Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

Let’s do this thing:

1.  I did not vote for Barack Obama; however, I sincerely wish him the best of luck in reuniting this divided country. I really hope that he does a great job as our new President Of The United States, for if he does then he may just earn my vote in 2012. I support him as my President.

2.  I think that President Obama has the support of a large majority of Americans. That’s something that George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George H.W. Bush never really had when they each took the oath of office. The last time we were this united for a new President was exactly 28 years ago when Ronald Reagan took over a divided and disgruntled country from Jimmy Carter.

3.  Late this morning the unmistakable aroma of hot and juicy and big and rich and delicious fried chicken permeated all throughout the parking lot of Homestead‘s Waterstone Plaza in front of Publix. That parking lot smelled so outrageously delicious that I wanted to sit right there and eat some parking spaces !  Say what ? !

4.  Don’t complain to me that we don’t have a Winter season here in America’s Riviera. We had one of our chilliest Novembers in modern history, and now January’s temperatures have been noticeably below normal. We may skirt with wind chills in the upper-30s tomorrow morning, and then on Thursday morning we may have actual temperatures approaching the freezing mark with wind chills in the upper-20s !  Global warming strikes again !

5.  A couple of people asked me why I posted this picture on Saturday morning:

The Grand Slamwich - Over 1,300 Calories Of Goodness !
The Grand Slamwich - Over 1,300 Calories Of Goodness !

It’s because I actually ate that for breakfast !  And I’ll be doing it again real soon. If you don’t believe me that I can deal with that 1,300 calorie masterpiece all by myself then I invite you to watch me LIVE and in person at Denny’s in Florida City (where all of the food is).

Those are my thoughts on this Tuesday night. Thank You for your time.

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

It’s the Election Day Night edition of the ‘Grab Bag’. Here’s what I’m thinking:

1.  Smooth talking + saying anything + hundreds of millions of dollars + the media on your side = getting elected as our next President Of The United States Of America. The most qualified man for the job doesn’t always win.

2.  I’m a realist. I’m also a statistician. We’ll find out during the 9 PM EST hour for sure that Barack Obama has clinched the 270 electoral votes required to win the Presidency. When all is said and done I really believe that Barack Obama will take between 35 and 40 ‘blue’ states and win in a MASSIVE landslide.

3.  One party in control of the House, the Senate, and the White House – the Democrats – is the perfect antidote for the ailing Republican Party. We need a few years to reorganize and get our act together. We need to find and equip the next generation of young Republicans. Sarah Palin is an excellent start. Let’s work from there. We need something better for 2010 and 2012.

4.  If John McCain were to pull off the miracle upset and win this thing then we would have the same problem that we’ve had since the end of 2000. That would be bitter Democrats who actually believe that the election was stolen from them – only this time the bitterness would be racially-motivated. It’s harder to run this country and set its agenda for the next four years when half of the country disrespects you from the very start. President George W. Bush was obviously the most disrespected President in modern United States history. The same would happen to John McCain as well. A Barack Obama presidency would begin the healing process. I just hope that the media has the guts to report both sides of such a presidency – not just the ‘feel-good’ positive news.

*** ALERT *** – This final thought has absolutely nothing to do with politics.

5.  There’s a new breed of driver here in Homestead, and this breed appears to be multiplying. It’s the motorist that drives a bit below the posted speed limit (by as much as 5 to 7 MPH), yet still fails to come to a complete stop at stop signs and red lights. These are the ones that will pull out directly in front of you after plowing through a stop sign at no less than 10 MPH, and then slowly proceed up to a steady speed of perhaps 35 MPH – in a 40 MPH posted speed limit zone !

Those are my thoughts on this Tuesday night. Thanks for your time in reading ’em.

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

1.  TODAY will go down in South Florida history as one of the coldest October days EVER !  We officially dropped down to 57°F at Homestead Air Reserve Base this morning, and we’ve been stuck in the 60s all day long. Tomorrow morning when we wake up we could have howling wind chills deep down into the 40s !

2.  Homestead was shivering (I love that phrase), and everywhere you looked you saw adults, children, and pets alike all bundled up in thick winter clothes that usually only see the light of day about a dozen days a year. Those people over there in the tee-shirts, shorts, and flip-flops ?  Those are what we like to refer to here in Homestead as ‘snowbirds’ – also known as Canadian tourists.

3.  My 7TH cold in 12 months is officially in the history books, or as I like to refer to as my very public history books – this blog. This cold seemed longer and harsher than a lot of the previous ones, so it was not my ‘Lucky 7TH Cold’. I’ll be flying back from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so that’s only 32 more days until I get my 8TH cold in 13 months !

4.  Last Friday was Election Day in my living room. I voted via absentee ballot. I put it in the mail on Saturday morning. I just checked online with the Miami-Dade County Elections Department, and they have indeed received it as of this past Monday. One week from tonight we should find out who our next President Of The United States is. Whoever it is I will stand behind him and support him as he takes on a mountain of problems. I have very strong political views. They are so strong that I keep them to myself (most of the time) because they would offend and shock most people I know – including many of my close personal friends.

5.  Let me tell you something about a company by the name of ALLSOP with headquarters in Washington State, Ireland, and Shanghai China. I recently bought a ‘Metal Art CPU Caddy’ which is basically a little metal cart for my computer to fit in. The cart has 4 wheels, but one of the wheels was defective in that it was missing a bolt so I couldn’t attach it to the bottom of the cart. The cart was useless. I sent a short and simple E-Mail to the company on a Friday afternoon, and they sent me a personalized response back the following Monday morning. I replied to that response later that same day, and the next morning they shipped a replacement wheel to me via first class mail. I received it a few days later, and my CPU caddy is now in business fulfilling its mission !  In this modern era of widespread poor to non-existent customer service from retail companies I was totally ecstatic to discover a company that still does business the old-fashioned way no matter how big and universal they are. They cater to their customers who buy their products. You just don’t see that very much nowadays. THANKS ALLSOP !

Those are my thoughts for this Tuesday night. Thank You So Much for taking the time to read them.

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

With this edition of the flagship weekly series on this blog we begin the 2ND year of all-new thoughts on a Tuesday night. Who said this wouldn’t last more than 3 weeks ?  Often imitated but never as durable I present this to you:

1.  The rainy season has officially ended aqui en el Sur de Florida, and now we can look forward to delightful winter weather that residents of 48 other states (excluding Hawaii) can only dream of while we take it for granted. Having stated that – and how ironic – but we can expect occasional showers and perhaps even a stray thunderstorm or two at any time between now and Saturday night. The high humidity will return as well, but then on Sunday look out – sunny, much cooler, and definitely drier !

2.  FINALLY !  AT LONG LAST !  I am seeing political ads on TV for the other half of us, and they are being presented by the Republican Jewish Coalition. I’m actually cheering these ads on (loudly) when I see them because I’m just happy to see anything for my side now after having been blasted by negative attack ads from the other side for way too many months now.

3.  I’m hardly ever in a hurry when I drive from here to there, so I typically drive pretty close to the posted speed limit (unlike the other 8 out of 10 of you). Having stated that it just seems like whenever I do need to get from here to there just a little bit faster than normal everyone around me has decided that would be the perfect time to drive way too slow (below the posted speed limit) and box me in. Just my luck.

4.  I may look like I’m 22, but I usually feel like I’m 32. I’m approaching 42, but this past Monday morning I actually felt like I was closer to 52. This was after a weekend in which I nonchalantly sprained my lower back while playing air hockey at Dave & Buster’s, got very little sleep on Saturday night, cut open my right index finger on Sunday morning, and then got very little sleep again on Sunday night. Oh yeah I also slept improperly so my entire right arm aches a bit when I try to raise it. This weekend I’ll be relaxing and recuperating peacefully anhd quietly at home.

5.  Phil introduced me to Little Max (a Maltese dog) on Monday morning. Dogs don’t like me, but I think that Max did. P.J. and A.J. encouraged me to hold M.J., and once I hesitantly did so he wanted to take a quick nap in my hand. Max is lovable, but I could never be a master of a canine. It’s been about 33 years since my last dog was taken away from me. It was one of the most traumatic experiences of my entire childhood.
