It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back almost 50 years. THE AFTERS – Their 4TH hit on my chart since 2018 is now their 3RD # 1 smash, as “You Never Gave Up On Me” completes its ascension to the top in its 11TH week. They were also at the top of my chart exactly 5 years ago. They are 1 of my Top 25 artists over the past 8 years.

SONG # 400 – My 400TH song of this current era enters my chart this week, and it’s “I Know A Name”. It’s the 12TH hit for Elevation Worship, and 10TH hit for Brandon Lake. My Top 25 artists represent more than half (206) of my 400 hits over the past 433 weeks.

MICAH TYLER – He’s back with his 9TH hit on my chart over the past 8 years as he proclaims that “God Did It”. He put the breath in my lungs. He calls us daughters and sons. He raised me up from the grave. He’s always making a way. To God be the glory.

SUMMER OF 2025 – Summer has begun with the arrival of Memorial Day Weekend here in the U.S.A. As is tradition I’ll be presenting my Top 10 hits of the 15 weeks of Summer in a special chart presented on Wednesday September 03RD 2025. Last Summer Caleb & John & Cain sang my # 1 overall with “Somebody Like Me”, and it finished the entire year as my # 2 smash. I’m wondering if this year’s # 1 summertime smash is even on my chart right now.

THE AFTERS – Their 4TH hit over the past 6½ years reaches # 2 this week, as “You Never Gave Up On Me” continues to impress. All 4 of their hits have reached my Top 3 – including the # 1 smash hits “Well Done” and “I Will Fear No More” (# 1 exactly 5 years ago during the pandemic). You know – when I hear songs that were playing on the radio during the pandemic – I sometimes get goosebumps. It brings me back to that uncertain time in an eerie homebound world when our lives were disrupted. We had never experienced anything like it in our lifetimes, and hopefully (with lessons learned) we’ll never go through any of that ever again. But even during that dark time – God’s light was still shining bright. The Afters’ song “I Will Fear No More” was the right song at the right time.

CHARTBEAT – Back in the 1980s and 1990s I wrote about a lot of the chart moves of the week under the “CHARTBEAT” banner. Let’s go retro. My # 1 artist since 2017 is Matthew West. He’s spent more weeks on my chart than any other artist (176). And he’s got more # 1 smash hits than any other artist (7). “Unashamed” is his first # 1 on my chart in over 2 years – since February 2023 – when he ascended to the top with “My Story Your Glory”. TobyMac holds the record for the most number of hits on my chart since 2017. His 15TH hit – “A Lil Church” – drops from # 1 to # 2 this week. Down at # 10 it’s Mr. Phil Wickham with his 11TH hit since 2017. It’s a song that sounds like vintage Phil Wickham. It’s his trademark sound at work that praises and worships The King and acknowledges that He is in the room. This is a great song for church on Sunday mornings !
