PortMiami

Welcome back to #TravelThursday. For this 2ND edition of 2023 we visit the busiest cruise ship port in the world – #PortMiami.

It’s one of my favorite places here in South Florida, as many great vacations have started from there. In fact – 16 great vacations have started from there over the past 31 years. 17 have ended from there. I picked-up the Carnival Freedom over in Rome Italy (Civitavecchia), and I sailed on her maiden TransAtlantic voyage for 14 days from Rome to Miami. (That was in late-October / early-November of 2007.)

#PortMiami is about 32 miles from my current home – straight up or down U.S. 1. On a good morning with not a lot of traffic I can get there in about an hour and 15 minutes. It takes a little longer to drive to there than to drive from there – mostly because when I’m driving from there it’s a few hours earlier in the morning. Sometimes I can actually get home from the port in a little less than an hour.

When I move away later this year – I’ll be closer to two other ports on both coasts of Central Florida – #PortTampaBay and #PortCanaveral.

You know all this talk (blogging) about ports and cruises and great vacations has me excited to embark on another fun adventure. Starting next #TravelThursday I’ll begin a multi-part series and share the fun that I experienced on my most recent Caribbean cruise. Let’s keep traveling together.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2023 – After a 1-week hiatus due to “My Top 22 Of 2022” chart last week – I am back with my 2ND new weekly chart of 2023 – and 1ST to be published online. 2023 will mark the 6TH anniversary of my chart since the restart / resurgence in February 2017. This is the 3RD era of my chart. The 1ST era was born in The United Kingdom in November 1985. The 2ND era started in October 1995 – 3 years after the 1ST era ended. I enjoy compiling my weekly chart. It continues a lifetime hobby that started when I was a kid growing up in Lanham Maryland – listening to Casey Kasem on “American Top 40” and following along via the pages of Billboard Magazine.

FIRST THINGS FIRST – Consumed By Fire are at # 2 this week – surging 4 notches from # 6 last week. 2 weeks ago it appeared to be stalled-out at # 10. It kind of got lost in the shuffle during the couple of weeks leading-up to Christmas when Christmas music consumed the radio airwaves. Once December 26TH hit – the surge was on for this truly remarkable hymn to our Lord + Savior Jesus Christ.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again with the new weekend – and 4 new entries – known as #TravelThursday, #RetroFriday#SundayScripture, and #Top10Monday.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May our God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday January 08TH 2023, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Let us love our neighbor as ourself.

I preached a full sermon to my church family last Sunday – New Year’s Day. That was a surprise. I found out on the prior Thursday afternoon after I got home from work that I was being asked to preach on that Sunday. I accepted, and I immediately went to work with a brand-new sermon.

(Another already-completed sermon all about Paul’s disciple Titus was supposed to be my next sermon to preach, but I opted to save that one for a later date.)

So I wrote a sermon that’s based on the Matthew West song of late-2019 / early-2020 – “The God Who Stays”. Starting next #SundayScripture I’ll present that sermon in its original written form.

Also last Sunday after my sermon and Communion I formally announced to my church family that I was leaving later in the year. My plans starting next month (by mid-February) are to be here in my current hometown for only 3½ days each week – from Sunday mornings to Wednesday afternoons. My commute to join my church family each Sunday morning will soon be 183 miles instead of 3 miles.

I have not yet found a new church family that I can call home on Sunday mornings in Sebring, but I am looking online. Eventually I’ll start to visit physically some of the churches that I’m visiting virtually. That means missing an occasional Sunday morning service with my current church family.

2023 is a year of radical change for me, and this blog continues on to document the adventures of my fantastic journey.

If you wish to learn more about the God I know then stay tuned to #SundayScripture. The best is yet to come !

Thank you for reading my blog for this day, and may:

The LORD bless you, and keep you.
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2008

Hello again retro music fans. Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 20, 25, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 1ST Friday of the month, so I go back 15 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday January 06TH 2008:

  1. “The Minor Prophets” – Haste The Day
  2. “Wolves” – Chasing Victory
  3. “Ra-Random” – Transistor Radio
  4. “When Hope Is All You Have” – Spoken
  5. “Staring At The Light” – The Wedding

15 years ago is now 2008, and all this year on the 1ST Friday of the month I’ll look back at this breakthrough year of my fantastic journey in Christ – my 2ND year as part of my original church family.

Christian Rock ruled my weekly chart (a Top 25) during this era – some if it “emo screamo” rock for God. One of the bands that I liked back then were Spoken out of Nashville Tennessee – not to be confused with today’s Unspoken.

Spoken hit 3 times on my chart with “Time After Time” (# 6 in 2006), “When Hope Is All You Have” (# 3 in 2008), and “Trading In This Troubled Heart” (# 11 in 2008). Their 2008 songs were from their self-titled 2007 album. “Time After Time” is what you may think it is – a cover of the classic Cyndi Lauper song. I hear it almost every day. It’s in heavy rotation on my iPod Shuffles that (still) play at my desk at my workplace. It’s actually accumulated 1,185 plays over the past 15½ years !

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 20 years ago to January 2003. It’s when a Divine Inspiration led the way.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !
