My Little Buddy Boots

Boots On Guest Bed

This was my little feline buddy ‘Boots’. I met him in 1994, and we officially became housemates on New Year’s Day 1995. Over the years Boots developed my personality in a cat’s body. He was the smartest cat I’ve ever met. I talked to him, and he understood me, and he responded to me.

Boots’ favorite hobbies included greeting me at the front door all the time, following me everywhere I went, watching my every move, eating with me, sleeping with me, and (for fun) pushing geckos off the back porch screen in order to “save my life”. If Boots saw a gecko climbing on the outside of the screen it would only take him mere seconds to jump up and push that gecko off the screen and tumbling 15 feet to the ground below. Once he did that he’d look back at me for my instant approval (which I always granted).

Boots was with me for 12½ years – the toughest 12½ years of my adult life. Exactly 15 years ago this week on May 16TH 2007 was a horrible night for Boots and I. He was in agonizing pain (due to the effects of various diseases), and he could no longer hide it. He was screaming all night long. He could no longer walk. He lost the ability to purr. I knew that was his last night of life.

The next morning I made the ultimate decision to put him to sleep to end his terminal pain and suffering that he was enduring. I was with him at the very end at the animal hospital, and he meowed at me one last time as if to thank me for loving him for all of those years. His eyes slowly closed after that, and I cried.

His doctor said it was my final good deed for him, and that he probably lived much longer than he should have – due to the love that I provided to him over the years.

My Top 10 Hits – Week 274

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from the previous week. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back nearly 45 years. Here’s this week’s chart – for the week ending Sunday May 15TH 2022 – the 274TH week of this current era that began on Presidents’ Day Weekend of 2017:

TW LW WKS SONG TITLE ARTIST / SITE
1 3 10 Egypt
[1ST week @ # 1]
Cory Asbury
2 1 8 Wonder Working All Creatures
3 2 16 See Me Through It Brandon Heath
4 5 14 Sunday Sermons Anne Wilson
5 4 8 Fill My Cup Andrew Ripp
6 9 2 Honey In The Rock Brooke Ligertwood Ft. Brandon Lake
7 10 2 Me On Your Mind Matthew West
8 6 16 Brighter Days Blessing Offor
9 1 For God Is With Us for King + Country
10 8 9 Fake It Tauren Wells

# 1 This Week In:
2021 – “Help Is On The Way (Maybe Midnight)” – TobyMac
2020 – “I Will Fear No More” – The Afters
2019 – “Alive” – Big Daddy Weave
2018 – “The Way (New Horizon)” – Pat Barrett
2017 – “Forgiven” – Crowder

EGYPT – Cory Asbury’s 4TH hit on my chart is my new # 1 smash. It’s an unlikely # 1 smash in that it spent its first 5 weeks on my chart struggling between # 10 and # 9 due mostly to lack of radio airplay. By Week 6 it was starting to make its move up my chart. It’s actually been around for a while. It was unsuspectingly conceived in 2017 at a church service. It was released as a 6:22 LIVE single at the start of the COVID pandemic. During the Summer of 2021 it was released again as a single – this time as a shortened 3:20 studio version. That version soon began playing on the radio, and now some 9 months later it tops my chart. Although officially identified as a recurrent nowadays – it’s still a Top 20 radio hit nationwide.

SUNDAY SERMONS – It was a Saturday night surprise. Just as I was getting ready to shut everything down and go to bed this past Saturday night I got several text messages all at once from my Pastor and his family asking if I could preach the next morning. And so I did – for the 3RD Sunday in a row. I preached a continuation of my sermon from the previous Sunday – “People & Places”. It was an unrehearsed, unwritten, and spontaneous-from-the-heart message on recent people and places on my journey. Praise & Worship consisted of 3 music videos – “House Of The Lord” (Phil Wickham), “Magnify” (We Are Messengers), and “Sunday Sermons” (Anne Wilson).

This is usually the end of another weekend of blog posts, but not this weekend. I’ll have another one tomorrow – a special #BonusTuesday post. The next day – a new weekend begins with a special #BonusWednesday post.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday May 15TH 2022, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

It’s the 203RD edition of #SundayScripture. I’ve enjoyed bringing God’s Good News to you every Sunday for the past 4+ years. My first #SundayScripture was presented on February 25TH 2018, and it’s continued on almost every Sunday since then. (I’ve missed 18 Sundays over the past 221 weeks.)

I Thank You for checking out my blog on a regular basis. I know that some of you only come here for #SundayScripture and #Top10Monday. I also have a rather large readership for #TravelThursday and #RetroFriday. And of course all of the bots that check out my blog every day – particularly the posts that I wrote several years ago. (Bots with fake identities and profiles don’t just exist on Twitter and Facebook. They are also over here on WordPress.)

Starting this week and continuing for the rest of the month (May 2022 for the bots) I’ll be posting a 5TH entry each week – starting this Tuesday to cap this week – and then again this Wednesday to kickoff the new week.

Starting next #SundayScripture – and running through the end of June – I’ll be transcribing one of my recent sermons that I preached to my church family at the end of February – “Stones & Stumbles”. It’s the follow-up to “Holy & Redeemed” which I presented on here in December and January. “Stones & Stumbles” covers 1 Peter 1:23-2:9. (“Holy & Redeemed” concluded with 1 Peter 1:23.)

If you wish to learn more about the God I know then stay tuned to #SundayScripture. The best is yet to come !

Thank you for reading my blog for this day, and may:

The LORD bless you, and keep you.
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1997

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 2ND Friday of the month, so I go back 25 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday May 18TH 1997:

  1. “MMMBop” – Hanson
  2. “ESPN Presents The Jock Jam” – Various Artists
  3. “One More Time” – Real McCoy
  4. “Call Me” – Le Click
  5. “I Like It Like That” – The Blackout Allstars

Hanson and #Eurodance topped my hit music chart 25 years ago this week. The ESPN sports anthem mash-up was quite the strange one on the radio. It was like a modern techno counterpart to “Stars On 45” from 16 years earlier which itself was a medley of hit songs set to a disco beat. “The Jock Jam” was one of the most-played songs at Top 40 radio in 1997, as it received heavy airplay from May to November. It spent 31 weeks on my chart, and it was my # 7 hit of the entire year.

At the movie theatre I saw “Breakdown” 25 years ago. Now if memory serves me correct (and it may not) – I believe that Kurt Russell is in it, and it’s a road-trip thriller, and he and his wife are being chased and stalked by a sadistic truck driver. One of my favorite movies of all-time is Steven Spielberg’s “Duel” from 1971. I think “Breakdown” reminded me very much of “Duel” (same premise). I actually want to see both movies again. I thought about going to Wikipedia to see if my memory has indeed served me correctly, but I don’t want to read the plot and be spoiled by it. I’d rather watch “Breakdown” again to see if it’s what I remember.

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 30 years ago to May 1992. It’s when the 7″ Good For You Mix of Amy Grant’s “Good For Me” was in my Top 3.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday with 3 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !
