Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from the previous week. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back 40+ years. Here’s this week’s chart:

NO NEW ENTRIES – After a whopping 4 new entries last week my chart takes a breather this week. But a couple of last week’s new entries make nice moves upward this week. MercyMe’s 6TH hit is now their 6TH Top 2 hit, as “On Our Way” ekes up a notch. Crowder follows-up his # 1 smash “God God Almighty” with his now Top 5 hit “In The House”.

You know I love a song that speaks of being born again:

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2006

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 1ST Friday of the month, so I go back 15 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday November 05TH 2006:

“Gravity” – The Fold
“Activate” – Stellar Kart
“Up Above” – High Flight Society
“In Such A State” – Edison Glass
“Waste Of Time” – FM Static

11 weeks into my salvation – before I even found and joined a church family – I was rockin’ to God and His music via my local independent Christian rock radio station – “The Call”.

Hearing these songs 15 years later gives me goosebumps. It brings me back to that euphoric time when I was a baby again – at the age of 39.

My # 1 smash 15 years ago was from The Fold – a band that is still around today after nearly 20 years. In 2006 they released their debut album – “This Too Shall Pass”. Its opening track was “Gravity”. It was their 1ST of 5 hits on my chart over the next 3 years.

I like the chorus of “Gravity”:

♫ Just like gravity – what draws You to me
Someone I didn’t know I needed
It’s like gravity – it’s stronger than me
I need You here ♫

Next Friday on RETRO I’ll go back 25 years ago to November 1996.

4 NEW ENTRIES – I typically average a single new entry per week, so whenever there are more than that it’s a special week of chart action. This week is spectacular with 4 new entries. MercyMe enter straight-in at # 3 with their 6TH hit – a song I got to dance to recently with my Tampa brothers and sisters in Christ LIVE in concert. “On Our Way” appears to be headed on its way to # 1. Also new this week is Crowder’s 7TH hit, Tasha Layton’s 2ND hit, and Blanca’s debut hit.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1976

It’s the 5TH Friday of the month, so it’s a special, as I go back 45 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday October 31ST 1976:

“If You Leave Me Now” – Chicago
“Disco Duck” – Rick Dees & His Cast Of Idiots
“Rock’n Me” – Steve Miller Band
“The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald” – Gordon Lightfoot
“A Fifth Of Beethoven” – Walter Murphy & The Big Apple Band

There it is – the surprise # 1 smash on the Billboard Hot 100 from 45 years ago. It spent a month at # 2 after its single week at # 1. It was also a Top 10 smash all across Europe and “down-under” in Australia and New Zealand.

When I was a teenager during the early-1980s I wanted to be a Top 40 deejay when I grew up. I wanted to be like Casey Kasem and Rick Dees, or even Dick Clark. I also wanted to be a Meteorologist. Then I figured that I could be a radio deejay who gave weather updates 3 or 4 times per hour. Neither one of those childhood dreams came true; although, as a blogger here I am in the weekly hit music chart business, and I occasionally write about the weather. So there’s that. #LivingTheDream

Next Friday on RETRO I’ll go back 15 years ago to November 2006.
