Bible Christian Church God Music Scripture

Sunday Scripture

Today at Living Waters Full Gospel Church we celebrated God’s Glory in 2019 with Praise, Worship, & Celebration, and another powerful sermon from our Lead Pastor Bob who continued his “Journey To The Cross” series.

We also observed and celebrated Communion for the first time in 2019. (We do so on the first Sunday of every month.) Here’s a portion of how I led that:

Let me share God’s Word with you – about living water – from John Chapter 7 – and as the Bible says:

On the last day – the climax of the festival – Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to Me !  Anyone who believes in Me may come and drink !  For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from His heart.’”

That’s Verses 37 and 38, and the next Verse 39 does something very unique. It actually explains the previous two verses. Verse 39 reads:

(When He said “living water” He was speaking of the Spirit – who would be given to everyone believing in Him. But the Spirit had not yet been given – because Jesus had not yet entered into His glory.)

Jesus was preaching in Jerusalem at the Festival Of Shelters – the 7-day Fall harvest festival – also known as the Feast Of Tabernacles – or Sukkot. We learned more about this festival about 3 months ago when Pastor Bob preached about it.

See the Fall festival occurs right at the end of the 6-month dry season for the region. Water is precious at that time of the year. Jesus stepped forth and proclaimed that anyone looking for fresh moving water – living water – should come to Him and drink. He is the source of living water. Water that renews.

On each day of the festival the believers prayed for rain – living water. On the last day of the festival – “The Great Day” – they prayed for rain – 7 times.

Let’s be renewed on this great day. Let’s be renewed in 2019

Communion

Next Saturday night I’ll be at “Winter Jam 2019” in Tampa Florida with thousands of my brothers and sisters in Christ praising and worshipping our Lord, and singing and dancing with such artists as Hollyn, Newsong, Ledger, Rend Collective, Mandisa, Danny Gokey, and Newsboys United. On my next Sunday Scripture I’ll review the big show !

Until then may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.

The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1999

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 20, or 30 years ago (rotating each week). Here it is – for the week ending Sunday January 03RD 1999:

  1. “One Week” – Barenaked Ladies
  2. “Thank U” – Alanis Morissette
  3. “Baby One More Time” – Britney Spears
  4. “This Kiss” – Faith Hill
  5. “From This Moment On” – Shania Twain

4 out of 5 of those hits were featured 3 weeks ago when I last went #Retro to 20 years ago. Faith Hill has the lone new entry with her long-running country-pop crossover global smash “This Kiss”. It was in its 24TH week on my chart 20 years ago this weekend. It spent 5 weeks in my Top 5 and 20 weeks in my Top 10. It still sounds great today !

It’s halftime. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with my remaining two blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thank You for reading my blog.

The Major’s Top 5 Movies – 2018

That was quick. A new weekend of blogging begins … NOW. It’s the first weekend of 2019, so let’s look back at last year – 2018 – and the year at the box office.

I saw 23 movies at 10 different theatres in 2 states in 2018. That’s the least number of movies seen in a single calendar year since 2010, and it ended my 6-year streak of over 30 movies seen per year. I actually finished the year strong – with 6 movies seen during a 7-week period in November and December.

I rated 12 out of 23 movies as “4 stars”. I’ve eliminated 7 of them. That part was fairly easy. That leaves me with my Top 5. Ranking them from # 1 to # 5 took some thought, but here it goes:

1.  “I Can Only Imagine
2.  “Green Book
3.  “Searching
4.  “Beautiful Boy
5.  “The Greatest Showman

Overall it was a rather weak year for movies at the box office (for me anyway). That’s why it was my worst year since 2010. On the other hand it was the biggest year in box office history with nearly $12 billion in box office receipts here in North America. I don’t do action, adventure, or superhero movies. I used to do horror movies, but that fad has passed. I’m more into comedies, dramas, and dramedies nowadays.

I’m hoping for a better year in new movies in 2019. A couple of movies that interest me for next weekend are “A Dog’s Way Home” and “The Upside“.

It’s back to music tomorrow night when I go #Retro back to January of 1999.

# 1 Of 2017 – “Broken Things” – Matthew West

What a great year for God’s music. What a great chart to represent His music. Not a lot of surprises there. When “Do It Again” and “Grace Got You” became summertime anthems and finished as # 1 and # 2 on my special “Summer Of 2018” chart – they pretty much clinched # 1 and # 2 for the entire year.

MercyMe also had the # 2 smash of all of 2017 with “Even If”. Both “Even If” and “Grace Got You” fell 8 points shy of the # 1 spot for their respective years.

This chart was compiled by awarding 10 points for each week at # 1, 9 points for # 2, and so forth and so on down to 1 point for # 10. The points are then added, and the hits are ranked.

There were 13 # 1 hits in 2018, and all but 1 of them made the Top 18 – “Lions” (Skillet). It was a holdover from 2017, and its run at # 1 was actually at the end of its chart life.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – 4 blog posts on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.
