Bedtime Stories

What a wonderful day it was today. I missed being with my co-workers at work, but the knowledge I attained, the experience I endured, and the fellowship I enjoyed with a bunch of my Life Pointe Church family members was all worth it. Thank You Jesus for continuously amazing me with these life-changing opportunities !

Are you ready to chill out South Florida ?  Get ready for a blast of cold air to invade our subtropical environment and temporarily halt the 85° temperatures that we’ve been enjoying for most of this past week. Temperatures will begin to take a hard tumble during the day on Saturday. It’ll start out warm and muggy in the morning, but then as the day progresses we’ll be dropping down into the 60s with wind chills into the 50s. Sunday morning we could experience temperatures in and around Homestead in the lower-50s with wind chills into the lower-40s !  Bundle up as you head to Life Pointe Church on Sunday !  We will struggle to hit the 70°F mark on Sunday afternoon despite wall-to-wall sunshine galore !

That’s ‘Bedtime Stories’ for this Thursday night. I’m going back to work tomorrow (Friday), but I’ll be back on the blog during the afternoon. I’ve got a special expanded ‘Friday Night Blogroll Review’ for you tomorrow night, so be sure to check it out !

Until then remember this:

The Fortune Cookie Message Of The Week Club

This week’s edition of the continuing saga that is ‘The Fortune Cookie Message Of The Week Club’ was submitted by loyal member Kelly on behalf of Travis:

‘Excitement and intrigue follow you closely wherever you go !’

Based on this long list of events I would say that this is rather accurate.

The Major’s Walk-A-Thon

Sky: Mostly Sunny
Temperature: 72°F
Relative Humidity: 95%
Winds: Calm
Barometric Pressure: 30.04 Rising

My thoughts:

Feb-23-Walk

1.  I took a more unusual walk around my neighbourhood on this warm and steamy Saturday morning. I mapped it out on Google Earth after the fact, and as it turns out I walked nearly 1.8 miles in a little over 33 minutes. I was sweating towards the end of it all, but it was all worth it in the name of good health and fitness.

2.  We may come close to 90°F later today. It’s a sneak-peek of what a normal day will be like here in Homestead from May through October. I need to figure out if this walk will continue through the hot and steamy months ahead, and if not then how will I get my weekend exercise. I may have to return to slam-dancing to European techno music circa 1992.

3.  There were a bunch of fellow walkers out and about this morning. We gave each other the customary ‘walking wave’ as we passed each other up. We’re all in this ‘Walk Of Life’ together. (Somewhere that Dire Straits song is playing.)

4.  A long stretch limousine was pulling out of the front gate of my neighbourhood as I walked by it for the second time. I thought to myself, ‘Hey !  You forgot me !  Take me to Dunkin Donuts !’

5.  I received some disappointing news at my Doctor’s office yesterday afternoon. After numerous analyses of my blood work over the past several years he has finally made the determination that diet and exercise alone is not bringing down my bad cholesterol (LDL). It’s still in the ‘elevated’ range, and it doesn’t appear to be coming down on its own. He has prescribed Lipitor for me – 10 milligrams per day to start off with. He gave me a free 14-day sample of it to ensure that it doesn’t cause any bad side effects with me. If I feel fine after the first 14 days then it’s on to Walgreens to get my prescription filled. I take my first dosage this afternoon. This will probably be the start of daily medication for the rest of my Life. I am no longer a young buck. Apparently I am now a middle-aged dude with high cholesterol. I am facing the music.

The Major’s Walk-A-Thon

Sky: Sunny & Clear
Temperature: 64°F
Relative Humidity: 100%
Winds: NNE 2 MPH
Barometric Pressure: 30.14 Rising

My thoughts:

1.  I added a tenth of a mile to my walk around my neighbourhood this morning during the seven-o-clock hour. I walked about 1.4 miles total in about 27 minutes.

2.  Ducks and chickens were in abundance during my walk. They were out and about eating breakfast. I steered away from them. I was once attacked by an angry duck. The unfortunate incident of a few years ago continues to haunt me to this day.

3.  Not a single car passed me during my walk. In fact I only saw three people outside. I think everyone was inside eating bacon. I can effectively hypothesize that because the unmistakable aroma of fresh cooked bacon permeated all throughout the morning air of my neighbourhood.

4.  A friend from afar recently asked me why I started this weekly walk. Besides the obvious health and fitness reasons this walk – inspired and encouraged by this fellow WordPress blogger – is symbolic of my walk with Jesus Christ. I’ve been walking with Him on His fantastic journey for about 18 months now. I was once a mannequin – plastic and rotting. Now I am alive. Since I am alive I am living Life (always capitalized) the way that I should have lived it during my previous 39 years on His great Earth. That includes throwing everything up in the air like ‘Tossed Salad’ (catch the symbolism there) and only catching the good stuff – the right stuff. A physical walk is now on my agenda to complement my spiritual walk with my Creator. No longer am I sitting still in neutral. I am now moving forward and going places with my Life. The Lord Almighty is driving me. I am merely His passenger.

5.  I’m taking this walk on-the-road starting tomorrow. I’ll be walking all throughout the Edison & Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers tomorrow afternoon. The walk continues on Monday (Presidents’ Day) at Estero’s Germain Arena for the Cross Reference Faith & Family Expo. Maybe I’ll even make a pit-stop at the Naples Zoo on my return trip back to Homestead.
