Monday Night Countdown

Here are the TOP 5 things that I’m looking forward to this week:

5.  St. Patrick’s Day – Believe it or not I’m 50% Irish (on the paternal side), and I always look forward to showing off my Irish heritage by wearing lots of green on this date every year. Look for me in my flame retardant leprechaun outfit tomorrow on the streets of Homestead !

4.  Life Group – That’s this Wednesday night, and due to a wide variety of reasons I haven’t attended in exactly a month. I can’t wait to get back to the group again to discuss The New Testament of The Good News !  We also need to reschedule our Key West ‘Bike-A-Thon’.

3.  One word – Publix – It’s my playground. I don’t know how to cook, but then again I don’t need to know how to cook as long as I know how to shop for food – and I do that very well thank you. Whenever I’m at Publix I’m as happy as can be. It’s all of that food staring at me and begging and crying out for me to buy it. Oh yeah and the pop, rock, and disco music that usually blares through the sound system. It makes me wanna dance up and down the aisles like a crazy man.

2.  Dentist Appointment – Believe it or not I actually look forward to this cleaning appointment every six months. I always get scolded by my dental hygenist for (allegedly) not flossing and brushing properly. Six months ago after my last scolding I slightly altered my flossing and brushing routine and made it even more all-encompassing. (Right now my brother is giggling because he just read through an inside family joke there.)

1.  Vernal Equinox – Spring begins at precisely 7:44 AM EDT this Friday morning, and that means that the Sun is on our side of the Equator for the first time in nearly six months. That’s real important to me because when I’m confused I check with the Sun. I carry a compass to help me along. My feet are going to be on the ground. My head is there to move me around …

Saturday Night Retro

I always look forward to doing this every Saturday night. The fact of the matter is that I’m constantly searching for old videos (music or otherwise) from You Tube to inspire me with new ideas for the ‘Retro’. For those (few) of you who have followed me on the web since the mid-1990s and the heyday of my once popular former web site you probably realize that the ‘Saturday Night Retro’ is essentially a modern-day version of ‘The Major’s MASSIVE Memories’.

I had intended to do a completely different ‘Retro’ tonight, but then my impromptu visit to Monkey Jungle earlier today inspired me to “Jump Around” instead:

It’s a U.S. platinum smash from the latter half of 1992 from American / Irish band House Of Pain in honour of St. Patrick’s Day coming up this Tuesday March 17TH. Incidentally on Tuesday night I’ve got a really cool special edition of the ‘Retro’ lined-up – St. Patrick’s Day style. I’ve got two classic Irish bands performing together as one a very traditional Irish song. It’ll make you want to dance a crazy jig right there in your living room mate.

Until then – May the good luck of the Irish be yours !

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

For the first time since two weeks ago – it’s my ‘Grab Bag O’ Thoughts’:

1.  There was no ‘Grab Bag’ last Tuesday night, and there will be no ‘Grab Bag’ next Tuesday night. I didn’t even go near a computer (or any other modern device that accesses the Internet) for nearly 8 days during my recent vacation. That was from late at night on Thursday February 05TH when I powered off my computer here at home until the night of Friday February 13TH upon my return home from my trip. Next Tuesday morning I embark on yet another trip, and I won’t have access to a computer or the Internet for a couple of days.

2.  I missed a bunch of things while I was on vacation. I missed my Life Pointe Church family. I missed my CALL-FM music. I missed my workplace. I missed my car. I missed my computer. I missed my bed. I missed my pillow. I missed my blanket. I’ve got them all back – for now.

3.  Early this morning Homestead America’s Riviera experienced a few hours of actual temperatures down into the lower-50s (52°F at the air base to be precise) with wind chills in the upper-40s. That effectively met the criteria for a ‘Homestead Cold Weather Alert’, yet I failed to issue one here on this blog prior to last night. I missed the boat on that one. I actually forecasted temperatures to be a tad bit higher than that overnight. It will be a bit milder tonight, so there is no alert for tonight. I will be issuing one for Friday morning and Saturday morning though. ‘30s‘ may actually appear in that alert !

4.  Spring Break 2009 has unofficially begun here in the great state of Florida. The Daytona 500 every Presidents’ Day Weekend is typically the first big stimulus package that draws North American tourists into our state from the north. Come on down my friends !  America’s Riviera is open for business and pleasure !

5.  If you’re looking for me during the months of March, April, and I’ll even throw in May as well then look no further than right here in Homestead. After all of this traveling around during this crazy month of February I don’t want to go anywhere else for awhile once I return back home again from my next trip next week. I have things to do – like file my taxes, and find a new Doctor, and get a complete physical exam, and get my dryer vent unclogged and cleaned out.

Those are my thoughts on this Tuesday night. Thank You for sharing your time with me on this blog. I enjoy living Life with you !

Saturday Night Retro

This is perhaps one of my favourite weekly series here on this blog to prepare for, compile, and then ultimately publish for your reading and viewing pleasure. It allows me to reminisce about my storied past. It’s a past that spans from a mere millisecond ago to sometime in 1966 when God created me.

Allow me to do a bit of reminiscing here.

A week ago tonight I was exploring and enjoying the Carnival Fantasy as she sailed southbound down the Mississippi River towards the Gulf Of Mexico.

5 years ago on this holiday weekend I spent 2 days and 2 nights up at my former playground of the Walt Disney World area. I used to go up there for wild and crazy fun several times per year for about a dozen years. Other than once on church business (last April) I haven’t been up there in nearly 27 months.

10 years ago this week in 1999 I was rockin’ and jammin’ to Barenaked Ladies, Fatboy Slim, Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox 20, and Sugar Ray. Y-100 was the radio station to listen to back in the day. I awoke daily with ‘Footy & The Chix At Six’.

18 years ago this week in 1991 I was living in a MASSIVE tent city in Saudi Arabia serving during Operation Desert Storm. At that time I didn’t know when I would be able to return back home stateside. War is tough, but ironically I had a lot of fun in the sand over there. For many reasons (including the successful war campaign) 1991 was the greatest year of my active duty military career.

34 years ago on tomorrow’s date in 1975 I had my first Communion ceremony at Catholic school as a second grader. Communion means so much more to me today than it did 34 years ago – or even 4 years ago. Tomorrow morning during the first church service I’ll be at my usual position serving Communion to my brothers and sisters of Life Pointe Church at one of four stations set up inside the theatre.

It’s fun to reminisce about the past, but it’s all about facing the future and moving forward aggresively while chasing daylight.

Here’s a cool tune from a cool band out of Australia that’s still alive and touring today all over the world. From 1978 it’s “Reminiscing” from Little River Band. It’s one of my favourite songs of its genre of all-time. Enjoy !
