Cochren & Co. are still at # 1 on my chart for a 3RD week in a row. Even more impressive is the fact that out of 118 charted songs since the resurrection of this chart in February of 2017 – “Church (Take Me Back)” is now ranked at # 5 overall during this era !

The local South Florida radio station that God used to rescue and save me nearly 13 years ago (next month) is getting ready to leave the terrestrial airwaves after 25 years. I’ve actually been listening to this radio station just a little bit in my car over the past few days, as K-LOVE has actually been mostly off-the-air here in South Florida due to maintenance and repair work on its 1,000-foot transmitter a few miles away from my home. My old radio station that I listened to faithfully for about 3½ years actually sounds more like it did from 2006 to 2009 than it did in 2010 when I drifted away from it. They even played several hits from the day. It was eerie hearing some of these hits from 10 to 13 years ago since I really haven’t tuned-in for over 9 years now. The station lost its way during the early-2010s, and they made promises to listeners they couldn’t keep. I stayed away from Christian radio for about 7 years – until I discovered K-LOVE 123 weeks ago.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1989

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 4TH Friday of the month, so I go back 30 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday July 02ND 1989:

Yesterday on my “Weekend Kickoff Mini-Thoughts” I revealed that exactly 33 years ago (today) in London England at Wembley Stadium this young and energetic 19-year-old teenybopper attended the first concert of my life – the final Wham! show. I was singing and dancing and sweating during that 8-hour extravaganza.

It was the first of over 100 concerts I’ve attended and enjoyed. (I can’t remember ever attending a concert that I did not enjoy.)

Well exactly 30 years ago this weekend on Friday June 30TH 1989 this young and energetic 22-year-old tweenybopper was at the old Miami Arena (not there anymore) for the “Club MTV On Tour” concert featuring The Information Society, Lisa Lisa And Cult Jam, Milli Vanilli (performing their # 1 smash at the time – as well as a few others), Tone Loc, Was (Not Was), and hosted by “Downtown” Julie Brown and the Club MTV Dancers.

According to my handwritten notes from the day it was a rainy and mild night in Miami. We arrived at 6:15 PM, and we left at 12 Midnight. The arena was about 55 to 60% full. (I can’t remember who “we” are. Who did I go with to this concert ?)

I did watch “Club MTV” occasionally in the afternoon after work. It was essentially a modern and hipper version of “American Bandstand” or “Solid Gold”. I danced along in my military dormitory room. (No video exists of this action.)

Weekend Kickoff Mini-Thoughts

Let’s try this again – a rapid-fire session of thoughts in my mind right this minute:

Yesterday was not such a good day at work.
It only takes one person and a minute to ruin a whole work day.
I know that today will be a much better work day.
I know that God is always in control no matter where I go.
Sometimes during those not so good work days I forget that God is with me.
The past 12 years of my 34-year USAF career have been the best 12 years.
Is it a coincidence that Jesus Christ rescued and saved me 13 years ago ?
No coincidence, as God doesn’t do coincidences. He does intentionals.
Back on the homefront I enjoy relaxing in my 77°F living room.
I’m feeling good with my air conditioning taking care of business.
All of my modern technology is right here where it belongs.
If it’s summer then I’m watching “America’s Got Talent” and “Big Brother”.
I’ve never missed a single episode of either show since the beginning of both.
I’m also addicted to “Live PD” on Friday and Saturday nights.
There was a political debate on the NBCs last night.
I don’t get political online or offline.
As an apolitical person I’m in the minority fringes both online and offline.
I have very solid political beliefs, but I choose not to share them with anyone.
I’d rather talk about the weather.
I’m a weather expert, so I know what I’m talking about there.
I’ll even talk sports with you. Hail to the Redskins !
I’m so looking forward to the start of the NFL season.
I may go to a game this season – my Redskins against the Cowboys in Dallas.
33 years ago tomorrow I attended the first concert of my life.
I was 19 at the time, and this young teenybopper was at the final Wham! show.
That was at Wembley Stadium in London England.
Google it. It was June 28TH 1986, and I was there singing and dancing.
I’ve been to 100+ concerts since that first one – an average of about 3 per year.
My two years of living in England as an 18 to 20-year-old were wild and crazy.
I haven’t been back since.
July starts in just 4 days.
2019 is almost half over.
This whole decade of the 2010s (or #TwentyTeens) is almost over.
Will we all see better in 2020 ?
Will we all have the vision to love each other in 2020 ?
Will we change the world in 2020 ?
Time keeps on slippin’ slippin’ slippin’ – into the future.

We are now 123 weeks into this 3RD era (I call it the K-LOVE era) of my personal hit music chart, and it’s the continuation of a hobby that began over 40 years ago when I – as a kid – listened to “American Top 40 With Casey Kasem” – and wrote down the songs as Casey counted them down from coast to coast.

I never imagined that a childhood hobby that became an adult hobby would eventually become part of my online ministry, but here we are.

This is the music that I enjoy listening to on the radio. I mostly listen to K-LOVE (over the airwaves), but every so often I listen to The Message on SiriusXM (online or via satellite). The Message tends to play newer music, as K-LOVE plays about 75% recurrent hits (of the past few years) and 25% current hits. K-LOVE actually reminds me a lot of a late-1970s / early-1980s Top 40 radio station – the type of radio station that inspired this hobby in the beginning.

If you’re not familiar with this music then Google or YouTube any song, and listen to it. Listen to the words. Hear God’s Good News for you. Open your heart. May it encourage you. May it inspire you. May it change your life forever. That’s what it did for me almost 13 years ago.
