My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2009

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week). Here it is – for the week ending Sunday May 10TH 2009:

  1. “Open Season” – Air Five
  2. “The Difference” – Philmont
  3. “The Unavoidable Battle Of Feeling On The Outside” – FM Static
  4. “Black Sea” – The Contact
  5. “Set The Dial” – Run Kid Run

Air Five’s pop-punk song “Open Season” began an unprecedented 11-week run atop my chart on this weekend exactly 10 years ago. It was the longest-running # 1 smash of the 3½-year salvation era of my personal hit music chart, and it was my # 1 smash of all of 2009.

Sitting at # 4 was “Black Sea” from a Canadian band known as The Contact. They started together as a high school band in the late-1990s. I really liked this song back in the day (still do today), and it was played on my local Christian rock station a lot during the first-half of 2009.

It had an unusually dark and eerie feeling to it, but it delivered the Message that with God leading us through the darkness – the “Black Sea” – we will be just fine. It’ll be rough. It’ll be tough. We may think we’re drowning. We can’t do it by ourselves. We can’t rely on the world. The world will abandon us and leave us for dead. We need God to get us through it all. And He will. And He does. We will pass through alive !

♫ Outside
Out free
Marching through a black sea
We fight
In one direction

Inside
Liberty
Breathing in a black sea
Alive
With your infection ♫

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday afternoon and Monday night with two more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Share God’s Good News with all who will listen.

Home Sweet Homestead

I’m back from vacation !  My 6-day / 590-mile / 14-county Florida road-trip has come to a close. My trek started in deep South Miami-Dade County (where my home is), and it continued northward through Broward, Palm Beach, Hendry, Glades, Highlands, and Polk Counties, westward into Hillsborough County (Tampa), southward through Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee, and Collier Counties, and then back into Miami-Dade County. I also came within a few feet of touching (mainland) Monroe County for a second.

It was a fun trip. I saw a couple of current movies, I did a little bit of shopping (didn’t buy anything), I ate a lot of good food, I walked over 60,000 steps (to burn-off that good food), I did a lot of sightseeing, I visited some historical museums and animal-based tourist attractions, I went to two Christian music concerts, and I spent a lot of time at the beach.

I saw and I did things that I had never seen or done before in my life. This was a classic vacation. I get to spend the near future reminiscing about the times I enjoyed via the 140+ photos and 1 video I captured during all of the fun.

The 1 video I captured is a spectacular 3½-minute video of this past Tuesday night’s sunset on Venice Beach Florida. The video captures the 3 minutes leading up to the sun dropping below the horizon at sea as well as the 30 seconds right after that moment. I intended to post that video in its entirety here on my blog, but I realized that I can’t upload videos on here with my current WordPress plan. The video is also about 1:10 too long for Twitter, so I’ll have to figure out how to trim it down to 2:20 for Twitter.

In the meantime here’s Monday night’s sunset at 8:05 PM EDT on Venice Beach.

Sunset

From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets – the name of the LORD is to be praised. (Psalm 113:3 NIV)

♫ But God
Rich in mercy
You came to save me
Now I’m alive

My God
Strong and mighty
You reached down for me
So I could rise ♫

That’s the God I know. The God that saved me. The God that reached down for me. Now I’m “Alive”.

Do you know God ?  He knows you. He knew you before He created you. He loves you. He wants to be with you forever.

Not ready for God yet ?  That’s OK. He’ll wait for you. Don’t wait until it’s too late.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again in 2 weekends – 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

# 1 One Year Ago This Week:
“Freedom Hymn” – Austin French

# 1 Two Years Ago This Week:
“Even If” – MercyMe

Happy day after Easter my friends, and how fitting for a new # 1 smash on Resurrection Sunday with the title “Greatness Of Our God”. “Greatness” is a great word to describe our almighty God – the risen One.

In awesome wonder – He reigns forever.
We know – the greatness of our God.
His power is endless – He lives within us.
We know – the greatness of our God.

Newsboys will be hanging out here in South Florida this weekend with a couple of LIVE shows in West Palm Beach (Saturday) and Estero (Sunday). I saw them this past January in Tampa, last March in Fort Lauderdale, and a couple of Octobers ago in Estero. I’d see them for a 4TH time at either one of their shows this weekend, but I found out too late about these shows. I’m seeing MercyMe (supported by Crowder and Micah Tyler) and Hillsong United in a couple of weeks, so my upcoming road-trip vacation plans are already set.

Big Daddy Weave are at # 2 now with “Alive” – a song that I like to crank-up the volume of when K-LOVE plays it. It’s their follow-up to “Jesus I Believe” which peaked at # 3 on my chart 18 months ago.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. Enjoy this week my friends. I’m on Twitter @ChrisMDay, and I’m also the man behind the tweets for my church @LivingWatersHFL. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him. AMEN.
