The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2008

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference from either 10, 20, or 30 years ago (rotating each week). Here it is – for the week ending Sunday August 03RD 2008:

  1. “Goodnight Gravity” – Falling Up
  2. “Captives Come Home” – Run Kid Run
  3. “Out Of Control” – Capital Lights
  4. “Run” – Ever Stays Red
  5. “Closer Than We Think” – The Classic Crime

A full decade ago I was approaching the 2ND anniversary of the start of my salvation. This blog was very active back then. I actually blogged daily, and sometimes twice and even thrice daily. I created this blog to journal each new Glorious day on my fantastic journey.

Look at what I wrote on this exact day 10 years ago – following that morning’s Sunday service with my church family at the time:

“We act upon what is in our hearts, and our Lives are a direct result of the condition of our hearts. Poverty is fueled by our human mind. Jesus challenges the quality of our Life by what drives our heart, what fuels our mind, and what moves our soul. We live in freedom, but our minds are in poverty. Our goal is to be fully alive and aware that we are totally blessed through it all. The fate of the world and the people around us depends on the outcome of our funk, and that funk doesn’t define us. It actually refines us.”

I clearly wrote that based on notes I took during the Pastor’s message. I did good !

It’s halftime. I’ll be back on Sunday with a transcript of my entire Communion that I’m leading with, and then on Monday it’s my brand new Top 10 music chart. Enjoy your Saturday. Be safe. Have fun. Love all. Live life.

The Major’s Top 10 Hits – Week 76

Every Monday night I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday July 29TH 2018:

  1. “Dream Small” – Josh Wilson [# 2 last week / 9TH week on chart]
  2. “Grace Got You” – MercyMe [1 / 17TH]
  3. “Resurrection Power” – Chris Tomlin [5 / 25TH]
  4. “Do It Again” – Elevation Worship [3 / 13TH]
  5. “The Way (New Horizon)” – Pat Barrett [4 / 13TH]
  6. “The Breakup Song” – Francesca Battistelli [7 / 3RD]
  7. “Who You Say I Am” – Hillsong Worship [- / 1ST]
  8. “Living Hope” – Phil Wickham [8 / 4TH]
  9. “Wherever I Go” – Dan Bremnes [9 / 4TH]
  10. “Heaven On Earth” – Stars Go Dim [10 / 2ND]

Josh Wilson scores the 24TH # 1 smash of the past 76 weeks of my chart. It’s his follow-up to “That Was Then, This Is Now” from a few years ago that still receives significant radio airplay as a recurrent.

Initially a song by the name of “Dream Small” may seem counterproductive for an Evangelical Christian boldly living this fantastic journey that God has created, but then when you hear the words that Josh sings you realize that it’s the simple moments that can change the world when you just let Jesus use you where you are.

God will come to you right where you are. He chose you. Let Him in to your heart. Let Him show you His love, so that you can show that love to your neighbor – so that you can change the world.

This concludes my 4 blogs this weekend. I’ll be back next weekend with all-new blogs on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest. Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to win souls for Christ. Enjoy this week. May the LORD bless you and keep you.

The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1985

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference from either 10, 20, or 30 years ago (rotating each week).

But this week it’s a special. I’m going back 33 years to 1985. My chart didn’t exist yet, so here’s the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 – for the week ending Sunday July 28TH 1985:

  1. “Everytime You Go Away” – Paul Young
  2. “Shout” – Tears For Fears
  3. “You Give Good Love” – Whitney Houston
  4. “A View To A Kill” – Duran Duran
  5. “If You Love Somebody Set Them Free” – Sting

33 years ago this weekend was my final weekend of Basic Military Training (BMT) at Lackland AFB (San Antonio) Texas. Back then Air Force Basic Training was 30 weekdays (not including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays). On the 31ST weekday you were shipped out to either technical school at another base (unless your school was at Lackland), or to your first permanent duty station. My technical school was located at Chanute AFB (Rantoul) Illinois.

The 30TH and final weekday of Basic Training for me and my flightmates was on Friday July 26TH 1985. On Saturday and Sunday we were basically on hold for the weekend with not much to do (“liberty in place”) awaiting the 31ST weekday on Monday July 29TH 1985. Our Training Instructor (T.I.) came in on that Saturday morning and surprisingly started talking nice to us like regular people – unlike the previous 30 weekdays in which he yelled and screamed at us. He told us to enjoy the weekend, listen to the radio, and stay out of trouble until Monday morning. He then left us alone for the rest of the weekend.

So we listened to the T.I.’s radio all weekend – a Top 40 radio station in San Antonio, and we heard all of the greatest hits of the day. We even listened to “American Top 40 With Casey Kasem” on Sunday morning. Further down on the Billboard Hot 100 that weekend were these hits that we heard over and over again in heavy rotation:  “Raspberry Beret” – Prince And The Revolution (# 7), “Sussudio” – Phil Collins (# 13), “Freeway Of Love” – Aretha Franklin (# 19), and “Like A Surgeon” – “Weird Al” Yankovic (# 68).

Early on Monday morning we left the pop music behind, boarded busses, saw Lackland AFB behind us, and proceeded to the next chapter of our new military career.

It’s halftime. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with my remaining two blogs for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Make memories of a lifetime !

  10. “Heaven On Earth” – Stars Go Dim [- / 1ST]

It’s the 75TH edition of the 3RD life of my personal hit music chart, and it’s still going strong, and it’s still a lot of fun to compile and share each week.

Stars Go Dim debut at # 10 this week. Their 2016 U.S. # 1 smash “You Are Loved” is an awesome song that I hear almost daily on my orange iPod Shuffle at work. You may remember the recent ADT ad campaign on TV featuring the song. Here’s the official music video to remind you of just how much God loves you:
