Blatant Promotion

TOMORROW on the big green blog that recycles it’s the best of the best in blogging action from this past week via the ‘Friday Night Blogroll Review’. Then on Saturday morning ‘The Major’s Walk-A-Thon’ returns to the neighbourhood for what could be an uncomfortably warm and sweaty walk.

Before the great chill arrives early this Sunday morning it could get rather toasty here in Homestead with overnight lows only in the mid-70s and daytime highs approaching the upper-80s !  Then get ready for more normal weather for mid-November in Homestead as mid-afternoon temperatures peak in the mid-70s and early-morning temperatures dip down into the cool and refreshing 50s !  The cooler and more normal weather should stick around for awhile too.

OK back to the blog. I’ll be serving up your ‘Saturday Night Retro’ in less than 48 hours, and I’m gonna share with you a final good-bye to an entire nation from exactly 21 years ago this weekend in 1987.

I’ve got all of that and a whole lot more for you during this upcoming weekend, so stick around my friends. You won’t regret it pal.

Until I come back on here with the ‘Blogroll Review’ enjoy this classic picture of my childhood cat Fluffy. Me and my brother found the Fluffmeister back in December 1983 when I was 16 and my brother was 8. This picture is from the late-1990s, and an aging Fluffy is sitting on the living room couch reading the local newspapers and watching her favourite television shows.

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

1.  It’s Veterans Day all across the great United States Of America, and it’s the Federal Holiday each year that means the most to me personally. I stopped everything that I was doing at exactly 11:11 AM this morning. I checked out the big three cable news networks – Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC – and not a single one of them had LIVE coverage of any Veterans Day ceremony anywhere. What a shame.

2.  On both Saturday and Sunday I drove more than 80 miles each day. That’s about 4 times my daily average. It was an exhausting first-half of my long holiday weekend, and a more peaceful and quiet second-half (yesterday and today). I actually felt a real subtle hint of a possible 8TH cold in 12 months coming on this morning. I took an extra 500 MG Vitamin C tablet to fight this fight because I don’t have time for another cold this week – or next week.

3.  This morning I went to Publix – where shopping is a pleasure – about 10 minutes after they opened for business shortly after 7 AM. I did my grocery shopping for the next couple of weeks. After that I went to McDonald’s to pick-up breakfast. You get faster service when you actually get out of your car, walk in to the joint, and order the food face-to-face to an actual human being (rather than a drive-thru speaker).

4.  I did a little mini ‘The Major’s Walk-A-Thon’ this morning. I walked to and from the clubhouse near the main entrance of my neighbourhood. That’s a little more than a half-a-mile round-trip. I had to do my annual vehicle registration there. Prior to last year a lazy me would have driven it. Nowadays I see a mile or two and think ‘Walk-A-Thon’. I saw a new cat during this mini walk. The feline looked at me from afar and sighed to himself or herself, ‘Friend – Not Foe’.

5.  Ford Championship Weekend is just two days away at our Homestead-Miami Speedway, so you just know what that means – tens of thousands of out-of-town tourists and NASCAR fans galore descending on our home turf spending their hard-earned money in our stores and restaurants. Show them respect. Be nice to them. Welcome them to our fine city. Invite them back for more fun.

The Major’s Walk-A-Thon

It’s the 2ND Season Premiere of your favourite Saturday morning series on the blogosphere !

1.  This morning at almost precisely 6 AM I awoke and I declared ‘I Want To Go To Denny’s !’ – and so I did a half an hour later. I enjoyed the Moons Over My Hammy®. Dude – It’s a ham and scrambled egg sandwich with Swiss and American cheese on grilled sourdough. It’s outrageous. SHYEAHZZZ !

2.  Once I got back home at 7:30 AM I decided that it would be the perfect time to kick-off ‘The Major’s Walk-A-Thon’ after a 6-month hiatus. The last time I walked around my neighbourhood of the past 13½-years was back on Saturday May 03RD 2008. Check out what I had to say back then.

Sky: Mostly Cloudy
Temperature: 69°F
Dewpoint: 64°F
Relative Humidity: 83%
Winds: ENE 7 MPH
Barometric Pressure: 30.17 Rising

3.  I’ve been waiting for weather like this since last April. It’s been a long hot Summer – a long hot Summer of not walking. Then again I’ve always wondered how much walking I actually do in a typical day during my Monday to Friday job at the air base. This morning I walked about 2 miles for 36 minutes and 35 seconds. I could’ve ended the walk shorter and earlier than that, but I was just having so much fun walking the walk while listening to my def tunes via my iPod Shuffle. I decided to keep on walking until I could actually feel a hint of mild pain in my legs. No Pain – No Gain !

4.  Cats adore me. One gray and white cat saw me and thought to himself – ‘He’s a friend of felines. I can walk right beside him with no fears and he won’t bother me.’ And so he did. That was on the south side of the MASSIVE lake that’s located within my neighbourhood. Later in the walk on the north side of the MASSIVE lake the cat greeted me again. He took the shortcut right alongside the lake. I took the scenic route following the roads.

5.  For the first time in ‘The Major’s Walk-A-Thon’ history I touched all of the roads. I walked them all – even the cul-de-sacs. This weekly walk is symbolic of my spiritual walk with my closest friends who are on this fantastic journey alongside me as we all follow and love Jesus Christ. I constantly thank my Lord and Saviour for giving me a second chance – a second Life to get it right this time. I shall continue to face toward and proceed into the daylight.
