Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday April 23RD 2023, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord + Savior Jesus Christ. Let us love our neighbor as ourself.

I’ll be back with my church family in Homestead Florida this morning. I’ll be driving in from my new home 3½ hours away. You know I don’t really get excited about returning to Homestead anymore now that I’ve established a new homestead in Sebring Florida, but I do look forward to celebrating my Lord + Savior Jesus Christ with my church family in Homestead.

Last Sunday morning I was with my new church family here in Sebring where Pastor Ben preached on “Living As A Sacrifice” from Romans 12.

Back in Homestead – Pastor Bob preached 2 sermons – including 1 specifically for Facebook. On this edition of #SundayScripture I’m featuring my Pastor and his Facebook sermon.

(I tried to embed the Facebook Watch video here in this space, but I couldn’t get it to work, so here’s the link to it. It’s about 27 minutes. It’s pretty good. I hope that you’ll watch it from start to finish.)

If you wish to learn more about the God I know then stay tuned to #SundayScripture. The best is yet to come !

Thank you for reading my blog for this day, and may:

The LORD bless you, and keep you.
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1998

Hello again retro music fans. Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 20, 25, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 3RD Friday of the month, so I go back 25 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday April 26TH 1998:

  1. “Superhero (Lover)” – Daze
  2. “This Is How We Party” – S.O.A.P.
  3. “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” – Backstreet Boys
  4. “Amnesia” – Chumbawamba
  5. “Sex And Candy” – Marcy Playground

One of those songs up there is still one of my favorites to this day – a quarter-of-a-century later. In fact – it’s in heavy rotation on my iPod Shuffles that play at my desk at my longtime workplace. No – it’s not Backstreet Boys; although, that was a good jam in 1998 !

It’s Chumbawamba’s follow-up to “Tubthumping” – “Amnesia”. It was a hit at U.S. Top 40 radio for a few months, and it hit # 1 on my chart (falling to # 4 on this weekend 25 years ago). The song has political overtones. But I like its melody and its fast beat and especially its memorable chorus – “Do you suffer from long-term memory loss ? (I don’t remember.)”

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 35 years ago to the end of April 1988 and the start of May 1988. It’s when a lucky Aussie teen stormed the world with her debut smash.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !

Home Sweet Sebring

Welcome back to #TravelThursday. I’m waking-up in my new home in my new neighborhood in northwestern Highlands County Florida for the 6TH morning in a row. It’s the longest streak yet, and I’ll be waking-up here for 3 additional mornings before I head back down U.S. 27 and Krome Avenue to Homestead for a quick turnaround.

Now if you’ve been reading or watching the news lately then you may know about the gas crisis in nearly all of South Florida (from The Treasure Coast southward through The Florida Keys). There are long lines at gas stations that are actually open, and no activity at all at gas stations that are closed because they have no gas remaining. It’s all because of a freak 24-hour rain event in Fort Lauderdale last week where they received over 2 feet of rain – flooding much of the region – including the port where the gas comes in. Here in my new part of Florida there is no such crisis. No lines. No shortages. No closings.

I’m scheduled to return to Homestead this Sunday morning. I’ll celebrate Christ with my home church family, and then I’ll spend 4 nights in my longtime home before I return back north to Sebring. But I may reconsider that schedule if the gas crisis continues.

I can easily fill-up my car with gas here in this area, drive down there, and then return back here on that same tank of gas. I get up to 50 MPG on the open road with my Honda Civic, but why venture into chaos and rage ?

If I take that trip – my next trip back here to Sebring will be even longer than this one – 12 nights in a row. Going forth I’ll be spending about 70% of the rest of the year here in Sebring, and 30% in Homestead. (I have an Excel spreadsheet that tracks all of this.)

Yesterday morning I spent about 2½ hours with my new friends at the Sebring Historical Society (#SHS). We enjoyed coffee, pastries, conversation, and we had an informal meeting. This afternoon I’ll spend about 3½ hours with them as we enjoy our monthly spaghetti dinner (my first one). This Saturday afternoon we have our quarterly pot-luck luncheon and board meeting. I’ll be serving with the #SHS a lot going forth. I’ve been dreaming about this opportunity for a couple of years now, and I’ve been blogging about it since a couple of years ago. My retirement dreams are coming together !

It’s 4/20, and I’m not making this up. We have a big nearly mile-long manmade lake in my new neighborhood. Nearly all of the condos encircle the 10½-acre lake. Its name – Lake Mary Jane.

Next #TravelThursday we’re going to Venus. Let’s keep traveling together.

My Top 10 Hits – Week 322

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from the previous week. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back nearly 45 years. Here’s this week’s chart – for the week ending Sunday April 16TH 2023 – the 322ND week of this current era that began on Presidents’ Day Weekend of 2017:

TW LW WKS SONG TITLE ARTIST / SITE
1 1 13 The Lord’s Prayer (It’s Yours)
[8TH week @ # 1]
Matt Maher
2 4 11 I Believe It (The Life Of Jesus) Jon Reddick
3 3 18 My Story Your Glory Matthew West
4 2 20 I See Grace Micah Tyler
5 5 9 Running Home Cochren & Co.
6 6 7 This Is Our God Phil Wickham
7 7 3 Easy To Praise Patrick Mayberry
8 8 3 Fingerprints Dan Bremnes
9 1 Desert Road Casting Crowns
10 10 3 Cornerstone TobyMac Ft. Zach Williams

# 1 This Week In:
2022 – “See Me Through It” – Brandon Heath
2021 – “Good God Almighty” – Crowder
2020 – “Almost Home” – MercyMe
2019 – “Confidence” – Sanctus Real
2018 – “Freedom Hymn” – Austin French
2017 – “I Have This Hope” – Tenth Avenue North

CASTING CROWNS – My favorite band from McDonough Georgia are back on my chart after a nearly 2½-year hiatus – since “Start Right Here” towards the end of 2020. “Desert Road” is from their album “Healer”, and it’s their first song from that album to hit my chart. “Scars In Heaven” is also from that album, but it stalled just outside of my Top 10. “Crazy People” is a fun song from the album that received airplay on some Christian radio stations. They perform that song towards the end of all of their concerts, and it’s an audience favorite to get crazy with.

“Desert Road” has been playing at some Christian radio stations for almost a year now; although, it’s a recent add at #CountUp favorite K-LOVE. Every time I hear it – I like it more. When they performed it LIVE in concert this past Thursday night – I was singing along with them from 7 rows back.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again with the new weekend – and 4 new entries – known as #TravelThursday, #RetroFriday#SundayScripture, and #Top10Monday.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May our God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
