No Home Telephone Service

I’m 52. For the first time in my life I have no home telephone service. Well at least that’s what we called it up until perhaps 5 years ago – “home telephone service”. Now we call it “land line” – as if a cell phone was used solely at sea, but whatever.

My “land line” went dead sometime on September 06TH 2019. I realized so the next day on September 07TH, and I reported it to AT&T online. I was given a “service restore date” of September 16TH. Well that date came and went and AT&T did not restore my land line, and they did not contact me on my cell phone to explain why.

Since I was about to embark on my 3,000-mile road-trip to and from North Texas just a few days later I didn’t bother to contact AT&T on their lack of action. I would wait until after I return home on October 01ST to contact them. (Maybe they would restore my land line while I was away.)

Still no service on October 01ST, so I contacted them again – this time via my cell phone instead of online. After getting the runaround and getting transferred around to various AT&T employees, spokespersons, and call centers around the world about a half-dozen times I finally got someone on the other end who actually listened to me, understood me, and had the capability to react to my dilemma. I told her to disconnect my home phone service forever (she did so immediately), and send me a complete refund of what I am owed. I didn’t need my home phone for 3½ weeks, and I don’t need it anymore – especially since AT&T was non-responsive to it not working.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that AT&T cutoff my home phone service intentionally back on September 06TH. Perhaps I was the last man standing – the last household in my neighborhood to still have a land line – and I was wasting their precious resources by still utilizing antiquated 20TH Century technology.

I still remember all 3 of my childhood telephone numbers from 1972 to 1985. I had the same telephone number here for 25½ years from March 1994 until October 01ST 2019.

Now I just have my cell phone, and I’ve had the same telephone number since my very first one in 2002. I rarely utilize my cell phone to talk to people (other than text). My cell phone is essentially a small computer, and I use it for everything else. I’d rather talk to people in person – like we used to do back in the 20TH Century.

Weekend Kickoff Mini-Thoughts

Let’s try this again – a rapid-fire session of thoughts on my mind right this minute:

  • It’s been awhile since I last did this.
  • In fact it’s been since Thursday August 01ST 2019.
  • I’m not sure that some of you “get this” feature.
  • If you’ve been following my blogs for the past 12 years then you “get this”.
  • For those that don’t “get this” no worries – just follow along.
  • Last night was our last sunset at 7 PM or after here until next March.
  • It’s getting darker earlier, and I like that.
  • In a little over 3 weeks we return to Standard Time.
  • I prefer Standard Time over Daylight Saving Time.
  • I wish we stayed on Standard Time all year long.
  • Most people don’t know what Daylight Saving Time is.
  • Pretty soon we’ll start getting cooler here in South Florida.
  • By “cooler” I mean the 60s in the morning instead of the 70s.
  • We’re still a good month away from feeling some 50s.
  • Our 5-month rainy season is almost over.
  • It’s been a below average rainy season.
  • I enjoy our 7-month dry season from October to May.
  • I hope to begin my dry season weekend fitness walks soon.
  • I hope to do much better than I did last dry season.
  • It’s Columbus Day Weekend here in the U.S.
  • I adore 3-day holiday weekends.
  • Maybe I’ll go for a walk in the park this Saturday morning.
  • I mostly plan to continue writing my next sermon this weekend.
  • It’s on God’s “Kindness & Love”.
  • I have another sermon that I’m working on titled “Ways & Memes”.
  • I’ll be stepping completely out of my comfort zone for that one.
  • There’s a few movies that I hope to see on HBO On Demand this weekend.
  • One of them is that World War 1 movie, “They Shall Not Grow Old”.
  • I’m really looking forward to a quiet and productive weekend at home.
  • Tomorrow on the blog my RETRO series continues with 15 years ago.
  • My new blog posts go LIVE at 3 AM U.S. East Coast time aside from Sunday.
  • I blog 4 times per weekend on Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays.
  • I don’t blog on Saturdays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.
  • If I were to add a 5TH day of blogging then I’d add Tuesdays.
  • But I have no plans to do that anytime soon.
  • Programming Alert:  The 50TH GMA Dove Awards are coming soon.
  • The show occurs LIVE in Nashville next Tuesday October 15TH.
  • It airs on TBN the following Sunday October 20TH at 8 PM EDT.
  • I’ll be live-tweeting during the entire telecast !
  • Join me that night on Twitter @ChrisMDay as I talk God’s music.
  • The next morning I’ll reveal my brand new Top 10 music chart.
  • Well those are my rapid-fire one-line thoughts for now.
  • Enjoy your weekend and this 10TH day of the 10TH month.

Homestead Homecoming

I’m back from vacation, and this blog is back from its 2½-week hiatus. This is the 13TH season premiere of this blog – a blog that started on Myspace in 2007 towards the end of my first year of salvation in Christ, went to WordPress a few months later, drifted over to Facebook for a few years, and then returned back here to WordPress almost 2 years ago.

I returned home to Homestead Florida after one of the longest road-trips of my life – a 2,990.5-mile / 13-day / 12-night / 6-state / 2-time-zone road-trip to and from North Texas to visit family and friends along the way. It was great to see and catch-up with everyone !

It’s great to be back home again. I went back to work today – almost 10 hours of it. I even loaded-up on groceries at Publix after work. (That’s my favorite store in the world.) I’m especially looking forward to reuniting with my church family this Sunday. I’ll be leading Communion. Life is good. God is great !

All of my regular weekend blog series are back for a new season. Tomorrow (Friday) I’ll go RETRO – back to 2009. On Sunday I’ll share God’s Word with Scripture. On Monday it’s my brand new Top 10 hit music chart. I blog every Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday with new blogs going up at 3 AM EDT (U.S. East Coast time) – except for Sunday which posts later in the day. In-between blogs I tweet occasionally @ChrisMDay.

Happy New Weekend !

It’s the start of a brand new weekend of blog posts here at #CountUp, as weekends begin on Thursdays and end on Mondays. I’ll have my usual assortment of blog posts on Friday, Sunday, and Monday, so let’s kickoff this weekend with my Thursday blog post. This is a spontaneous “anything goes” blog post. I have no idea what I’ll be writing until I hit the keys on the keyboard.

So I’ve entered the 14TH year of my salvation. Lord may this new season of this journey bring me steadily closer to You through Your Word – reading and studying and understanding Your Way – the only Way forward towards Your light. May others hear about Your Good News through my writings – through my testimonies – through my sermons. May they too be brought to You, and be rescued and saved by You. In Your loving name I pray this to You – AMEN.

My next sermon is just about complete. I need to tighten the ending of it, as it’s running just a little bit long right now. My Lead Pastor wants our goal (for himself too) to preach sermons that are closer to 35 minutes in length rather than 45 minutes or more. Right now I’m too close to 45 minutes. My sermon has a new title too – “Neco & Nebuchadnezzar”. It’s all about the 23-year fall of the Kingdom of Judah from the day that King Josiah was killed at Megiddo to the day of the invasion and destruction of Jerusalem.

I’m also working on my next sermon after that – “Ways & Memes” – which will be a first-of-a-kind sermon for me that physically takes me away from the pulpit for the first time. I’ll share more details on that in a few weeks.

This will be another relaxing stay-at-home weekend for me (after work on Thursday and Friday). I’ll do Bible Study (includes sermon writing), and I’ll catch-up on DVR and Hulu watching. I’ll also update various Excel spreadsheets and Word documents. I’ll pay some bills too. Maybe even do some laundry.

So that’s where we are right now on this 22ND day of August of 2019. Go forth and enjoy this day, and come back here tomorrow for my normal Friday blog post that goes RETRO.
