Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

1.  I just shaved. I shave twice per week – every Tuesday and Saturday afternoons. If I were to shave more often than that – even for a 3RD time per week – then it would begin to irritate my face. Shaving is easier when there’s more to work with, and 3 to 4 days worth of hair growth is just about right for me.

2.  The Cape Verde hurricane season is getting cranked up. Those are the tropical waves that move off the coast of Africa and move in a westward direction across the Atlantic. It generally takes each system 10 to 14 days to get from Africa to North and Central America. Tropical Depression # 2 is out there now, and I am forecasting it to become Tropical Storm Ana but remain a weak Tropical Storm for at least the next 4 to 6 days. It formed in an area that is generally considered to be too far north to eventually affect Florida in the long run.

3.  My goal in this new Life of mine is to spend less time on the computer and on the Internet, so exploring the wonderful world of Facebook and all that it has to offer is not an option for me. I am very happy with this blog (and its MySpace predecessor) that effectively chronicles the past 26½ months of my 36-month journey. I wish to continue this blog. If you wish to know what’s goin’ on in my Life then read all about it right here on this blog – or even better – hang out with me in person. I make a lot of public appearances nowadays. It’s easy to find me.

4.  It’s Day 2 of ‘Lipitor: Reunited And It Feels So Good’, and so far I have not experienced any negative side effects. If anything I may be discovering a positive side effect out of it – increased energy. I seem to be running around my small home a lot more. I’m literally running around – as in jogging. If it weren’t for all of these walls around me I would just keep on going.

5.  There’s Something About Key West:  After NOT visiting the Island paradise since the end of 2006 it now appears that I will visit it three times in less than 40 days. I was down there with a buddy on Saturday August 01ST. I’ll be back down there again the weekend after next with members of my Life Group. I’ll be back down there for a 3RD time as part of my Carnival cruise during Labor Day Week. It’s weird how events work out like that.

Saturday Night Retro

It’s a short edition of the ‘Retro’ for this Saturday night, as I just returned home late tonight from a one-day trip down to Key West and back with a buddy. It was a total blast. I got to spend a couple of hours out on the big island, but have no fret for I shall return to see it all again in just 38 days as the first of two ports-of-call on my upcoming Carnival cruise vacation.

Having absolutely nothing to do with Key West or Carnival cruises it’s the originally-scheduled ‘Saturday Night Retro’ concept and music video for tonight:

Back during the latter portion of 1988 Miami Top 40 radio station Y-100 was the station to listen to at the workplace. They dayparted their music back then in that they were essentially a ‘work-friendly’ hot adult contemporary station during the work day. But then at precisely 3 PM right after the top-of-the-hour station identification they went totally ballistic, loosened their tie, untucked their shirt, and suddenly rocked hard. We all knew that it was 3 PM and nearly time to call it a work day – when this hard rocker was cranked up as loud as can be:

Saturday Night Retro

21 months ago I set sail on my longest cruise vacation ever – a two-week Mediterranean / TransAtlantic Carnival cruise from Rome Italy to Miami Florida. The cruise embarked on the central west coast of Italy at the port of Civitavecchia (west of Rome). It then proceeded up the coast to the northwestern port of Livorno (west of Florence y Pisa).

Hailing from Livorno Italy here’s famed Italian deejay Mario Piu with his 1999 / 2000 European techno smash entitled “Communication (Somebody Answer The Phone)”. Its unique riff is actually based on the interference onto electronic equipment that’s caused by ringing cell phones nearby.

I tend to think that one of the most annoying sounds in the entire world is a ringing cell phone. I embark on my next Carnival cruise in just 44 days. I can’t wait to get away from everyone else’s cell phone !

Saturday Night Retro

Back during the Spring of 1996 I visited my Mom, Dad, Brother, and two cats in the Washington D.C. area for the final time. (About 6 months later that year they all moved southward to Jacksonville Florida.) It marked the end of a 27-year  homestead (1969-1996) within the D.C. area for my family (55 years for my Dad going back to his birth).

During that final visit my Brother and I drove down I-95 early one chilly foggy drizzly morning to spend the day at Kings Dominion. We had free tickets to the amusement park because my brother won a prize package on DC-101 (heritage rock radio station) related to the world premiere of the first “Mission: Impossible” movie that was a week or two away.

This song in history – although it reminds my brother of a particularly bad relationship with a former girlfriend at the time – reminds me of those good times that we shared when we went on that short road trip for a day to have some fun.

Here’s the MTV award-winning music video for “Glycerine” from Bush. It’s one of my favourite songs of all-time:
