Bedtime Stories

Greetings Friends & Bloggers. This is the Thursday night edition of ‘Bedtime Stories’.

I’ve just spent the past hour watching “Are You Smarter Than A 5TH Grader ?” on FOX-TV. Up next is another Prime Time favourite of mine – “Don’t Forget The Lyrics“. Tonight on ‘Lyrics’ it’s a special celebrity edition with Bret Michaels of Poison – one of the greatest hard rock and roll bands of my entire life. “Unskinny Bop” may just be the greatest song that was ever made. Don’t hate me.

I’ve also spent the past hour browsing away on iTunes. I picked out 7 current hit songs that I’ll be purchasing. The’re in my Shopping Cart right now. It’s great Christian Rock music from (in alphabetical order) – Demon Hunter, Emery, Manic Drive, P.O.D., Project 86, Seventh Day Slumber, and Wavorly.

And so that’s what I’m watching on TV and listening to on the radio and on my iPod Shuffle. And you also found out that I was once (in my previous life) a Poison groupie (circa the Summer Of 1990). You just never know what you could possibly find out about me here on this blog.

That’s my ‘Bedtime Stories’ for tonight. Don’t forget that the ‘Friday Night Blogroll Review’ will be in full effect tomorrow afternoon. Look for it sometime after 5 PM.

Good Night Everyone !  Good Night Christye !

My Favourite Commercial: Paradise By The GoPhone Light

This is the extended 1½-minute version of the traditional 30-second commercial that frequently airs on television. It stars rock and roll legend Meat Loaf as ‘Dad’, late-1980s pop diva Tiffany as ‘Mom’, and 16-year-old (at the time) actor-musician Adam Cagley as ‘Son’.

The Major’s Walk-A-Thon

Sky: Partly Cloudy
Temperature: 67°F
Relative Humidity: 80%
Winds: E 3 MPH
Barometric Pressure: 30.05 Rising

My thoughts:

1.  I ate a MASSIVE breakfast at the Cracker Barrel in Florida City this morning during the six-o-clock hour. A stack of warm and buttery French Toast was totally drenched in authentic maple syrup and accompanied with scrambled eggs with melted American cheese and hot smoked sausage. P.S. I weigh 165 pounds.  😉

2.  After the feast I came home to do the walk during the seven-o-clock hour. It was another record-tying 2.2-mile walk, and I did it in less than 41 minutes (compared with 42 minutes last Saturday morning). I guess I walked just a tad bit brisker this week than last week.

3.  During the first quarter of the walk I totally frightened a woman who was carelessly walking her dog. As I walked my continuous straight line along the left-edge of the street a lady walking her dog was approaching from the right-side of the street. She was crossing the street, but she wasn’t looking where she was going. She was looking in the completely opposite direction. Her dog was going nuts, but she was totally oblivious to it. I swerved around her so that she wouldn’t walk right into me, and as I walked behind her that’s when she noticed me. Pedestrians get killed by oncoming vehicular traffic when they pull stunts like that. Ironically, “Wake Up” from KJ52 and Toby Morrell was rockin’ my iPod Shuffle at the time.

4.  I may not have big muscles to show for it, but I am the most physically fit today than I have ever been in my entire life and Life. I am in far better shape today than I was during my late-teens and early-to-middle-20s when I had to run a mile-and-a-half every year in the Air Force.

5.  Tomorrow morning at Life Pointe Church I get my weekly workout from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM lifting, carrying, moving, and setting up objects in the main lobby of the movie theatre as we transform it into a setting that is suitable for our church family. I’ll be sweating again. It’s all good. It’s all for God.

The Major’s Walk-A-Thon

If it’s Saturday morning then it must be time for me to nourish and exercise my mind and body. And a-way we go !

1.  I ate a MASSIVE breakfast at the Cracker Barrel this morning during the six-o-clock hour. The place was nearly packed with Indy racers and race fans, Spring Breakers, and natives of Homestead and Florida City. I drowned my stack of french toast in an inch of maple syrup. Where’s my Lipitor ? !

2.  After the feast I did the walk, and it was the longest walk yet !  Google Earth estimated my walk at 1.98 miles. It was definitely between 1.9 and 2.0 miles, and I did it in less than 37 minutes on this clear, crisp, and cool 63°F morning. Pretty soon these walks will be coming to a gradual end for the hot and sticky Summer season.

3.  Inside Joke:  ‘Who’s that happy kid walkin’ ’round the neighbourhood ?  Who’s that happy kid walkin’ ’round the neighbourhood ?  It’s me !  It’s me !  It’s C.M.D. !’  That’s right – I’m that 41-year-old ‘happy kid’. Why am I so happy ?  Read on …

4.  Whenever I walk the walk I feel like I’ve taken back my neighbourhood. I’ve lived here for nearly 13 years, but I’ve only really lived here for the past 3 months. Before Christmas Eve 2007 the only walking I did was to and from the mailboxes and the dumpsters. From 1995 to 2007 I merely existed in this neighbourhood. Now I am fully alive. Taking back my neighbourhood from obscurity has been just like taking back my Life from the darkness. I’ve wrapped my arms around my entire neighbourhood just like I’ve embraced this new Life that God has given me.

5.  My fresh new 2GB iPod Shuffle came along for this morning’s walk for the first time ever. My original 1GB iPod Shuffle started off as a 50-50 mix of newer Christian rock, pop, and hip hop music and older Secular dance music from my ‘once-upon-a-time’ life. Now it’s more like 72.5% Christian / 27.5% Secular. This fresh new 2GB iPod Shuffle will be solely Christian music. Fun Fact:  I occasionally refer to Christian music as ‘Republican Rock’.
