My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2006

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 1ST Friday of the month, so I go back 15 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday December 03RD 2006:

  1. “The Show” – Hawk Nelson
  2. “Rebirthing” – Skillet
  3. “When Everything Falls” – Haste The Day
  4. “Writing On The Walls” – Underoath
  5. “Gravity” – The Fold

Love Hawk Nelson. They were one of very few artists to score hits during both the “Salvation Era” (2006-2010) as well as the current “K-LOVE Era” of my weekly hit music chart. They scored a # 1 smash with their debut hit on my chart – “The Show”. It ascended to # 1 on this weekend 15 years ago for its first of 5 weeks at the top. It was their first of 8 hits on my chart (to include their 2 hits during the current era).

Their first 3 hits all spent at least a month at # 1 for a combined total of 21 weeks !

They also scored several radio hits during the 7-year hiatus of my chart (2010-2017) that became favorites starting in 2017 as recurrents on the radio – “Words” (with Bart Millard of MercyMe), “Drops In The Ocean”, and “Diamonds”.

Good music from a good band with an uncertain future. Jason Dunn was the original lead singer from 2000 to 2012. He left, and Jonathan Steingard took over for him until 2020 when he left. Daniel Biro remains as the only original member.

Next Friday on RETRO I’ll go back 25 years ago to December 1996.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

My Top 25 Hits – 250 Weeks

Greetings my friends. It’s the start of a brand-new season, and a brand-new month, and a brand-new weekend of blogging.

It’s Wednesday December 01ST 2021. I am back from vacation, and I am back to writing and publishing 4 blog posts each weekend (from Thursday to Monday). But all this month – starting today – I’ll be presenting special blog posts every Wednesday as well, so that’s 5 blog posts each weekend in December !

#TravelThursday continues tomorrow with the kickoff of my 7-part series on my recent 18-day / 2,822-mile / 5-state road-trip between South Florida and North Texas.

But right now it’s a special hit music chart to celebrate the past 250 weeks of my hit music chart. It’s my #Top25Of250 !

250 weekly hit music charts and 235 positive and encouraging hits have created this cumulative chart of my Top 25 hits of this current (K-LOVE) era of my chart ever since it was resurrected on Presidents’ Day Weekend of 2017 here in the U.S.A. after a 7-year hiatus. It’s based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay.

MATTHEW WEST – What can I say about him ?  He’s my # 1 artist over the past 250 weeks – statistically and genuinely. When someone asks me who my favorite singer is – the answer is Matthew West. Most of the time I get a quick response of “Who ?”. Like nearly every other artist on my Top 25 – I had never heard of Matthew West until 250 weeks ago. 5 out of 6 of his radio hits since 2017 are on my Top 25 – including his current hit “What If”. They all hit # 1 or # 2, and they all spent at least 20 weeks on my chart. The lone exception was his 2ND hit during the Summer of 2018 – “All In”. (It reached # 2, but it only managed a meager 11 weeks on my chart.)

250 WEEKS – What a great chart of music that praises and worships our God, and gives Him all of the glory. Each song on here makes me smile – and sing along. Some have a beat that make me want to dance for Jesus. They remind me of a distinct 20-to-30-week time-period over the past 250 weeks as I moved closer to God aboard this (now) 15-year fantastic journey that He has blessed me with.

If you’re not familiar with one or any of these songs then use Google, Bing, Amazon, Apple, or YouTube to check them out. Enjoy the music, but especially listen to the words. The words of these songs represent God’s Word. Any one of these songs can change a life forever.

He has given me a new song to sing – a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what He has done, and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD. (Psalm 40:3 NLT)

This is the start of a 5-blog-post-weekend. I’ll conclude this weekend this upcoming Monday December 06TH with the return of “My Top 10 Hits – Week 251”. Thank You for allowing me to share God’s Good News through His music.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1986

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 4TH Friday of the month, so I go back 35 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday November 30TH 1986:

  1. “Waiting For The Ghost Train” – Madness
  2. “French Kissin’ In The U.S.A.” – Debbie Harry
  3. “Sometimes” – Erasure
  4. “Everybody Have Fun Tonight” – Wang Chung
  5. “Hip To Be Square” – Huey Lewis And The News

What great music. What fond memories of that wonderful time of my life – enjoying the company of my friends and the fun times that we shared together in the south of England. This was the 2ND (U.S.) Thanksgiving of my life away from my family back home stateside. (The 1ST was the year before in 1985. I had just arrived in England 2½ weeks earlier.)

Berlin’s “Take My Breath Away” was the # 1 smash all across the United Kingdom, and back home stateside Bon Jovi scored their very first # 1 smash with the hard-rockin’ “You Give Love A Bad Name” from their multi-platinum album “Slippery When Wet”.

Next Friday on RETRO I’ll go back 15 years ago to December 2006. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

This is the end of an abbreviated blog weekend, as #SundayScripture and #Top10Monday are on hiatus for the rest of this month of November. They will both return during the 1ST weekend of December. In fact a full weekend of blogging returns next weekend – with 5 new entries on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1991

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 3RD Friday of the month, so I go back 30 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday November 17TH 1991:

  1. “The One And Only” – Chesney Hawkes
  2. “All 4 Love” – Color Me Badd
  3. “Romantic” – Karyn White
  4. “Emotions” – Mariah Carey
  5. “Can’t Stop This Thing We Started” – Bryan Adams

After New Kids On The Block (late-1980s) and before Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync (late-1990s) there was Color Me Badd. They formed in 1985 in high school in Oklahoma City, but they didn’t hit it big until 1991 (after the New Kids success had begun to wane). They were pretty much the only “boy band” to enjoy success on the radio during the early-to-mid-1990s. They scored with 9 Top 40 hits here in the U.S. including their first 3 at # 1 or # 2.

“All 4 Love” was the 3RD of those 3 big early hits. It actually replaced Michael Jackson’s “Black Or White” at # 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1992. (I loved both of those songs.) I loved the breezy – simple – poppy feel of “All 4 Love”. It really felt like a Springtime song, but it was a hit in the Autumn and Winter instead. I think (to this day) it’s my 2ND-favorite Color Me Badd song – 2ND to “Choose” in 1994. Still can’t get enough of both “All 4 Love” and “Choose” some 3 decades later.

Here’s the official music video for “All 4 Love”. It’s SO 1991 !

Fun Fact: I saw Color Me Badd LIVE in concert in Cincinnati Ohio – exactly 5 years ago tonight on November 19TH 2016. (They were part of the “I Love The 90s Tour”.)

Next Friday on RETRO I’ll go back 35 years ago to November 1986. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

This is the end of an abbreviated blog weekend, as #SundayScripture and #Top10Monday are on hiatus for the rest of this month of November. They will both return during the 1ST weekend of December. I’ll be back next Thursday and Friday with 2 more blog posts.
