Texas: It Reminds Me Of Florida

Late yesterday afternoon the northern skies over Allen Texas got dark, and lightning was clearly visible. But it never rained in my brother‘s neighbourhood. We drove a few miles towards the other side of town, and there was substantial flooding everywhere !  It was still raining a little bit, but it had already rained a lot. We picked-up our dinner (at Wingstop), and then we headed back home again in the puddles. Once we got back to his neighbourhood we realized that it was bone dry again. It never rained here.

It reminds me of home – a place where we can have torrential downpours for an hour over one neighbourhood in Homestead, and nothing at all everywhere else. What rain ?  We didn’t get any rain !  Are you kidding me ?

Saturday Morning Shenanigans

Here are a few thoughts from my Saturday morning:

1.  I walked in to Miami Internacional Aeropuerto at exactly 6:45 AM, and by 7:15 AM I had successfully self-checked-in with my airline, picked up my tag for my suitcase, and dropped off my suitcase with the screening section. By 7:30 AM I had successfully gone through security. It took a little over 45 minutes to get from the outside of the terminal to the actual gate. That’s not too bad. Anytime I can get from outside to the gate in less than an hour is a good time.

2.  Your typical big city airport may be crowded, but it can also be one of the loneliest places in the world. It’s never about the sheer number of people. It’s always about the quality of the interaction of the people. Call it fellowship. If there’s a lack of fellowship then it’s not fully alive.

3.  There were large organized groups of missionaries at the airport. Most of them came from or were headed to various Caribbean nations (such as Haiti) to assist in the relief efforts there. I know this because they all had colourful tee-shirts on stating that they were missionairies. Some of the tee-shirts had a map of Haiti on them. Some of them had a verse from Matthew on them.

4.  I usually can’t sleep at all no matter how hard I try to up in the air, but this morning I managed to somehow catch a few catnaps at 38,000 feet. I also listened to the hits on my iPod Shuffle and watched a couple of funny CBS sitcoms on the overhead monitors – “The Big Bang Theory” and “The New Adventures Of Old Christine“.

5.  Fuddruckers – It’s What Was For Lunch !  Need I say more my friends ?

HOW TO COOK A RAW EGG WITH TWO CELL PHONES:

An Egg Between Two Cell Phones

A Soft-Boiled Egg

Vladimir Lagovski and Andrei Moiseynko from Komsomolskaya Pravda Newspaper in Moscow decided to learn first-hand how harmful cell phones are. There is no magic in cooking with your cell phone. The secret is in the radio waves that the cell phone radiates.

The journalists created a simple microwave structure as shown in the (first) picture. They called from one cell phone to the other and left both phones on talking mode. They placed a tape recorder next to the phones to imitate sounds of speaking so the phones would stay on.

After 15 minutes the egg became slightly warm. After 25 minutes it became very warm. After 40 minutes it became very hot. After 65 minutes it was cooked !

IMAGINE THE DAMAGE YOU’RE DOING TO YOURSELF EVERY TIME YOU USE A CELL PHONE !

IMAGINE THIS BEING … AN INTERNET HOAX !

Bedtime Stories

What a crazy day it was today. During a 15½-hour time-span away from home from 5:50 AM to 9:20 PM here’s what I did (in a nutshell):

1.  I went to work.

2.  I attended a nice retirement luncheon at work (picnic-style outside) for a lady / colleague who has worked at the base since the mid-1970s. The base is losing a financial wizard as she walks off into the sunset.

3.  I drove straight from work over to the Life Pointe Church offices in old historic uptown Homestead. Venus and I will be starring in this Sunday’s promotional video for the continuing ‘Got Funk ?’ message series. I won’t be there to see it world premiere on the big screen this Sunday morning (showtimes at approximately 9:25 and 10:55), but I’m pretty sure that you crazy cats will tell me all about it here on my blog on Sunday afternoon. I must warn you though that this latest creation from Fuser Films Of Homestead (Jesse S.) is somewhat scandalous and downright shocking. You’re not gonna believe what comes out of my mouth in the acting role of a lifetime. This is what all of Life Pointe Church is going to be talking about out in the main lobby after both services !  You’re not gonna wanna miss it pal.

4.  From the LPC offices I drove straight over to Anne J.’s and J.T.’s house for Life Group. Tonight was ‘Fellowship Night’, so we enjoyed lots of food and fun and games. We played Outburst. My team (which included Venus, Nicole, Willie, and J.T. lost 62-60). It was a lot of fun though, and that’s what really matters.

5.  I got home late tonight, and I realized that I’ve got a lot of work to do tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday afternoon after I get home from work in preparation for my upcoming vacation – such as doing laundry and packing. I shall GIT-R-DONE !

But right now all I’m thinking about is getting some rest, so I’ll be shutting everything down and doing just that over the next 45 minutes or so. Have a wonderful Wednesday evening everyone, and be sure to catch me again on here tomorrow night for your ‘Thursday Night Internet Hoax Hall-Of-Shame’. It’s the one that’s gonna make you tremble in fear – or not !

Good Night Everyone !  Good Night Anne J. !
