My Chevron: New-And-Improved For 2008

This is the 3RD consecutive blog entry today regarding the gridlock that I endured during my Lunch hour, but in this story there is a happy ending.

Since I couldn’t get to Racetrac to fill up with gas (because that portion of Campbell Drive was completely shut-down due to the natural gas leak) I had to go down to Chevron at the corner of Campbell Drive and Useless-One. That particular gas station was my longtime exclusive place to get gas for well over a decade, but then I stopped going there on a regular basis because it started to get frequented by homeless people laying down alongside the building early in the morning and various incidents of near criminal activity. (I nearly got mugged there one time.) If those things weren’t bad enough the gas pumps were literally crumbling before my very eyes. I was scared to pump gas there for fear of either getting robbed or having the gas pump I was using disintegrate or even worse – catch on fire and explode.

TODAY was a different situation. That Chevron gas station has recently been renewed and rejuvenated with all-new state-of-the-art gas pumps. It was a total pleasure to fill-up my Saturn with 10.730 gallons of regular gasoline at $3.099 per gallon for a total cost of $33.25. I’ll be back for more in about 15 days. Just keep it safe for me to do so.

The Road Rage Files – Chapter 17

If you tried to drive anywhere within the cities of Homestead and Florida City this morning right around Lunch time then I’m guessing that you were stuck in the same ridiculous situation as me.

A construction crew accidentally cut a natural gas line located under Campbell Drive near the overpass of Florida’s Turnpike this morning, and that caused authorities to completely shut-down the southern 5 miles of the Turnpike from Biscayne Drive down to the terminus at Useless-One in Florida City as a precautionary measure.

That caused MASSIVE gridlock like I’ve never seen before in my life on Biscayne Drive (SW 288TH Street), Avocado Drive (SW 296TH Street), Kings Highway (SW 304TH Street), Campbell Drive (SW 312TH Street), Farm Life School Road (SW 162ND Avenue), and Useless-One (U.S. 1) which truly lived up to its name as it was pretty much a 10 to 15 MPH logjam of continuous vehicles northbound and southbound from Florida City to Homestead to Leisure City to Naranja Lakes and beyond.

Florida’s Turnpike eventually re-opened early this afternoon, but the damage was already done. At least all of the tourists got to take a nice slow look around our area while crawling along on Useless-One. Stop by for a longer visit next time around. Spend some money in our fine stores. Eat at our wonderful restaurants. It’s good for our economy !

U.S.A. National Gas Temperature Map

It’s time to catch up again on current gasoline prices all across the great United States Of America.

Click here for a cool colour-coded map of our country that shows how much gas costs per gallon (on average) in each county (updated daily).

Oil prices have recently tumbled a bit, and gas prices have done so as well from their recent near record highs. They currently vary from under $2.71 per gallon (mostly in the Kansas City Missouri metropolitan area) to over $3.31 per gallon (much of northern and central California). The greener counties are the cheaper ones, and the redder counties are the more expensive ones. Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma generally have the cheapest gas in the country.

The Road Rage Files – Chapter 14

I understand that you (other drivers in general) are going to run stop signs as if they don’t really say ‘STOP‘ but rather ‘KEEP GOING IF YOU’RE TURNING RIGHT‘, and I understand that you (other drivers in general) are going to turn right on a red light without even stopping (or even slowing down at times).

But when you do so, and you see a single car (such as mine – with no other vehicle in sight behind me) headed your way on the main road with no stop sign and a green light then wouldn’t it be so very courteous of you of waiting a couple of seconds until I pass by before you make your unlawful move ?

It would save me from drastically slowing down or slamming on my brakes to avoid crashing in to you due to your illegal road maneuver. I’d like to keep my perfect accident-free driving record (since 1984) intact.

This is particularly a problem for those of you who live in a certain neighbourhood here in Homestead that has a lot of water and a lot of stone scattered throughout. You live in a real nice neighbourhood. Why are you all in such a hurry to speed out of it onto Speedway Boulevard and Campbell Drive ?
