Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport

Welcome back to #TravelThursday after a week off last Thursday for Thanksgiving Day here in the U.S.A. I was in Wylie Texas (northeastern suburb of Dallas) for 8 days and 9 nights – visiting my family for our annual #ThanksChristmasGiving (combined Thanksgiving and Christmas) tradition.

I flew out of #SRQ – Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport – on the Wednesday before the week of Thanksgiving. It was a late-afternoon / early-evening flight on American Airlines, and everything went about as good as can be expected with it. The flight – the only one of the day between #SRQ and #DFW – was about 90% full. That was a little bit surprising. I wasn’t expecting it to be that full. It was equally as full on the return flight back to #SRQ on Black Friday afternoon (the day after Thanksgiving here in the U.S.A.). I’m not sure if this single flight per day (in each direction – originating from #DFW) is seasonal or year-round.

I had an aisle seat flying out of #SRQ and a window seat flying back in. I prefer a window seat so that I can watch the weather outside all the way up to cruising altitude. It was exciting to see a new landscape out my window as we made our descent into the region – particularly a clear view of the beautiful Tampa Bay area to the north.

My first impressions of #SRQ were great. There are no parking garages – just surface parking including long-term, short-term, and rental vehicles. They are all connected to each other in front of the only terminal, and that one terminal has just 13 gates. (A new terminal is currently under construction, and it will add a few additional gates.) It’s the 8TH-busiest airport in Florida, and it was easy-in and easy-out to and from the surrounding metro area. It’s about 79 miles away from my Sebring home in the center of the state – almost a straight-shot along mostly rural Florida State Road 64.

I don’t know when I’ll be flying again (perhaps next November), but it will be a pleasure to fly out of #SRQ.

Today – November 30TH – is the day exactly 36 years ago that I flew to Miami International Airport for the first time ever on my way to my new home at Homestead AFB. (I would arrive on-base after Midnight on December 01ST.) Next #TravelThursday – I’ll write about the start of my 37TH and final year in South Florida. Let’s keep traveling together.

My Top 10 Hits – Week 354

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from the previous week. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back over 45 years. Here’s this week’s chart – for the week ending Sunday November 26TH 2023 – the 354TH week of this current era that began on Presidents’ Day Weekend of 2017:

TW LW WKS SONG TITLE ARTIST / SITE
1 1 6 I Thank God
[4TH week @ # 1]
Housefires Ft. JWLKRS Worship
2 2 15 Hallelujah Feeling Caleb & John
3 3 19 Praise You Anywhere Brandon Lake
4 4 16 Praise The Lord Micah Tyler
5 5 13 Parking Lot Cochren & Co.
6 6 5 Any More Cain
7 7 3 I Believe Phil Wickham
8 8 21 To Not Worship You MercyMe
9 9 8 Firm Foundation (He Won’t) Cody Carnes
10 10 5 Faithfully TobyMac

# 1 This Week In:
2022 – “Ain’t Nobody” – Cody Carnes
2021 – “On Our Way” – MercyMe Ft. Sam Wesley
2020 – “Jericho” – Andrew Ripp
2019 – “Dead Man Walking” – Jeremy Camp
2018 – “Even Then” – Micah Tyler
2017 – “Different” – Micah Tyler

NO CHANGE (REPEAT) – For the 2ND week in a row all of the songs hold steady at their respective chart positions. I listened to none of these songs – and very little Christian music overall – while I was away on vacation in North Texas. I mostly listened to secular music from the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, ’00s, ’10s, and ’20s – and a whole lot of Taylor Swift (courtesy of my nieces – ages 13½ and 10½). And then of course since Thanksgiving Day many Christian stations (particularly K-LOVE) have been stunting with Christmas music. The hits return today, so next Monday I hope to present a Top 10 chart with much more activity – and hopefully a few new entries.

SPOTIFY – I learned a lot about this music streaming service from my brother last week, and now I have gift cards for it. I plan to create a public playlist for my Top 10 each week. I just need to figure out how it all works. (The first thing that I need to do is to create an account on the service. I’ll do that soon. I hear that Premium Individual is the way to go.)

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again with the new weekend – and 3 new entries – known as #TravelThursday, #SundayScripture, and #MusicMonday.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on X and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May our God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday November 26TH 2023, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord + Savior Jesus Christ. Let us love our neighbor as ourself.

It’s been a whirlwind of travel for me over the past dozen days. I’ll share the highlights of it all later this week on #TravelThursday. But on this Sunday morning I’m driving southward along my favorite U.S. Highway 27 from Sebring Florida to Homestead Florida – returning for the first time since I left 19 days ago.

This morning I’ll be leading my longtime church family in Praise & Worship with 3 songs from Casting Crowns, Caleb & John, and for King + Country. I’ll then be preaching from the first 11 verses of Jude’s letter near the end of the New Testament. Post-service we’ll enjoy fellowship at a local area restaurant – probably one where they serve steak and potatoes.

Here’s a short passage from my sermon this morning:

Our Pastor talks about hell and Satan. Many Pastors don’t like to preach about hell in their sermons. They don’t want to talk about the angry side of God – and the eternal fire of His judgment. I just did. We must preach the Word. We must preach the whole Word – from Genesis to Revelation – and everything in-between. I believe that the entire Bible is truth – God’s Truth – and it does not change with the times. He is the Way. He is the Truth. He is the Life – then, now, and forever and ever. Amen.

(That’s part of a larger part of my sermon where I preach about sin and a fire and brimstone future in hell from God’s judgment.)

So I want to remind you – though you already know these things – that Jesus first rescued the nation of Israel from Egypt, but later He destroyed those who did not remain faithful. And I remind you of the angels who did not stay within the limits of authority God gave them but left the place where they belonged. God has kept them securely chained in prisons of darkness – waiting for the great day of judgment. (Jude 1:5-6 NLT)

My testimony is featured here each week on #SundayScripture whether it’s part of a sermon, or just me writing about the events of the past week. Hopefully it encourages you and inspires you to seek the Lord, and get closer to Him with each new day.

If you wish to learn more about the God I know then stay tuned to #SundayScripture. The best is yet to come !

Thank you for reading my blog for this day, and may:

The LORD bless you, and keep you.
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.
