Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

I.  It’s Tuesday night in my world, so you just KNOW what THAT means. It means that it’s the start of a fresh new week of blogging here at ‘The Major’s Life Blog’. See I couldn’t really say that when I was blogging 7 days a week, as there was no real start or end to any given week of blogging. Now that I’ve got Sundays and Mondays off there’s a clear start (Tuesdays) and a definite end (Saturdays). I can’t think of a better way to kickstart a fresh new week of blogging than with the flagship weekly series of this blog – one of the true originals from 2007 – my ‘Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts’. It’s a miscellaneous assortment or ‘Grab Bag’ of three of the most relevent aspects of my Life today. It’s what’s happenin’ dude !

II.  Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are my ‘nights off’ during the work week nowadays. Those are the nights that I can stay at home and watch the television, do the laundry, pay the bills, surf the web, and blog my Life. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I’m making public appearances. Tuesday nights are Toastmasters nights, and tonight is no exception. My role for tonight is the host of ‘Table Topics’. That’s where I get up in front of everyone, go to the podium, and lead our group into a lively question and answer session based on a script that I’ve written. I’ll be asking 5 to 7 questions to 5 to 7 of my unsuspecting labmates, and they will instantly have to stand up one at a time and give a spontaneous 1 to 2 minute response to my question. It’s actually harder than it sounds, but it’s a lot of fun because when you speak spontaneously you tend to speak more truthfully than you would when you have ample time to think about your response. I’m counting on more than just a smattering of giggles tonight. I’m looking for some outright chuckles and crack-ups tonight !

III.  Happy Groundhog Day my friends. I saw my shadow this morning, so that can mean only one thing. Light was shining in my general direction and my body was blocking that light from continuing on in a straight line. I know that there are lots of people in this country who actually believe that a groundhog up in the Amish country of Pennsylvania can forecast the weather for the entire free nation for the next 6 weeks. It’s a cute little tradition. You can even buy greeting cards to celebrate the groundhog on his very special day. While Groundhog Day is cute – global warming / climate change is not. I stand by my own humble opinion that it is the single greatest hoax created and distributed by mankind in modern world history. There are a lot of people in this world that are making a hefty sum of money based on this greatest hoax ever. There are so many different ways that one can change the world to make it a better place for all. Falling for the entire global warming / climate change hoax is taking the easy way out. It’s being lazy. Make a real change. Save a Life !

Saturday Night Retro

37 years ago at the end of 1972 I was a 5-year-old Kindergarten student at Magnolia Elementary School in Lanham Maryland.

Magnolia Elementary School, Lanham Maryland

The school was located about a mile away from my grandparents’ house. On most school half-days my Granddad would drop me off at school just after 12 noon and then pick me back up again 3 hours later. That was back in the days when you could attend any school that you wanted to no matter where you lived. I actually lived about 20 to 30 minutes away in Bowie Maryland. Later in the afternoon after getting off of work in NW Washington D.C. my Dad would pick me up from his parents’ house in this car:

Late in the afternoon as we drove southeastward from Lanham to Bowie along U.S. Route 50 (John Hanson Highway) we’d listen to WWDC AM-1260 as the TOP 40 hits were cranked out one after another. This was one of the top hits at the time at the end of 1972. It’s legendary British singer-songwriter Albert Hammond. He’s currently celebrating his 50TH anniversary in music, but back then he was enjoying a successful career as an International performance artist. Here’s “It Never Rains In Southern California” – his biggest hit as a singer ever – and one of the greatest pop radio tunes of my early childhood !

That’s ‘Saturday Night Retro’ for this week, and we’ll go back in time again – from the late-1990s – next Saturday night.

This concludes an awesome week of blogging. I’m taking Sundays and Mondays off from now on, so be sure to check back here on Tuesday night as we kick-off an all-new week of all of your favourite blog series. See ya then !

Thursday Night Mini Thoughts

– Let’s get spontaneous.
– Can we talk here ?
– For the past week I’ve been riding around in a nice new shiny red Mustang !
– If I had a dream car then that would be it – aside from the color.
– I drove around Homestead in a red car for 8 years from 1989 to 1997.
– It went from shiny red to faded red during those 8 years.
– The Ford Mustang was actually the rental car of my best friend.
– He’s turning it back in tomorrow morning.
– I’ll never see it again.
– I guess that I’ll just have to buy my very own Ford Mustang.
– But it won’t be a shiny red one.
– Maybe a bluish-silver one.
– That seems like it would be a cool color to ride around in.
– I should visit my local Ford dealership one of these days and look around.
– I’m watching Jay Leno on Oprah right now.
– I’m with ‘Team Jay’.
– I’ve been watching him ever since he took over for Johnny Carson in 1992.
– There are a lot of Jay Leno haters lurking all over the Internet.
– I never ‘got’ Conan O’Brien, but I’m not a hater.
– I’ll be returning to “The Tonight Show” to see Jay back where he belongs.
– Yesterday’s edition of ‘My Fantastic Journey’ was quite emotional for me.
– It was inspired by a praise report that I recently received via E-Mail.
– If my blog saves a life and brings someone to God then it’s all worth it.
– I believe that my blog has saved at least 4 lives – probably more.
– The fact that my written words led someone to God brings me tears of joy.
– I’m not a very good speaker, but I’m working on that issue.
– My skill has always been in my writing.
– God wants us to use our skills to change the world and make it better.
– I can only hope that my blogging ministry here impresses God.
– I have come to a decision regarding my future blogging schedule.
– For the first time since 2007 I will no longer do a new blog every day.
– I’m reducing down to a 5-day-a-week schedule effective immediately.
– It’ll be a Tuesday through Saturday blogging schedule.
– I will produce no new blog entries on Sundays and Mondays.
– That will free up some time to concentrate on some other projects.
– All of the popular Tuesday through Saturday blog entries will continue on.
– That means a full slate of ‘Retro’ every Saturday night.
– This Saturday night it’s a moldie-oldie from 1972.
– It’s a song that boldly declares that “It Never Rains In Southern California”.
– But before that get ready to dance to K.C. & The Sunshine Band.
– That’s tomorrow night on my ‘Disco Party’.
– Be sure to be there for the fun that just won’t stop until we reach the top !
– You won’t regret it pal.

Thursday Night Mini Thoughts

– Let’s get spontaneous.
– Can we talk here ?
– I’m currently fasting for about 16 hours.
– I have to give blood at my Doctor’s office tomorrow morning.
– After that I’m gearing up for a GINORMOUS Breakfast at the Cracker Barrel.
– And then it’s off to work to conclude this weird work week.
– I’m looking forward to this upcoming weekend.
– I plan to make the most of it.
– I’m going outside to play on Saturday.
– I’m taking my ‘Walk-A-Thon’ on the road – and deep into the Everglades.
– I want to see how everything looks out there after the big freeze.
– It’s gonna be a nice and warm and dry weekend.
– 80°F+ weather has a tight grip on America’s Riviera.
– If you like it then have fun for the next 4 days through Monday.
– We’ll have a brief cooldown for a couple of days next week.
– Only 23 more days until my upcoming Carnival cruise vacation.
– I’m getting really excited about it.
– Not only am I preparing for it, but I’ve already got my luggage out !
– This blog will go on a scheduled 8-day hiatus during February.
– When the blog returns LIVE I may transition to a 5 or 6 day a week schedule.
– I’ve been thinking about it for awhile – taking a day or two off per week.
– Sundays and Mondays would be the two days that I’d consider not blogging.
– This Saturday night on the ‘Retro’ I’m bringing back some 2003 Trance.
– But before that it’s the ‘Disco Party’ tomorrow night with Thelma Houston.
– Thank You so much for supporting ‘Moldie Oldie Music Weekends’.
– I also thank you for your requests, so keep them coming.
– This Sunday it’s the Vikings-Saints and the Jets-Colts.
– I’m rooting for a high-scoring offensive blitz in the Bayou.
– Light up that scoreboard Favre and Brees !
– I’m also rooting for the high-flying Jets to show the Colts how to get it done.
– Jets-Saints OR Jets-Vikings would work for me in the Super Bowl.
– Maybe if Favre wins the big game he’ll retire for real ?
– Or maybe not.
– Well those are my ‘Mini Thoughts’ on this Thursday night.
– Your time is valuable, and so I Thank You for it.
– Until I blog again (tomorrow) – REMEMBER THIS !
