Homestead Cold Weather Alert

14 days in a row of below normal temperatures in the 70s late in the afternoon and in the 50s early in the morning – that’s what we enjoyed here in Homestead from the 16TH through the 29TH of November. It all came to a screeching halt today as it felt more like tropical summertime rather than arid wintertime.

But the cold air from the continental north shall return on Monday night. Get ready for early-morning temperatures on Tuesday morning in the lower-50s with wind-chills in the upper-40s. Wednesday morning will be even colder with some pockets of the Homestead area dipping down into the upper-40s with wind chills in the lower-40s !

Warmer air returns on Thursday. Until then bundle up Homestead !

The Major’s Walk-A-Thon

Sky: Mostly Sunny
Temperature: 66°F
Dewpoint: 37°F
Relative Humidity: 34%
Winds: Calm
Barometric Pressure: 30.02 Falling

1.  This was my first classic ‘walk-around-the-neighbourhood’ outside of my own neighbourhood.

2.  It wasn’t the coldest, but it was certainly the dryest ‘Walk-A-Thon’ ever with a desert-like relative humidity and a dewpoint just a few degrees above the freezing mark. That rarely occurs in South Florida. The air was crisp, and it just felt so great to be out in it walking the beat.

3.  My brother and his wife and their dog live in a real nice (and large) modern neighbourhood of hundreds and hundreds of houses that are perhaps less than a decade old in the heart of Allen Texas – itself a northern bedroom community of Dallas. Allen is one of the TOP 10 safest cities in the entire country as reported in a recent annual survey.

4.  It was a 33-minute and 33-second walk at a slightly faster pace than I’m used to. My brother and his dog Buddy joined me for this nearly two-mile excursion. We could have walked around this place for miles and miles. Buddy was the one that was holding us back. I’m 41. My brother is 33. Buddy is in his late-40s. Buddy was totally exhausted towards the end of the two miles. Buddy is sleeping now.

5.  Me and my brother worked up MASSIVE appetites for Thanksgiving Dinner – coming up within the next couple of hours. We’re so truly looking forward to the ‘Dinner Of The Year’ !

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

1.  Last Tuesday I mentioned that I ‘felt a real subtle hint of a possible 8TH cold in 12 months coming on’ that morning. For the past week I’ve been denying the mere existence of any such cold since I only had sporadic sinus and drainage problems in one specific location – my right nostril. Over the past couple of days it’s gotten worse, but I still refused to acknowledge it as my 8TH cold in 12 months. It’s sort of like that Tropical Wave in the Caribbean that looks impressive on radar but is not classified as an organized Tropical Depression. This morning I took a Zicam (RapidMelts with Vitamin C), and I instantly felt better. I took another one 3 hours later, and I felt even better. I just took another one, and I think that my cold is gone. As a result of these quick developments I do hereby declare that my 8TH cold in 12 months did actually occur, and it is now done and over with !

2.  Just like my cold that is now done and over with before I even acknowledged that it had even started in the first place it appears that our U.S. economy may actually be coming out of a recession right around the same time that it is officially announced that we were actually in a recession over the past 6 months. That’s the way that it always seems to work out. Americans find out that the recession is over as they find out that it actually existed. This just in – 9 out of 10 Americans don’t really know what a recession is even though they use the term loosely as a crutch to blame all of their personal problems on.

3.  According to my friend Ritz Kelly-Kel of 91.9-CALL-FM apparently talked about my ‘born-again’ story this morning on her radio show. The Call was the device that Jesus utilized to grab a hold of me and rescue me from the darkness 27 months ago on a random morning in August of 2006. If it weren’t for The Call then virtually all of you reading this blog would have never met me, and I would not be here today with this blog. One day I’m going to visit The Call and tell my story in-person on-the-air LIVE !

4.  Hace Fresco !  I’m liking this chilly air aqui en el Sur de Florida. This morning was our 2ND consecutive morning with actual air temperatures in the low-50s and wind-chills in the mid-40s. Tomorrow morning could be even colder with actual air temperatures dropping into the upper-40s and wind-chills in the low-40s. It’s a sneak-peek of what I can expect all next week north of Dallas Texas.

5.  Speaking of Dallas my Washington Redskins put on another embarrassing performance at night LIVE on national television for the second game in a row. Allow me to be blunt here. The Redskins are stinking up the joint right about now, and if they keep it up then they’ll be watching “Desperate Housewives” on TV on Sunday nights in January instead of celebrating a playoff victory. Let’s get it together team !  WIN ON 3 !  1-2-3-WIN !

Those are my thoughts right now. Thank You for sharing your time with me.

Homestead Cold Weather Alert

I actually wasn’t planning to issue a ‘Cold Weather Alert’ for this upcoming chill because previous models indicated that it wouldn’t be cold enough to do so. Now it appears that it will actually be colder than originally thought; therefore, I issue you this alert.

Get ready for a bunch of frigid mornings here in Homestead on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and possibly even into next weekend. I’m talking about early-morning (before 8 AM) temperatures down into the lower-50s with wind-chills down into the mid-40s !  The afternoons will actually be on the warm side – but definitely cooler than they have been recently.

As a general rule (since there appears to be interest in this) I will issue these ‘Cold Weather Alerts’ here on the big green blog whenever I expect upcoming wind-chill temperatures to fall into the 40s and beyond. We must all keep in mind that during these wintertime cold snaps there can be a wide disparity of early-morning temperatures. At the same exact time that it can be in the upper-40s here in Homestead it can also be in the mid-60s up along the beaches from South Beach northward. The weather forecasts on our local television and radio stations generally average these temperatures out for the entire viewing region.
