Sunday Scripture

On this Sunday we praised, worshiped, and celebrated our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. After the first song of worship I greeted my church family, and I led a prayer for all of our kids, parents, teachers, administrators, school bus drivers, and all of us affected by the new school season which begins locally tomorrow morning. I prayed for our God to continue to bless all of us in His powerful name for safety and security in and around our schools, and to and from our schools.

Our Lead Pastor continued his message series on the “Road To Heaven” with a lively sermon that looked like a lot of fun for him to preach. I love watching him preach. I’m an Associate Pastor, so I’m observing and learning from him every step of the way. When I preach it is Chris Day proclaiming and teaching God’s Word to anyone who’s listening. My style is a conglomerate of every Pastor I’ve had the privilege of personally serving with, observing in action, and watching on TV over the past 12½ years.

One of my favorite verses of Scripture was part of our Pastor’s sermon today:

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are a royal priesthood – a holy nation – God’s very own possession. As a result – you can show others the goodness of God, for He called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9)

This week marks 13 years of salvation for me. God rescued and saved me on this upcoming week of August of 2006 while I was driving to work in the twilight of the morning. The first miracle occurred on that otherwise mundane morning, and then a few weeks went by before I realized what God was up to. The miracles have been endless ever since.

For (I) have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. (My) new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal living Word of God. (1 Peter 1:23)

Thank You my friends for reading my blog, and for being part of my global church family. I’ll leave you with the same message that I gave to my brothers and sisters today to close out our church service. I’m not a fan of “going to” church or “leaving from” church. I believe in “being” the church and “bringing” the church in everything we do and everywhere we go, so let’s be God’s wonderful light out there (outside) wherever there’s darkness.

Sunday Scripture

Today was another glorious day of praising, worshiping, and celebrating our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ with my church family.

I prepared the elements of Communion before our service. Normally we observe and celebrate Communion on the 1ST Sunday of the month, but since I preached last Sunday I decided to move Communion to the following Sunday (today).

3 years ago I was honored to be asked by my Lead Pastor to take over monthly Communion duties from a brother who was on his way to return to his Creator, and so I did on Sunday August 07TH 2016. I haven’t missed a month since. Today I led my 38TH Communion at Living Waters Full Gospel Church.

Here’s how I began today’s Communion – word-for-word:

You know one of my favorite times of the day – is the end of the day – after I’ve turned off all of the noise in my home – after the lights go out. I lay in bed – getting ready to call it a night – and I reflect upon this day on this journey that I just lived. God led me through another day of continuous peaks and valleys. There was grace. There was mercy. There were miracles. God’s unfailing love was on display. Thank You God for another glorious day on this journey. I can’t wait to do it again tomorrow, for I know that You Lord will do it again in the new day.

You know we’ve all got great stories of how we first met our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. My great story began in the middle of August of 2006, and so this month – and specifically next week – I’m celebrating the 13TH anniversary of salvation, of redemption, of freedom. I once faced darkness, but now I chase daylight. I once was lost, but now am found.

(I then quoted Scripture from Acts 26:13-18.)

Before Communion our Lead Pastor began a new message series on “The Road To The Promised Land”. His sermon was based on several verses within Exodus 14.

But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still, and watch the LORD rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The LORD Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm. (Exodus 14:13-14)

Hate

A couple of nights ago I tweeted this @ChrisMDay:

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. (Ephesians 4:31). That applies to everyone – including those who accuse others of all of the above while declaring themselves pure.

Bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, slander, and evil behavior is a pretty good description of our nation today. It definitely describes our media and the entertainment and information industry – television, radio, newspapers, magazines, social media, et al. Nobody is exempt. Not even myself, yourself, and everyone around ourselves. That includes all of our leaders too – political or otherwise. We’re a messed-up nation (putting it mildly), and hatred rules the day. Hatred divides nations. Hatred destroys nations.

It’s easy to accuse others of espousing and spreading hatred, as we’re all pretty good at it in our own unique ways. We go around denouncing hatred online and offline, as we continue to hate certain types of people – because of the way they look – because of where they came from – because of where they live – because of what they do for a living. A lot of us believe that you can only hate other people if you’re a certain skin color or ethnicity. My friends – hatred comes from all skin colors and races. Hatred is colorblind. Hatred comes from deep within our hearts and souls. Hatred will continue to spread like wildfire as long as we have people deny that they can’t or don’t hate – while simultaneously spewing forth hatred.

Hiding hatred makes you a liar. Slandering others makes you a fool. (Proverbs 10:18)

Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible, and keep your mouth shut. (Proverbs 10:19)

Sunday Scripture

This morning I returned back home where I belong to Living Waters Full Gospel Church. I was honored to lead my church family in worship to our Lord. I preached my 26TH sermon in the 34 months that I’ve been preaching regularly. I love to share with my church family what God has placed upon my heart. I love to serve God and His children by proclaiming and teaching His Word to as many brothers and sisters who wish to hear me.

My sermon today – “Josiah & Judah” – was all about the 31-year reign of King Josiah of the Southern Kingdom of Judah during the 7TH Century B.C. I bookended my sermon with the theme of Types & Shadows. I identified the 5 witnesses to Jesus Christ from the Gospel of John Chapter 5. I then detailed Josiah’s godly reign over the land. I concluded with identifying how Josiah was a type of Jesus some 650 years before the coming of the Messiah.

Never before had there been a king like Josiah – who turned to the LORD with all his heart and soul and strength – obeying all the laws of Moses. And there has never been a king like him since. (2 Kings 23:25)

Here’s how I concluded my sermon – word-for-word:

… Well Josiah is a type of Jesus. He was godly from his youth. Like Jesus. He had the heart to seek first the Kingdom of God. Like Jesus. He purged the land and cleansed the temple twice. Like Jesus. He traveled all over the land proclaiming the power of God. Like Jesus. He built the house of God, and He revealed the Word of God. Like Jesus. He brought the people into the covenant with God. Like Jesus. He prepared a great Passover. Like Jesus. He died an untimely death. Like Jesus.

He was the last good King. Until the next great King – the greatest King that ever lived – the greatest King that still lives today – the most powerful King of them all – the King of Kings – our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ – who sits in the place of honor at the right hand of God !  AMEN !
