Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends ! This is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us be thankful for this new day that our God has blessed us with.

It is Sunday November 29TH 2020, and I am back home in South Florida from vacation with my family in North Texas ! I was there for 8 days, and as always it was filled with food and fun. We celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas together – known in our family as #ThanksChristmasGiving – a tradition that goes back about 15 years every traditional Thanksgiving Day. I got some great gifts this year !

My return trip back home via American Airlines was quite the bumpy ride. It was also a longer than normal ride. It took a more northerly route than its usual direct flightpath due to severe weather along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast. But the ride – even at 35,000 feet above southern Arkansas, northern Mississippi, and northern Alabama – was quite rough – with the A321 Airbus jumping up-and-down and swaying back-and-forth in the ferocious winds along both sides of a strong cold front. A few passengers got sick. I was worried for a few minutes that I was getting sick as well, but luckily I was OK.

Once we got above North Florida the ride suddenly became smooth and trouble-free. It remained that way for the rest of the trek to Miami International Airport.

Well just as I have done for the past 3 years on the Sunday after Thanksgiving or the first Sunday of December – I’m preaching a full sermon to my church family this morning. I got the word late this past Wednesday night in North Texas, and I was actually writing a brand new sermon in-between my family-time. I finished it late yesterday here at home. I’ll be preaching on “Spirit & Truth” today – mostly from the first-half of John Chapter 16.

When the Spirit of truth comes – He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own, but will tell you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring Me glory by telling you whatever He receives from Me. All that belongs to the Father is Mine. This is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever He receives from Me.’ (John 16:12-15)

My Top 5 Artists

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back 40+ years. But not on this Monday. My regularly-scheduled chart returns next Monday.

Today it’s a special. It’s my Top 5 artists over the past 197 weeks:

  1. Matthew West
  2. MercyMe
  3. Chris Tomlin
  4. Elevation Worship
  5. Micah Tyler

3 male solo artists and 2 bands – 1 traditional and 1 worship – make-up my Top 5 artists during this current era of my weekly hit music chart. They combined for 25 hits (out of 186).

Matthew West is not only my # 1 artist since February of 2017, but he is genuinely my favorite music artist of this era. His songs are catchy. They have powerful lyrics. He’s truly an entertaining guy who can also be very funny at times. I finally get to see him LIVE in concert for the first time this upcoming March (COVID-permitting) in a concert with Casting Crowns. (It was originally scheduled twice in 2020 but then postponed.)

I love MercyMe. They are my favorite band. Their 4 hits – “Even If” (# 1), “Grace Got You” (# 1), “Best News Ever” (# 2), and “Almost Home” (# 1) have spent a combined 79 weeks on my chart including 16 weeks at # 1. Their 3 # 1 hits are among my Top 20 hits of this era, and that gives me an opportunity to promote my next special coming up on Tuesday December 15TH – “My Top 20 Hits – 200 Weeks”.

I think we probably sing more Chris Tomlin songs during Praise & Worship at my church than any other artist. On April 21ST 2018 I was part of an amazing experience called “Worship Night In America” where I was part of a church family of about 15,000 strong. There’s an incredible review of that night’s experience right here

The last time I saw Casting Crowns LIVE in concert at the BB&T Center (same venue as “Worship Night In America” above) they were the headliner, and Hillsong Worship and Elevation Worship were the supporting bands. It was a great 3½-hour experience with an abundance of singing and dancing for Christ.

Micah Tyler’s got 2 hits coming up on my special chart in 3 weeks – “Different” and “Even Then”. They spent 26 and 27 weeks respectively on my chart, and they both hit # 1.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Sunday Scripture

Every Sunday at my church I officially open our service after a cold opening first song of Praise & Worship. I greet my brothers and sisters, and I present Scripture – almost always from the Psalms.

This is one of my favorites – and one that I’ve probably quoted most often over the past few years:

Those are the final two verses of Psalm 100, and I always read the entire Psalm starting with Verse 1:

Shout with joy to the LORD – all the Earth ! Worship the LORD with gladness. Come before Him – singing with joy. Acknowledge that the LORD is God ! He made us, and we are His. We are His people – the sheep of His pasture. AMEN.

Give thanks to our God with each new day. Praise and worship Him !

Sunday Scripture

For Jesus is the One referred to in Scriptures where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’ There is salvation in no one else ! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:11-12 NLT)

I do believe that. I’ve seen so many colleagues of mine come towards Christ and His church, and then leave Him and His church behind. It’s heartbreaking to lose a church brother or a sister to the world. It’s even more disheartening when a church leader leaves God’s Kingdom.

I’ve been part of God’s Kingdom now for the past 14 years and almost 3 months. This coming January will mark my 14TH anniversary of being part of a church family. I’m with my 2ND church family now, and this coming March will mark my 6TH anniversary with them. I love my current church family more than ever before !

I’ve experienced an abundance of good times over these past 14 years, and some bad times too. Some of the bad times that I’ve experienced I would have never imagined occurring post-salvation as a young believer and follower of God. 2009 comes to mind. In fact Thanksgiving Day of 2009 comes to mind. That’s when I had planned to get engaged to the woman that God had placed in my life. That never happened, and it took me awhile to recover from that. Not every day will be a perfect day on this journey. Sometimes the valleys last a bit longer than they should.

I’ve had several Pastors along my journey who weren’t as genuine as they seemed. I don’t want to be a Pastor like that. I want to treat my brothers and sisters the same way every day as I treat them on Sunday mornings.

I’ve heard it said many times that most people love Christ, but some of them just don’t care for His followers (the church).

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40 NLT)
