Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday December 11TH 2022, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Let us love our neighbor as ourself.

It’s the 2ND Sunday of December, and it’s the 3RD Sunday of Advent. Next Sunday is the 4TH and final Sunday of Advent – the last Sunday before Christmas.

Some of you reading this have a Catholic background (including me when I was a little kid almost 50 years ago). The 4 Sundays of Advent are not unique or restricted to just the Catholic church. Protestant and non-denominational churches also observe and celebrate Advent with ceremonies, and prayers, and Scripture, and teaching moments.

Today is Gaudete (GOW-day-tay) Sunday – the day when we light the pink candle on the Advent wreath (if we have one). Gaudete means “rejoice”. This day reminds us of the joy that is to come. We recall the hope we have because of the coming of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ – our King of Kings.

As the Bible says in Paul’s Letter to the Philippian church:

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again – rejoice ! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember – the Lord is coming soon. (4:4-5)

(And those 2 verses come right before these 2 memory verses. You know them.)

Don’t worry about anything. Instead – pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace – which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (4:6-7)

So Happy Gaudete (GOW-day-tay) Sunday. It’s Rejoice Sunday ! Rejoice today ! Rejoice every day ! Everyone say “rejoice” ! You are not guaranteed the next day, so if you wake up tomorrow – REJOICE !

This is the day that our LORD has made. Let us – do what ? – rejoice. Let us be glad in it.

If you wish to learn more about the God I know then stay tuned to #SundayScripture. The best is yet to come !

Thank you for reading my blog for this day, and may:

The LORD bless you, and keep you.
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2002

Hello again retro music fans. Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 20, 25, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 2ND Friday of the month, so I go back 20 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday December 08TH 2002:

And here’s an actual snapshot of my Top 5 exactly the way it appeared on my web site at the time:

That’s from the 738TH overall edition and 379TH online edition of my weekly hit music chart – known at the time as my “Pure Dance Chart”. It was right in the middle of the 2ND era of my chart that lasted a little over 14 years from October 1995 to January 2010. For a little over 2 years from 2002 to 2004 I was immersed in the #EDM culture, and my chart reflected that short era of my life.

It was an all-female-led Top 5 – with Shaft leading the pack at # 1. Shaft were actually two English producers who did a bunch of covers and remixes right around the turn of the 21ST century. Donna Canale ultimately sang the vocals of their cover of “Sway” – retitled as “(Mucho Mambo) Sway” – but their original version included Rosemary Clooney’s vocals from her 1959 cover of the song. That version had to be pulled from the market due to a copyright dispute. Dean Martin scored a pop hit with his 1954 cover of the song.

Shaft’s 2ND version of the song was a Top 10 pop smash in Canada, Ireland, United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and New Zealand. A HI-NRG dance remix of the track was my # 1 smash for 2 weeks 20 years ago. It was a huge hit on the radio here in Miami.

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 25 years ago to December 1997. It’s when a 19-year-old New York City native hit # 2 with her debut smash that’s legendary.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !

Hockey Night In Texas

Welcome back to #TravelThursday. As I revealed in last week’s edition I recently spent 10 days with my family over in the Dallas Texas area. It was our annual #ThanksChristmasGiving – where we combine Thanksgiving and Christmas into one fun week (or longer). It’s been a family tradition for many years now, but this was likely the last one of its kind.

The highlight of this recent trip occurred at the American Airlines Center – a large sports and entertainment arena in downtown Dallas. It was built between 1999 and 2001, and I think I had been there before, but I can’t remember. Before returning to the Dallas Texas area in 2019 my family previously lived there from 2006 to 2013, so it would’ve been back then, and it would’ve been either a WWE event or an NHL game. Maybe I hadn’t been there before. The arena and the surrounding area looked new to me on this visit.

So me and my brother went there on Monday November 21ST 2022 to watch our Dallas Stars take-on the visiting Colorado Avalanche. It was a fun game. Texans know how to put on a hockey game. The pregame intro (audio, video, visuals) was unlike anything that I’d ever seen at a hockey game. It was quite the show before the show. I’ve been to quite a few NHL games over the past 30 years – far more than any other sports league. It’s my favorite sport to watch LIVE in person at the arena. (I think it’s actually quite boring to watch hockey on TV.)

The action on the rink was a lot of fun with the audience interaction (for both teams playing). Colorado had its fair share of fans in the stands. I also enjoyed the loud techno and rock and even country music (it’s Texas) in-between the action on the ice. I remarked to my brother that the deejay has to be really good and paying close attention to start a snippet of a new song at the precise second that the action stops, and then end the song at the precise second that the action restarts. His playlist has to be well over 100 songs – with no repeats !

The game ended in a 2-2 tie, so there was a 5-minute “sudden death” overtime with less players on the ice. Neither team scored. So a shootout occurred. Colorado won the shootout. End-of-game. Avalanche 3 Stars 2 (SO).

The announced attendance of the game was 18,532, and that’s also the capacity of the arena.

Next #TravelThursday I’ll count my steps. Let’s keep traveling together.

My Top 10 Hits – Week 303

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from the previous week. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back nearly 45 years. Here’s this week’s chart – for the week ending Sunday December 04TH 2022 – the 303RD week of this current era that began on Presidents’ Day Weekend of 2017:

2020 – “Every Step Of The Way” – Cade Thompson
2019 – “Dead Man Walking” – Jeremy Camp
2018 – “Even Then” – Micah Tyler
2017 – “Control (Somehow You Want Me)” – Tenth Avenue North

CODY – Mr. Carnes is still at # 1 on my chart for the 4TH week in a row. “Ain’t Nobody” is my 14TH # 1 smash of 2022, and it’s my 7TH # 1 smash of 2022 to spend at least 4 weeks at the top. It’s also clinched a spot on “My Top 22 Of 2022” chart which I’ll present in just 4 weeks.

BEN – Mr. Fuller is still at # 2 for the 4TH week in a row. His former # 1 smash nationwide on U.S. Christian radio is a favorite of mine that I just don’t get to hear often enough, but when I do hear it – I listen intently and sing along to it. ♫ It’s who I am. I’m a child of the most-high God, and the most-high God’s for me. ♫

CADE – 2 years ago this week Mr. Thompson ascended to # 1 with his breakthrough smash “Every Step Of The Way”. It was his first of 12 weeks in a row at the top of my chart, and it’s actually the # 2 hit overall over the past 303 weeks. Here’s the official lyric video of this awesome positive pop jam.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again with the new weekend – and 4 new entries – known as #TravelThursday, #RetroFriday#SundayScripture, and #Top10Monday.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May our God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
