My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2006

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 1ST Friday of the month, so I go back 15 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday September 03RD 2006:

  1. “SexyBack” – Justin Timberlake Ft. Timbaland
  2. “Ain’t No Other Man” – Christina Aguilera
  3. “Crazy” – Gnarls Barkley
  4. “Desensitized” – Jonah33
  5. “Far Away” – Nickelback

Introducing my first Top 5 Christian hit post-salvation – the hard-rockin’ “Desensitized” by Jonah33. It’s one of the first distinct songs that I remember hearing on the radio for the first time after Christ rescued and saved me during the 3RD week of August of 2006.

The song inspired me to look-up the word “Desensitized”, and do research on it, and discern what it means in relation to me believing and following God. It led me to God’s Word. It led me to Scripture online.

Jonah33 was formed in 2001 in Fayetteville Arkansas – home of the University Of Arkansas Razorbacks. They were active for 7 years, and this was their biggest hit at Christian Top 40 radio.

♫ I’m growing numb !
But what is wrong, and what is right
When did I start to lose this fight ?
Somehow I lost track of who you are
I’m so amazed at what sin’s become
I’m so ashamed that I’ve grown so numb
Somehow I became desensitized
I don’t want to be desensitized ♫

Next Friday on RETRO I’ll go back 25 years ago to September 1996.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

Kansas

#TravelThursday continues, and in this edition we visit Kansas. But before we get there let me share this map of the 50 United States. All of the states that I’ve visited are colored green. That includes states that I’ve lived in, spent quality time in, visited, or simply drove through. It does not include states where I stayed inside an airport on a layover and never ventured outside. (I see you California.)

Visited States In Green

By the way you can create your own such map at amcharts.com/visited_states. You can share the final product on social media or download it. I tried to incorporate it into this blog post via the HTML coding, but it appeared to be non-compatible with this blog, so I simply downloaded it and then uploaded it on here.

So you can see that there are 21 states that I have not yet visited – or 42% of them. One of my goals – post-retirement in a few years – is to visit all of the rest of them.

In November of 2013 when I drove 1,003 miles from west of Wichita Falls Texas to north of Cincinnati Ohio I came within about a tenth of a mile of the Kansas state line while driving on I-44 from Oklahoma into Missouri. That’s right – I-44 misses the southeastern corner of Kansas by about 550 feet.

I actually don’t know anyone who lives in Kansas. I don’t know much about Kansas other than the cities of Wichita and Topeka and of course the western portion of the Kansas City metro area. #GoChiefs

I know that there are lots of interesting places to visit in Kansas. I favor museums and parks, so I’ll be researching those and planning a future visit to “The Sunflower State”. I have family living in North Texas, so Kansas is just a little over 250 miles away. A Spring, Summer, or Autumn visit to Kansas sounds good. (I know how cold it can get in Kansas in the wintertime.)

Kansas – particularly the Kansas City area – is known for its slow-smoked barbecue. I’m a fan of it. Actually I’m a fan of any type of barbecue. I pretty much enjoy eating assorted meats cooked well-done on a grill. I could make myself at home at many Kansas BBQs and steakhouses.

Join me next #TravelThursday as we visit another location on the face of this earth.

They keep you safe on your way, and your feet will not stumble. You can go to bed without fear. You will lie down and sleep soundly. You need not be afraid of sudden disaster or the destruction that comes upon the wicked, for the LORD is your security. He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap. (Proverbs 3:23-26 NLT)

Autumn Season Premiere

Happy September my friends. It’s Wednesday September 01ST 2021, and with this special midweek edition I begin an all-new season of blog posts.

Normally I don’t post on Wednesdays, and I probably won’t do so again until my Winter Season Premiere on Wednesday December 01ST 2021.

I publish new blog posts 4 times per week on Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays at 3 AM U.S. East Coast time. Each day has its own unique theme. My Thursday posts are travel-related. My Friday posts are retro music-related. My Sunday posts are Scripture-related. My Monday posts are current music-related. So my hashtags are #TravelThursday, #RetroFriday, #SundayScripture, and #Top10Monday.

I publish occasional special posts on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but not too often.

If you’re new to my blog then I welcome you. Thank You for checking it out. You may have clicked on my link on Facebook, Twitter, or Flickr. Perhaps Google or Feedspot sent you here awhile back, and you’ve been coming back on a regular basis. Maybe you only read my posts on #TravelThursday, or you’re only interested in my messages on Sundays. Either way I’m glad you’re here. This is a no-judgement zone. This is also a politics-free space online. There’s plenty of judgement and politics elsewhere.

Feel free to comment on any post. You can also reach me on Twitter @ChrisMDay. Some of you have your own blogs that I check out on a regular basis. Keep doing what you do. Keep blogging alive !

I’ve been blogging since 2007, and really I was blogging for 14 years before that via my own dial-in bulletin board system (BBS) and its spinoff on the early World Wide Web of the late-1990s into the early-2000s. It’s my favorite hobby online. But I can get too much of a good thing; hence, the typical 4-post-per-week schedule.

#TravelThursday will be posted tomorrow at 3 AM. Last week I traveled within my own hometown here in South Florida. Tomorrow I’ll check-out a stateside location that’s about 1,500 miles away.

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from the previous week. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back 40+ years. Here’s this week’s chart:

NEW # 1 – Josh Baldwin’s 4TH hit becomes his 1ST # 1 smash on my chart, as the catchy “Into The Wild” ascends to # 1 in its 7TH week. He previously charted with “Stand In Your Love” (# 5 in 2018), “Let The Redeemed” (# 10 in 2020), and “Evidence” (# 8 in 2020). When I first heard this song during the first-half of July I instantly liked it, and I began singing along to it after just a few listens.

BACK @ # 9 – Ryan Stevenson is back with his 7TH hit that re-enters my chart after falling-off 4 weeks ago. He’s a featured artist with a prominent role on Apollo LTD’s hit “Sunday Morning Feeling”. Here’s the official lyric video that should get you up and dancing:

This blog is # 34 worldwide on the Top 80 Christian Music Blogs and Websites in 2021 chart. Thank You for including us Feedspot !

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – with 5 new entries on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
