Welcome To November

Greetings Brothers and Sisters of my extended church family all across the globe. November is here. It’s my favorite month of the year – by far – and it’s not even close. I love November due to a variety of reasons.

Daylight Saving Time ends. I don’t like Daylight Saving Time. I wish it were abolished forever. I like Standard Time. I like the sun up early in the morning. I like the sun down early in the evening. I like the real time zone. I wish we stayed on Standard Time permanently. Florida actually passed a law earlier this year to stay on Daylight Saving Time permanently. They can’t do that unless Congress votes to allow it. Congress is ignoring it for now. I hope they continue to ignore it indefinitely. I already set one of my clocks back an hour. The battery actually died in it today, so when I replaced the battery I set it back to Standard Time. It looks good now. I’m looking forward to this Sunday morning when that clock’s time is correct.

I usually feel my coldest weather of the year every November – not because I live in South Florida – but because I visit my family up in Ohio – north of Cincinnati. I like cooler weather – not colder weather. Here in South Florida we start feeling the 60s in the morning instead of the 70s – and the 70s in the afternoon instead of the 80s. Sometimes we even feel the 50s at night.

Up in Ohio I’ll feel the teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s, and I’ll probably see snow as well. I’m not a fan of Cincinnati weather in the winter. Every November I visit my family up there, and we celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas combined in one fun-filled week. We call it #ThanksChristmasGiving, and it’s been a family tradition for us for about 12 years now. This year I’m actually going up for two weeks. It’ll be the longest #ThanksChristmasGiving in modern recorded history. It may also be the last one in the Cincinnati area. My family may be moving back to the Dallas Texas area next summer.

On Thanksgiving Day we start with a hearty homemade Breakfast (cooked by my little brother – age 43), and then we open all of the presents underneath the Christmas tree. My two nieces – ages 8 and 5 – love that part of the morning – even though it usually only lasts for about 15 minutes. They then play with their new toys for the rest of the day. Dinner begins cooking shortly after Noon while the NFL is on the tube. A traditional Thanksgiving dinner is served right around 3 PM, and then we barely move after that – while continuing to watch football.

So there’s my November for you. I’ll be blogging less in November because I’ll be with my family having all of that fun. My Thursday, Friday, and Sunday blogs will take a break for a couple of weeks, but I’ll continue to post my all-new Top 10 hit music chart every Monday through November.

Tomorrow I’ll post my normal Friday blog, as I’ll go RETRO back to the first weekend of November of 2008.

Have a nice evening my friends, and welcome to the weekend and this wonderful new month of November !

The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1988

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference from either 10, 20, or 30 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday June 19TH 1988:

  1. I Should Be So Lucky – Kylie Minogue
  2. Together Forever – Rick Astley
  3. That’s The Way It Is – Mel And Kim
  4. Stutter Rap – Morris Minor And The Majors
  5. Doctorin’ The House – Coldcut Ft. Yazz And The Plastic Population

I just checked out my original checkbook registers from exactly 30 years ago this week. (Believe it or not I’m still using the exact same checking account today as I did 30 years ago.)

I was certainly a regular customer of Little Caesar’s Pizza back then, and they delivered all day every day to all of the dorms on base (Homestead Air Force Base Florida – where I still work today). I always paid via check, and according to my checkbook register I was a big fan of their two pepperoni pizza-pizzas, crazy bread, and coca colas back then.

Nowadays I rarely eat carry-out pizza (from anywhere), and I gave up all carbonated beverages a few years ago. I have eaten Little Caesar’s Pizza a few times over this past year, and it’s good, but I think that it was so much better back in 1988 !

This concludes my 2 blogs this weekend. “Saturday Night Retro” is taking a rest for the next week. I’ll be back with “Sunday Scripture” in 9 days on Sunday June 24TH 2018.

My 51ST Birthday

IMG_3090

This past Tuesday June 05TH was my 51ST Birthday !  I celebrated the day by taking the day off from work and taking advantage of free stuff close to home. I started at my neighborhood Denny’s where I enjoyed a free Build Your Own Grand Slam. Later in the day I saw a free movie at my neighborhood movie theatre. I saw “Life Of The Party” (starring Melissa McCarthy). Following a post-movie haircut I capped the day with a free panini and a venti mocha Frappuccino at my neighborhood Starbucks.

Two days earlier (on Sunday) my church family sang “Happy Birthday” to me, and then a group of us went out to Lunch at Red Lobster – one of my favorite restaurants. I think another group from my church family wants to take me out to Lunch this coming Sunday after service. I accept !

Yesterday (Wednesday) at work a bunch of my coworkers surprised me with the beautiful birthday cake (pictured above). How they kept it a secret from me remains a mystery – and quite an accomplishment !

I’ve still got some more birthday freebees and discounts to enjoy, but they are good through the entire month of June. There’s a free Royal Red Robin Burger waiting for me at Red Robin. Gotta get my free pastry at Panera. I love the month of June !

The Summer Of 2011

Saturday June 04TH 2011
Volume 3 / Number 17 / Edition 114

Well here it is the 1ST Saturday night of June of 2011, and it’s Summer in the city. The regular TV season is over. The NBA and the NHL are playing their respective championship series. A new Atlantic basin tropical season has begun. School’s nearly out for Summer !

Where has the time gone ?  Whatever happened to the now lost art form of creative expression that was blogging ?  This is only my 6TH blog post of 2011. Once upon a time in a year not so long ago I was blogging at least 6 times per week. That was in a different era. All things must change. Life must continue to evolve. Unlike virtually all of my closest friends I have not totally abandoned the fine art of blogging. I’ll continue to make occasional appearances here on WordPress to let you know what’s happenin’.

Here’s what’s goin’ on. Today is the last day of me being 43. I celebrate my 44TH birthday tomorrow – June 05TH. I plan to kickoff the celebration bright and early tomorrow morning at Denny’s where I’ll enjoy my free birthday Grand Slam. Naturally I’ll go with the All-American Slam® – a favourite of mine at ‘America’s Diner’.

This Monday I observe the 26TH anniversary of my High School Graduation, and next Sunday marks my 26TH anniversary working for the USAF (military and civilian combined). It actually does seem like 26 years ago !

June 06TH 1985, McLean Virginia

I’m not blogging on a regular basis anymore, but I’m still active online. Just don’t look for me anywhere on that vast wasteland known as Facebook. I’ve never signed-up for it. I don’t follow what the rest of the world is doing. If you want to ‘friend’ me then please do so in person rather than on the fake world of Facebook.

I’m on Twitter, as I tweet daily @majorhitwaves. I’m also quietly building my photographic collection on Flickr. So far I’ve got 278 pictures up. They are mostly vacation pictures of the past 5 years (many taken by family and friends). I try to add at least a few pictures to the site every few days, so my photostream should look new to you if you check it out every so often. One of my biggest regrets in life is the fact that I never took any pictures of my life up until a little over a year ago. I actually got my first camera last year when I bought my first Android smartphone. It’s a 5 megapixel camera that takes really good pictures. See for yourself on my Flickr !

My Fantastic Journey following my Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ continues stronger than ever. He rescued me from the darkness of the world 57 months ago, and the Life that I live today is radically different than the life that I led for the first 39 years on this Earth. I don’t force my faith on anyone; however, if you wish to know more about the God that I know and my relationship with Him then please don’t hesitate to walk with me on this journey and I’ll share The Good News with you. You won’t regret it pal !

Everything else in my Life is pretty much status quo for the most part. I’ve been working at the same place – Homestead ARB – for the past 23½ years. I’ve lived in the same home for the past 16 years (next week is the anniversary for that). I’ve driven the same car for the past 8 years (the end of this month is its anniversary). Home Sweet Homestead. Life is good. God is GREAT !
