Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday January 05TH 2025, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord + Savior Jesus Christ. Let us love our neighbor as ourself.

It’s my first #SundayScripture of 2025. Thank You for checking-in today. Thank You for supporting my ministry.

The old – 2024 – has passed on. It’s behind us. We can’t do anything about it. What’s said is said. What’s done is done. But behold – the new creation – 2025 – has come. The Lord said, “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold – I am doing a new thing.” Our God said, “I am making all things new.”

2024 was a great and life-changing year for me. I retired after a nearly 39-year military and civilian career with the USAF. I immersed myself into the new full-time retirement part of my life. I became mentally, physically, and socially active at home, museum, and church – engaging in new duties, responsibilities, and relationships at each. YES – 2024 was the greatest year of my life, but I know that God will lead me to an even greater 2025, as I continue to move closer to Him – led by his guidance, direction, and wisdom. I pray that 2025 is a greater year for you as well. God has great plans for you and I !

My testimony is featured each week here on #SundayScripture – whether it’s part of a sermon, a testimony, or just me writing about the events of the past week. Hopefully it encourages you and inspires you to seek the Lord – and get closer to Him with each new day.

If you wish to learn more about the God I know – then stay tuned to #SundayScripture. The best is yet to come !

Thank you for reading my blog for this day, and may:

The LORD bless you, and keep you.
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

Driving In 2024

Welcome back to #TravelThursday, and the first edition of 2025, and my first blog post of 2025. I posted on 173 days in 2024. That’s every Thursday, Sunday, and Monday in 2024 as well as 16 special posts on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. I’ll do it again in 2025 – starting with this one.

Less travel is my theme (and goal) for 2025. That’s less road-trips to and from Homestead Florida. That’s no retirement road-trip like last year. Just a low-key year, as I enter my 3RD year here in my dream home in my dream neighborhood in my dream part of Florida – and 2ND year of retirement. The priority this year is neighborhood, museum, and church, and my duties, responsibilities, and relationships at each.

I drove 11,954 miles in 2024. That’s up from 11,721 miles in 2023. That’s the most number of miles driven since 2004. I exceeded 1,000 miles in a month just twice, but one of those months was April – when I drove 3,290 miles. That included 2,807 miles to and from North Texas during the first 18 days of April. From May to December my monthly average was 784 miles.

I’ll likely have no 1,000-mile months in 2025, and I’m projecting about 9,000 miles total for the year. I do plan a few road-trips to and from South Florida and Southwest Florida, but I’d like to explore more of the Heartland of Florida. That’s the name given to the rural inland region in and around my dream part of Florida.

Next #TravelThursday – I’ll write about my first such local exploration. It’s a fun New Year’s Day morning and hike through the ancient scrub out at Archbold Biological Station in southern Highlands County Florida. Let’s keep traveling together.

2021 – “Fires” – Jordan St. Cyr
2020 – “Almost Home” – MercyMe
2019
– “Nobody (But Jesus)” – Casting Crowns Ft. Matthew West
2018
– “Do It Again” – Elevation Worship
2017
– “Broken Things” – Matthew West

PATRICK MAYBERRY – The 3RD time was a charm for the man from Tennessee. His “Holy Spirit Come” was a # 2 hit in 2022. He followed that up with “Easy To Praise” – a # 6 hit in 2023. And then came “Lead On Good Shepherd”. It languished at the bottom of my chart for 5 weeks before breaking through. It eventually spent 22 weeks in a row in my Top 5, 16 weeks in a row in my Top 3, 12 weeks at # 2, and 2 weeks at # 1. It’s my # 2 hit of this current era of the past 411 weeks.

CALEB & JOHN – Their debut smash was certainly that, as “Hallelujah Feeling” became my # 1 smash overall of this current era of the past 411 weeks. It also finished as my # 19 hit of 2024. It was also my # 5 hit of 2023, as it straddled both years. And then they followed that up with “Somebody Like Me” – which spent 26 weeks on my chart. It’s my # 6 hit overall of this current era, and it’s my # 2 hit of 2024. It was also my # 1 smash of the Summer Of 2024.

REPEATING ARTISTS – Caleb & John, Brandon Lake, Phil Wickham, for King + Country, Housefires Ft. JWLKRS Worship, and TobyMac are the 6 artists / collaborations who were also on My Top 23 Of 2023 chart a year ago. My # 1 artist of this current era – Matthew West – ended a 7-year streak on my year-end chart (from 2017 to 2023). His only song this year – “Don’t Stop Praying” – while it was a big hit nationwide – stalled at # 8 on my chart.

CONCLUSION – My Top 24 Of 2024 chart was compiled by awarding 10 points for each week at # 1, 9 points for # 2, and so forth and so on down to 1 point for # 10. The points were then added, and the hits were ranked. 58 songs charted in 2024. There were 14 # 1 hits, and they all made it onto my chart above. 5 hits peaked at # 2 (including a # 1 smash from 2023), and they all made it onto my chart above. It was a great year for positive and encouraging music on the radio that told the story of God and gave Him all of the glory. What a great chart to represent His music. Let’s continue to praise and worship Him as we go forth into 2025.

SPOTIFY – You can hear “My Top 24 Of 2024” anytime by accessing my playlist on Spotify. All 24 hits are there from top to bottom. You can hear them in order from # 1 to # 24, or you can shuffle them. You can link to it here. It’s 1 hour and 22 minutes of the greatest hits of 2024 !
