NEW # 1 – Singer-Songwriter Blessing Offor scores a # 1 smash on my chart with his debut song – “Brighter Days”. He’s got a positive ballad with powerful lyrics that’s breaking-out all across U.S. Christian radio as one of the top songs of the week for most increased plays.

♫ I know there’s gonna be some brighter days
I swear that love will find you in your pain
I feel it in me like the beating of life in my veins
I know there’s gonna be some brighter days
I know there’s gonna be some brighter days ♫

Blessing appeared on “Platinum Hit” in 2011- a short-lived music competition series on Bravo (an NBC cable network). He was also part of Season 7 (2014) of “The Voice” on NBC. Blessing is friends with Chris Tomlin, and they have recorded music together. He is on his imprint record label in partnership with Capitol Christian Music Group.

Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday March 13TH 2022, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

I am back from vacation, and I’m blogging about it every #TravelThursday. I published Part 1 of my 4-part series on this most recent vacation 3 days ago. Part 2 is in 4 days.

I’ll blog a little bit about it here. Last Sunday morning I attended a large church up in Broward County Florida in Cooper City – Potential Church. I’ve been to this church a handful of times over the past decade or more. They have a nice fancy main campus there with lots of modern electronic equipment and cameras. The bells and whistles and gadgets are in abundance. They actually record a portion of their service for broadcast every Sunday morning on our local NBC affiliate here in South Florida.

The Pastor is Troy Gramling, and he and his wife lead a large team of Pastors, Directors, and Staff at Potential. Pastor Troy relies on a lot of bright backgrounds and huge displays and quirky visual aids and extended presentations during his message, and it can be a bit off-putting if you aren’t expecting it. (It’s also what a lot of young churchgoers are interested in seeing and experiencing.)

But Pastor Troy also delivers very strong Bible-based messages. Last Sunday morning he preached on servanthood, and I think he actually utilized more Scripture from the Old Testament than the New Testament. It was very refreshing to see him in action preaching a solid sermon to his congregation from both the Old and the New.

His message on servanthood led into his push for more of his congregation to get involved in serving one another and others – whether it be right there at Potential – or out in the local community. It takes a lot of people to create an experience or a product or a service, but one person can make a huge difference – and change a life forever.

If you wish to learn more about the God I know then stay tuned to #SundayScripture. The best is yet to come !

Thank you for reading my blog for this day, and may:

The LORD bless you, and keep you.
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1997

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 2ND Friday of the month, so I go back 25 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday March 09TH 1997:

  1. “I Want You” – Savage Garden
  2. “Call Me” – Le Click
  3. “I Like It Like That” – The Blackout Allstars
  4. “Wannabe” – The Spice Girls
  5. “Please Don’t Go” – No Mercy

Good solid chart from 25 years ago. I still like all of those songs today. Well actually I had to go on YouTube to actually hear “Please Don’t Go” from No Mercy because the only “Please Don’t Go” song that I remembered was the 1992 dance cover version from KWS of the original 1979 K.C. And The Sunshine Band ballad.

“Wannabe” was sitting at # 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Savage Garden (Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones) scored a # 1 smash with their very first single (“I Want You”), and this was its 3RD week atop my chart (out of 4). They would follow it up with 5 more hits after that through 2000. They broke-up in 2001. As far as I know Darren and Daniel have never performed together since. Their career as a duo was short-lived, but there were several memorable songs during the era including two of the most successful hits ever at U.S. Hot Adult Contemporary radio – “Truly Madly Deeply” and “I Knew I Loved You”. Both of those hits enjoyed unusually long 2½-year runs in heavy and active rotation at pop radio.

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 30 years ago to March 1992. It’s when a legendary country singer was sitting at # 1 on my pop chart.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !

My Spring Break Vacation 2022

And I am back from another fun-filled vacation. This was a 6-day / 626-mile adventure right here in South Florida – oh – and also up in Central Florida. More on that part of the trek in a few weeks. This will be the start of a 4-week series here on #TravelThursday, so let’s begin about an hour before sunrise on Thursday March 03RD 2022 (last Thursday).

That’s when I placed my travel bags in the trunk of my car – and I went to work – as in my workplace. WHAT ?

That was my plan. My 6-day vacation would start at my workplace – where I worked for almost 6 hours in the morning. And then I declared the official commencement of SPRING BREAK 2022 !

I proceeded northward to Broward County (the neighboring county north of Miami-Dade County). My first stop was at a popular outdoor shopping center in Pembroke Pines. I ate at a place called “The Pub“. It’s a British pub (or tavern). They’ve won awards for having the best fish and chips in the U.S., so naturally I had to experience it for myself. I had the “wee” size (for Lunch). It was good. It wasn’t the best ever. The best ever was actually over in Britain when I lived there 35+ years ago. I spent a lot of time in British pubs back then, and I enjoyed some great food in those pubs. One thing that The Pub had going for it is that it actually smelled like a British pub. That aroma (both positive and negative) that I remembered from all those years ago was right there.

After I walked around the shopping center for a little while I drove over to my hotel (also in Pembroke Pines). It would be my home for the next 4 nights.

That night I drove almost 20 miles into Fort Lauderdale for the first time since the Summer of 2019. I saw The Beach Boys LIVE in concert at Broward Center For The Performing Arts. Nowadays they are fronted by co-founder Mike Love and Bruce Johnston. Mike’s been a Beach Boy for the past 61 years, and Bruce for the past 57 years. Mike is 81 (next week), and Bruce will be 80 later this year. Mike and Bruce and the touring band look and sound great together. They plowed through no less than 35 of their hits over the years from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. They were on stage for more than 2 hours combined (before and after about a 20-minute intermission).

I was singing and swaying along to the music from start to finish. It was cool to see all age groups represented at the concert. Of course most of their fans are in their 60s, 70s, and 80s, and they were well attended that night, but there were also kids, teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s there too – enjoying a night of classic surf pop and rock. It was a fun, fun, fun night with so many good vibrations. I can’t wait to do it again. It was actually my 2ND Beach Boys concert. (My first was near Fort Lauderdale at the Hard Rock 6 years ago.)

Now I need to buy some Beach Boys singles on iTunes. I can’t seem to get “Help Me Rhonda” out of my heart (and mind).

Next #TravelThursday I’ll share Days 2 and 3 of my Spring Break Vacation 2022. I’ll tell you all about my morning at one of Broward County’s top tourist attractions that’s not the beach or a shopping mall. I’ll also tell you all about my 2ND concert in as many nights featuring one of the biggest-selling trios of all-time – sort of.
