 2005, with “Since U Been Gone” and “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” as my # 3 and # 4 hits of the entire year respectively. Back in 2005 I compiled and published online a Top 25 (secular) pop music chart each week.

All this year on the 2ND Friday of the month I’ll be looking back at the year that was 2005. What a forgettable year that was. It was one of the worst years of my life. It’s the year that I turned 38, and it’s the year that I observed my 20TH anniversary working for the United States Air Force. I hated my job. I didn’t care for most of the people that I worked with because of what they did to me over the years. I couldn’t wait to get home each day, so that I could suffer in silence with my cat. I had more intelligent conversations with my cat at home than I did with people at work. I was not in a good place emotionally. But all of this would eventually lead to something miraculous and life-changing just a year later.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !
