David’s been solo over the past several years, and now he’s got a breakthrough hit at U.S. Christian Radio. Here’s the official music video for his uplifting #GoodLord:

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1992

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 3RD Friday of the month, so I go back 30 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday July 19TH 1992:

  1. “Restless Heart” – Peter Cetera
  2. “The One” – Elton John
  3. “Steel Bars” – Michael Bolton
  4. “Lift Me Up” – Howard Jones
  5. “Under The Bridge” – Red Hot Chili Peppers

Peter Cetera climbed to the top of my chart with what would be a long-running # 1 smash with “Restless Heart”. It was also a # 1 smash at U.S. Adult Contemporary Radio. But it underperformed at U.S. Mainstream Top 40 Radio.

Last #RetroFriday I teased that my # 1 smash in July 1992 was a song that I’ve performed lead vocals on more than any other – on #RockBand. I fell in love with its modern psychedelic sound, and I’ve been singing it for the past 30 years. That was certainly not Peter Cetera’s “Restless Heart”. It was actually Siouxsie And The Banshees “Kiss Them For Me” – which was actually # 1 on my chart during the 2 weeks prior to my chart above from exactly 30 years ago.

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 35 years ago to the end of July 1987. It’s when Shakin’ Stevens took an old Gary Glitter song and turned it into a HI-NRG # 1 smash on my chart (and Top 15 hit nationwide in the U.K.).

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !

My Top 10 Hits – Week 282

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from the previous week. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back nearly 45 years. Here’s this week’s chart – for the week ending Sunday July 10TH 2022 – the 282ND week of this current era that began on Presidents’ Day Weekend of 2017:

TW LW WKS SONG TITLE ARTIST / SITE
1 4 4 Getting Started
[1ST week @ # 1]
Jeremy Camp
2 1 10 Me On Your Mind Matthew West
3 3 7 Love Is Everything We Need Unspoken
4 2 22 Sunday Sermons Anne Wilson
5 5 4 Hold You Tight Dan Bremnes
6 8 24 See Me Through It Brandon Heath
7 9 24 Brighter Days Blessing Offor
8 6 16 Fill My Cup Andrew Ripp
9 1 The Goodness TobyMac Ft. Blessing Offor
10 10 3 Thank God For Sunday Morning Cochren & Co.

# 1 This Week In:
2021 – “Be Alright” – Evan Craft X Danny Gokey X Redimi2
2020 – “Keep Me In The Moment” – Jeremy Camp
2019 – “Church (Take Me Back)” – Cochren & Co.
2018 – “Do It Again” – Elevation Worship
2017 – “The Comeback” – Danny Gokey

NEW # 1 – This one surprised even me, and this is my own chart. After just 2 weeks at # 1 (as my 500TH # 1) Matthew West slips unexpectedly to # 2 with “Me On Your Mind”. Replacing Matthew is another one of my favorite singers – Jeremy Camp. His 7TH single since 2017 (8TH overall) is now his 4TH # 1 smash, as “Getting Started” ascends to the top. Released as a radio single in late-February it took a little while to become a hit. It’s his 2ND single from his 2021 album “When You Speak” which he wrote in 2020 during the onset and peak of the pandemic.

UNSPOKEN – Their 5TH single is a Top 3 hit, and I love its feel on the radio. I also love its lyrics – particularly these:

♫ The devil is crafty and we fall right into his trap
We might not be swinging our fists
But we’ll talk behind somebody’s back
How we gonna look like Jesus
When we’re only looking out for ourselves
Real love is giving our lives for somebody else ♫

That’ll preach, for “Love Is Everything We Need”.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1997

Hello again retro music fans. Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 2ND Friday of the month, so I go back 25 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday July 13TH 1997:

  1. “Barbie Girl” – Aqua
  2. “I’ll Be Missing You” – Puff Daddy & Faith Evans Ft. 112
  3. “Semi-Charmed Life” – Third Eye Blind
  4. “Call Me” – Le Click
  5. “ESPN Presents The Jock Jam” – Various Artists

Aqua – the dance band from Copenhagen Denmark that brought us “Barbie Girl” a quarter of a century ago – is still around and active. In fact they’ve been together (off-and-on) for some 33 years, and they are the biggest Danish band of all-time. They are currently on-tour performing their catalogue of hits (most of which are unknown here in the U.S.)

But “Barbie Girl” was quite MASSIVE. It shot straight-in to # 1 on my chart at the start of July of 1997, and it stayed there for the entire month. It was my # 23 hit of 1997.

Here’s its music video – with over a BILLION views on YouTube:

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 30 years ago to July 1992. It’s when the song that I’ve performed lead vocals on more than any other – on #RockBand – was at # 1 on my chart. I fell in love with its modern psychedelic sound, and I’ve been singing it for the past 30 years.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !
