Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

Here’s what’s on my mind on this Tuesday night:

1.  I just returned home from Publix at the Oasis Plaza in Homestead. It’s where shopping is a pleasure. It would have been more of a pleasure if there were less people there. That joint was jumpin’. There is no recession in effect at Publix.

2.  Traffic in and around Homestead has been extra nightmarish lately with all of the tourists mixing in with all of the snowbirds from Quebec mixing in with us natives of the land. I’ve been averaging at least a couple of near-death experiences on the roads per each mile traveled.

3.  I just turned on the A.C. in my home for the first time in two weeks. It was approaching the 80°F mark in my living room. Our next frigid outbreak is still on track to arrive during the day on Friday. On Saturday we may actually struggle to reach 60°F all day long !  Are you paying attention Kelly J. ?

4.  The hot new Burger King on Speedway Boulevard just north of Biscayne Drive (in front of the Home Depot) is now open for business – and half of the base clogged up their parking lot – and their arteries !  That’s 4 Burger Kings around Homestead – but not in Homestead.

5.  There’s a really cool video on You Tube of a dude who is a passenger of a vehicle that’s driving all around the Homestead Air Force Base that once existed in 1989. He’s using his camcorder to record the drive all throughout our absolutely gorgeous and totally vibrant base at the time. He probably sent it home for his family to watch way back then. The video brought tears to my ears. Our current Air Reserve Base is merely a shell of what it once was, but I must admit that we have made substantial progress since Hurricane Andrew destroyed everything that we had nearly 17 years ago.

Thank You for sharing your time with me by reading these thoughts o’ mine.

Bedtime Stories

OK this one is for Ela O., but then again pretty much all of these ‘Bedtime Stories’ are for Ela because this is her obvious favourite occasional series on here. She’d probably prefer to have this as a nightly feature, but I’d rather have her always wanting more.

We talked on the telephone a few nights ago – mostly about one of our favourite passions in the entire universe – food. We both agreed that we can’t wait for Olive Garden to finally open up at the Homestead Pavilion. It’s currently under construction, and it should be open for business before the Summer starts. I’ll be hangin’ out there once or twice a week. I’ll save some room for anyone who wishes to join me – because when you’re there, you’re family.

Buffalo Wild Wings is making its long-awaited South Florida debut. The’re hiring at least 100 people to work their hip new joint at the Southland Mall in Cutler Bay. They’ll be open for business in just a couple of months, and it’ll give me a reasonable excuse to visit the Southland Mall at least once every couple of weeks or so. I love that place. I discovered it during my former regular visits to the Orlando area prior to the start of 2007.

Ela asked if I was planning to walk anywhere special tomorrow morning. I actually plan to sleep in. I may even be a rebel without a clue and stay in bed until perhaps 7:30 AM. That would be like so totally radical dude !  Then again if that doesn’t happen, and I bolt out of bed at 5:55 AM wide awake and ready to start my day then I guess that I’ll do a 2.2-mile ‘Walk-A-Thon’ around my neighbourhood. Of course I’ll blog about it right here on the big green blog.

Well I think that just about covers everything. I’m getting ready for “Howie Do It” on NBC-TV. I like that show. I like Howie. I’ve been a fan for over 25 years. He’s cool like that. He’s in ‘The Major’s Comedy Hall-Of-Fame’.

OK Ela (and everyone else reading this). Take it easy, and I’ll check you out in the morning. Thank You for supporting this blog !

Thursday Night Mini Thoughts

– This should not be confused with the ‘Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts’.
– These are ‘Mini Thoughts’ in 15 words or less.
– It’s like a spinoff of the wildly popular flagship Tuesday night series.
– Now that I’ve got that out of the way it’s on to business:
– It was about 61°F in my home when I awoke this morning.
– That was more than 20°F less cold than it was outside at the time.
– It was also about 13°F below normal.
– The normal temperature at night while I sleep is 74°F.
– I can’t control it when it’s unusually frigid outside.
– When I returned home from work it was just below 67°F inside.
– That’s about 8°F below normal.
– I received word late yesterday that my Nutter Butter cookies are safe to eat.
They are not affected by the MASSIVE Peanut Butter recall.
– That’s awesome because I have 11 packs of 4 cookies in my fridge.
– Nutter Butters are my favourite cookies in the entire universe !
– I enjoyed the KFC Variety Big Box Meal for Lunch today.
– That included Potato Wedges. YUM !
– I could eat 250 Potato Wedges in one sitting.
– I may do another ‘Walk-A-Thon’ on-location somewhere.
– I may visit Coral Castle for the first time since 1987.
– I’ll be embarking on a Carnival cruise in just 16 days.
– This is a weekend without the NFL for the first time since last July.
– I’ll have ‘My NFL Weekend Game Picks’ next Thursday.

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

Let’s do this thing:

1.  I did not vote for Barack Obama; however, I sincerely wish him the best of luck in reuniting this divided country. I really hope that he does a great job as our new President Of The United States, for if he does then he may just earn my vote in 2012. I support him as my President.

2.  I think that President Obama has the support of a large majority of Americans. That’s something that George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George H.W. Bush never really had when they each took the oath of office. The last time we were this united for a new President was exactly 28 years ago when Ronald Reagan took over a divided and disgruntled country from Jimmy Carter.

3.  Late this morning the unmistakable aroma of hot and juicy and big and rich and delicious fried chicken permeated all throughout the parking lot of Homestead‘s Waterstone Plaza in front of Publix. That parking lot smelled so outrageously delicious that I wanted to sit right there and eat some parking spaces !  Say what ? !

4.  Don’t complain to me that we don’t have a Winter season here in America’s Riviera. We had one of our chilliest Novembers in modern history, and now January’s temperatures have been noticeably below normal. We may skirt with wind chills in the upper-30s tomorrow morning, and then on Thursday morning we may have actual temperatures approaching the freezing mark with wind chills in the upper-20s !  Global warming strikes again !

5.  A couple of people asked me why I posted this picture on Saturday morning:

The Grand Slamwich - Over 1,300 Calories Of Goodness !
The Grand Slamwich - Over 1,300 Calories Of Goodness !

It’s because I actually ate that for breakfast !  And I’ll be doing it again real soon. If you don’t believe me that I can deal with that 1,300 calorie masterpiece all by myself then I invite you to watch me LIVE and in person at Denny’s in Florida City (where all of the food is).

Those are my thoughts on this Tuesday night. Thank You for your time.
