Jury Duty

Yesterday I had jury duty up in downtown Miami. It was my first jury duty in almost 6 years. I was part of the manic Miami morning rush hour yesterday. It took me about an hour and 20 minutes to drive 30 miles. That was rather reasonable. Traffic was heavy (as expected), and I actually gave myself up to 2 hours to drive that 30 miles. If I had left 20 or more minutes later – I probably would’ve needed all 2 hours.

In the large jury pool room I pretty much read the current issue of a magazine that I brought with me (AAA Living), and I spent quality time on social media on my old iPad Mini connected to the unstable / unsecure public WiFi. Oh yeah – and I also glanced up at the TVs that were playing continuous family-friendly (and forgettable) romantic dramedy movies – a couple of which starred Diane Keaton. Isn’t that the only type of movie she plays in nowadays ?

A lot of people got selected for various trials by jury, but I was not one of them. At the end of the day I received my certificate of participation, and my civic duty was done for the year.

Happy π Day my friends. This entry kicks-off a fresh new weekend of blog posts. Tomorrow night I’m going #RETRO (as I usually do on Friday nights), but this week I’m not revisiting 2009, 1999, or 1989. In honor of Saint Patrick’s Day in a few days I’ll be celebrating the most Irish song to ever crack my Top 5, and I’ll share a little story behind the song.

I’m 55 days away from seeing them LIVE in Tampa (along with Micah Tyler and Crowder). It’s gonna be an awesome show, and I’ll be singing and dancing from start to finish. 3 nights later I’ll see Hillsong United LIVE in concert in Estero Florida. That’s gonna be a wonderful week on this fantastic journey on the road !

I used to sing and dance the night away with the world, but now I sing and dance for Christ alongside His believers, His followers, His joyful celebrators. God’s Kingdom is truly alive !

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. Enjoy this week my friends. I’m on Twitter @ChrisMDay, and I’m also the man behind the tweets for my church @LivingWatersHFL. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him. AMEN.

Sunday Scripture

Today on this first morning of Daylight Saving Time – historically the worst-attended Sunday morning church service of the year – we actually had a nice turnout today. Following 5 songs of Praise & Worship and Happy Birthday greetings to two of our own I led today’s message with a full sermon.

My sermon was titled “Present & Future”, and it was all about God’s plans versus our own plans. It was my 11TH and final sermon from my very first message series that started 13 months ago on the Book of James. (I usually preach once per month.) Now that I’ve finally wrapped-up a full message series I plan to start the next one immediately lasting the next two years !

Just kidding. That message series was grueling. God got me through it. God led me all the way. He showed me The Way through 5 chapters and 108 verses – about half of them God’s commands or obligations.

My next group of sermons (one already written) will come from all throughout the New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs with a little bit of Old Testament included as well.

From today’s sermon:

If you think you are too important to help someone – you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important. (Galatians 6:3 NLT)

Carry each other’s burdens. If your neighbor is struggling – then lend him or her a helping hand. If he or she is suffering – then comfort him or her. If he or she is joyful – then celebrate alongside him or her. That’s how you love your neighbor as yourself. That’s how you fulfill the law of Christ. That’s how you disciple. That’s what we must do in the present in order to secure an eternal future with God.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2009

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 20, or 30 years ago (rotating each week). Here it is – for the week ending Sunday March 08TH 2009:

  1. “Surrender Saved My Life” – This Beautiful Republic
  2. “Dead Man” – We As Human
  3. “Cross My Heart” – Nevertheless
  4. “Let’s Dance” – Hawk Nelson
  5. “The Last, The Lost, The Least” – Relient K

Nevertheless – what an awesome band that I grew up with as a baby Christian. They were very prominent on Christian radio, and as a result – the soundtrack of my life during those early years discovering and exploring who Jesus Christ was, is, and will be.

Nevertheless charted with 5 radio singles back then – “The Real” (peaked at # 24 in 2006), “Live Like We’re Alive” (# 2 for 4 weeks in 2007), “Time (To Let This Go)” (# 5 in 2007), “Sleeping In” (# 1 for 3 weeks in 2008), and “Cross My Heart” (# 3 in 2009). Hearing some of those early songs a dozen years later gives me goosebumps, and reminds me of just how far I’ve come since I first stumbled onto this fantastic journey.

Music has played an important role in my life of nearly 52 years. At the age of 39 God used music to lift me out of the slimy pit – out of the mud and mire. He set my feet on a rock – and gave me a firm place to stand. That’s why I share God’s Good News through His music.

It’s halftime. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with two more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Share the Good News with all who will listen.
