The Major’s Walk-A-Thon

Here are my thoughts in 15 words or less:

– It’s my 2nd walk around my neighbourhood of 2009.
– The last time I did this was the 1ST Saturday morning of January.
– That was way too long ago.
– I hadn’t done it since then due to a wide variety of reasons.
– Some of them were too legit to quit – like I was out-of-town.
– Some of them were poor excuses not to walk – such as ‘too cold outside’.
– Hopefully I can get back into my groove again on Saturday mornings.
– That is until it gets ‘too warm outside’ by the time mid-May rolls around.
– This morning was the last morning of Standard Time until November.
– That means dark early mornings begin tomorrow.
– The Sun rose at 6:39 AM EST this morning.
– I began my walk 11 minutes before that.
– Tomorrow morning at 6:39 AM EDT it will be pitch dark outside.
– I don’t need daylight at 7:30 PM at night.
– I need it at 6:30 AM in the morning.
– I’m not a fan of Daylight Saving Time.
– That’s right – it’s not ‘Savings‘ – it’s ‘Saving’. Look it up.
– Oh yeah – about this morning’s walk:
– I walked for 46.6 minutes.
– That made it about a 2.5-mile walk.
– That made it the longest walk ever !
– It nipped my previous 43.2 minute / 2.3-mile walk.
– My neighbourhood smelled good all around.
– I smelled dozens and dozens of varieties of breakfast in the air.
– It all made me hungry for some home-cooked food.
– Too bad I don’t cook.
– But Burger King does !
– After this past rollercoaster of a work week I needed this walk.
– It made me feel good.
– It cleared my mind.
– I haven’t felt this refreshed in a long time.
– I’m ready to rock and roll.
– I’m ready to file my income taxes.
– Be sure to catch the ‘Saturday Night Retro’ tonight.
– You won’t regret it dude !

Thursday Night Mini Thoughts

– I couldn’t wait to get home to do this.
– I was thinking about it during the entire 7.2-mile drive home from work.
– It was a mad crazy day at work from 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
– It was fantastic then horrific then fantastic then horrific then fantastic.
– The peaks of the day were so sky high and bright.
– The valleys of the day were way down low and dark.
– Satan was working overtime all day long today.
– He was running the show trying to make Life miserable for me.
– He was pulling the strings of a few puppets at work.
– Good thing for me God was working even harder than Satan.
– He was guiding and directing me through it all.
– He’s seen it all before, so He knew where to lead me.
– God prevailed, and I left work rather happy and satisfied this afternoon.
– The me prior to 30 months ago would have failed miserably.
– The me of yesteryear may have done something that he regretted.
– I’m so blessed that God gave me a second chance at Life.
– I’ve grown up a lot since God rescued and saved me in August 2006.
– I’m in good hands with God.
– I’m currently in my 22ND year of working at the air base.
– I’ve had a lot of supervisours over the years.
– Some of them were good.
– Some of them were bad.
– Some of them deserved better.
– Some of them made my life a living hell.
– My current supervisour is by far the greatest of them all.
– That would be God.
– But my supervisour at work is the best too.
– Tomorrow is Friday.
– I dig Fridays.
– I’m looking forward to this upcoming weekend.
– I plan to file my 2008 income tax return online.
– That’ll be after a ‘Major’s Walk-A-Thon’ early on Saturday morning.

Driving The Numbers

It’s Wednesday night on the big green blog – the only night of the week in which I don’t yet have a regularly-scheduled series in-place. From September to February ‘My NFL Weekend Game Picks: The Results Show’ was the Wednesday night series, but now that we’re in-between seasons I have nothing scheduled for this night of the week. I may just keep it this way too. Anything can happen on Wednesday nights, so stick around to see what’s up my sleeve. PRESTO !

And now here’s something we hope you’ll really like !  (obscure “Rocky And Bullwinkle” reference)

‘Driving The Numbers’ – what’s that all about you may ask ?  Check this out:

I’m approaching 57,000 miles on my current car that I bought brand new a little more than 68 months ago (in June 2003). I drive a bit below the national average of 1,000 miles per month. In fact it typically takes me about a month-and-a-half to drive 1,000 miles. Over the past 12 months I’ve driven about 9,000 miles. It helps out a lot to be able to drive to work in the morning and then drive back home again in less than a 15-mile round-trip.

On my road-trip last week with my Mom, Dad, and Cat in which I moved them (literally) from (south of) Jacksonville Florida to (north of) Dallas Texas I drove over 1,800 miles over the course of a 5-day period (actually just 4 days because on one of those days I rested in Texas). I essentially did about 75 days worth of driving in just 4 days. Of course only about 750 out of those 1,800 miles of driving was done so in my own car. I drove my parents’ car from Florida to Texas. Their car – a nice new BMW – was POWERFUL – much more so than my measly 2003 Saturn. It was certainly ‘The Ultimate Driving Machine’.

Incidentally I-49 within Louisiana may just be one of the most peaceful and quiet Interstate highways in the southeastern United States.

Once I drove past New Orleans last Wednesday afternoon I had driven the furthest west in my entire life. I once drove a stretch of I-35 between San Antonio and Austin Texas, but that was in a rental car after flying in to San Antonio. About a decade later I drove all around San Antonio on another trip there. That was also in a rental car. Perhaps one day I’ll drive my own car past New Orleans, past Texas, and straight on over to the U.S. West Coast. I’ll probably have a different car by then. I’m sure I will.

And now my friends I present to you for your midweek ‘Retro’ review this classic 1988 television commercial for the totally awesome new line of Geo automobiles. It was these bubbly commercials that persuaded me to buy my very first car here in America’s Riviera back in January 1989 – a sparkling new bright red Geo Spectrum. I put over 96,700 miles on that beast for over 8 years !
