January ended the way it began. And it began the way December ended. And December ended the way it began.

YEP – Cade Thompson is still at # 1 – for the 9TH week in a row – with one of my favorite songs in a long time. It’s a simple and catchy radio-friendly pop song, but it’s got powerful lyrics sung by a powerful voice that praises and worships God. He’s the God that’s working everything for the best of us. He’s the God that’s fighting and writing His love in our story – “Every Step Of The Way”.

Debut artist Jordan St. Cyr climbs up a couple of notches with his track “Fires”. It’s a song all about those fires along this journey. It’s not a perfect straight line believing and following and trusting Christ. It’s a long and winding road with sharp curves and deep pits of despair along the way. If we should so happen to drift off the journey our God will reach for us to pull us out of the mud and the mire. He’ll walk us through fires. He’ll pull us from flames. We must not be afraid.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1971

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 5TH Friday of the month, so it’s a special, as I go back 50 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday January 31ST 1971:

  1. “Knock Three Times” – Dawn
  2. “My Sweet Lord” – George Harrison
  3. “Lonely Days” – Bee Gees
  4. “One Less Bell To Answer” – The 5TH Dimension
  5. “Rose Garden” – Lynn Anderson

That’s obviously not my Top 5 chart from exactly 50 years ago. That’s the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 from back then. Casey Kasem counted down the hits from coast to coast on the new “American Top 40” weekly radio show, and he counted down those hits towards the end of his broadcast on that Sunday in 1971.

I was 3½-years-old back then. That was a year or two before I got my own radio to play with and listen to, but I do remember hearing all of those songs on the radio when they were hits. I lived with my Mom and Dad in a cozy apartment in Greenbelt Maryland at the time. They were in their mid-to-late-20s.

Next Friday on RETRO I’ll go back 15 years ago to February 2006.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

My Top 10 Hits – Week 206

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back 40+ years. Here it is – this week’s chart:

COUNTUP MINISTRIES WEEK ENDING SUNDAY JANUARY 24TH 2021
TW LW WKS SONG TITLE ARTIST / SITE
1 1 9 Every Step Of The Way Cade Thompson
2 2 16 Truth Be Told Matthew West
3 3 11 Out Of My Hands Jeremy Camp
4 4 9 Sparrows Cory Asbury
5 5 5 Another In The Fire Hillsong United
6 9 2 Say I Won’t MercyMe
7 7 22 Rise Up (Lazarus) Cain
8 8 11 Image Of God We Are Messengers
9 1 Less Like Me Zach Williams
10 1 Fires Jordan St. Cyr

# 1 This Week In:
2020 – “Rescue Story” – Zach Williams
2019 – “Nobody Loves Me Like You” – Chris Tomlin
2018 – “Gracefully Broken” – Matt Redman Ft. Tasha C. Leonard

Zach Williams is back with his 6TH hit on my chart with a radio-friendly track that just feels good. It’s got that trademark Zach Williams sound to it – with those powerful lyrics of salvation and moving closer to his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ:

♫ Oh – I have days I lose the fight
Try my best, but just don’t get it right
Where I talk a talk that I don’t walk
And miss the moments right before my eyes

Somebody with a hurt that I could have helped
Somebody with a hand that I could have held
When I just can’t see past myself
Oh Lord – help me be

A little more like mercy – a little more like grace
A little more like kindness, goodness, love, and faith
A little more like patience – a little more like peace
A little more like Jesus – a little less like me ♫

“Less Like Me” is Zach’s 3RD hit single from his late-2019 album “Rescue Story”. (The title-track was my # 1 smash exactly a year ago.)

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1986

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 4TH Friday of the month, so I go back 35 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday January 26TH 1986:

  1. “It’s Alright (Baby’s Coming Back)” – Eurythmics
  2. “Suspicious Minds” – Fine Young Cannibals
  3. “How Will I Know” – Whitney Houston
  4. “You Little Thief” – Feargal Sharkey
  5. “Wrap Her Up” – Elton John & George Michael

David A. Stewart had a very good week atop my pop chart exactly 35 years ago. He was one-half of Eurythmics (with Annie Lennox), and he also produced Feargal Sharkey’s hit.

Surprisingly “It’s Alright” flopped here in the U.S. (after 8 previous Top 40 hits). Check out its official music video below or here. It was quite unique and futuristic for 1985:

Oh man – that song – with its eerie sound and feeling – triggers vivid memories of that specific time-period in my mind. I remember buying an “International” (NTSC / PAL / SECAM) TV set at the Base Exchange (military department store) on base a few weeks earlier so that I could watch TV in my own dorm room. I soon realized that while it was convenient to do so I had abandoned my new friends in the “day room” (community recreation room). I felt lonely in my dorm room watching TV solo, so I went back to the day room to hang out with my friends there – even if I couldn’t watch what I wanted to watch. It was more important to be with others, laugh, eat, drink, and play Uno. Ah – the life and times of 18½-year-old me in the south of England.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !
