Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

If it’s Tuesday night – then you just know what I’m all about:

1.  After one of the coldest Novembers in South Florida in a century we are now experiencing extended summer-like weather conditions in December. Expect mid-afternoon temperatures in the upper-70s to the lower-80s for the unforeseeable future. Season’s Greetings !

2.  Some people do their best work while sitting down, but as far as I’m concerned public toilets are for standing up – not for sitting down. There’s only one place where I sit down – at home !

3.  I’ve already received about a half a dozen Christmas cards in the mail from friends across the free nation. Have no fear, for my Christmas cards will be going out via first class mail (hopefully) this weekend.

4.  I got a haircut today at Woody’s of Homestead. I’ve been going there since I was a kid in my late-20s. I recommend that joint to anyone who’s looking for a no-nonsense barber shop. Simple does it !

5.  Travis introduced me to La Cruzada Taqueria at Lunch today. It’s a cool little Mexican restaurant tucked away in a corner of Olde Historic Downtown Homestead. I delighted in a MASSIVE chimichanga with chicken inside and rice and beans. It was outrageously tasty. It was a MASSIVE Lunch, and in just a few more hours I’ll be partaking in a MASSIVE Dinner at the house of Dr. J.T. & A.J. as we do Food, Fun, and Fellowship with my closest friends in Life. I dig that groove !

Thanks for sharing a small piece of your Tuesday night with me here on my blog.

Saturday Night Retro

1997. It’s the year that I turned 30-years-old and celebrated my 10TH anniversary of living and working here in Homestead Florida. I ditched my longtime 1989 Geo Spectrum (bought brand new) after over 96,700 miles, and I joined the Saturn family by buying my first of three fine cars from the company. I lost my original 486-SX desktop computer system due to a catastrophic hard drive failure, and when that happened ‘MANx CAT BBS’ died after four years. That original classic bulletin board system spun-off ‘MANx ON THE NET’ which evolved into ‘MASSIVESMASH.COM‘ which inspired my MySpace blog of 2007 which morphed into this WordPress blog that you know and love right here.

Boots was my feline buddy and roommate, and I was a loyal and devoted Y-100 TOP 40 radio listener at home, at work, and in the car. Last Saturday night on the ‘Retro’ I presented Reunion’s “Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me)” from 34 years ago. Tonight for your ‘Retro’ review I present to you one of the biggest smash hits on the radio from 1997, and it’s kind of like a modern update to Reunion’s classic track from 1974. It’s “I Want You” – the debut smash from the multi-Platinum-selling Australian duo known as Savage Garden.

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

1.  Last Tuesday I mentioned that I ‘felt a real subtle hint of a possible 8TH cold in 12 months coming on’ that morning. For the past week I’ve been denying the mere existence of any such cold since I only had sporadic sinus and drainage problems in one specific location – my right nostril. Over the past couple of days it’s gotten worse, but I still refused to acknowledge it as my 8TH cold in 12 months. It’s sort of like that Tropical Wave in the Caribbean that looks impressive on radar but is not classified as an organized Tropical Depression. This morning I took a Zicam (RapidMelts with Vitamin C), and I instantly felt better. I took another one 3 hours later, and I felt even better. I just took another one, and I think that my cold is gone. As a result of these quick developments I do hereby declare that my 8TH cold in 12 months did actually occur, and it is now done and over with !

2.  Just like my cold that is now done and over with before I even acknowledged that it had even started in the first place it appears that our U.S. economy may actually be coming out of a recession right around the same time that it is officially announced that we were actually in a recession over the past 6 months. That’s the way that it always seems to work out. Americans find out that the recession is over as they find out that it actually existed. This just in – 9 out of 10 Americans don’t really know what a recession is even though they use the term loosely as a crutch to blame all of their personal problems on.

3.  According to my friend Ritz Kelly-Kel of 91.9-CALL-FM apparently talked about my ‘born-again’ story this morning on her radio show. The Call was the device that Jesus utilized to grab a hold of me and rescue me from the darkness 27 months ago on a random morning in August of 2006. If it weren’t for The Call then virtually all of you reading this blog would have never met me, and I would not be here today with this blog. One day I’m going to visit The Call and tell my story in-person on-the-air LIVE !

4.  Hace Fresco !  I’m liking this chilly air aqui en el Sur de Florida. This morning was our 2ND consecutive morning with actual air temperatures in the low-50s and wind-chills in the mid-40s. Tomorrow morning could be even colder with actual air temperatures dropping into the upper-40s and wind-chills in the low-40s. It’s a sneak-peek of what I can expect all next week north of Dallas Texas.

5.  Speaking of Dallas my Washington Redskins put on another embarrassing performance at night LIVE on national television for the second game in a row. Allow me to be blunt here. The Redskins are stinking up the joint right about now, and if they keep it up then they’ll be watching “Desperate Housewives” on TV on Sunday nights in January instead of celebrating a playoff victory. Let’s get it together team !  WIN ON 3 !  1-2-3-WIN !

Those are my thoughts right now. Thank You for sharing your time with me.

Saturday Night Retro

The month of November is chock-full of anniversaries for me. 28 years ago in 1980 me and my family moved from one side of Washington D.C. (Maryland) to the other side (Virginia). Our lives changed for the better on the opposite side of the Potomac River. 23 years ago in 1985 I moved out of the country for the first time ever courtesy of the USAF. That anniversary was actually last weekend. I flew from D.C. to London England, and then I took British Rail westward from London to Swindon. I took a taxi from Swindon to my new home at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. I did all of that just 5 months removed from my 18TH birthday.

I lived in the U.K. for some 105 fun-filled weeks. In fact this weekend is the 21ST anniversary of my departure from the U.K. – and U.S. homecoming. I would eventually arrive at – Homestead Florida !

I haven’t been back to the U.K. ever since I left, but you can bet that I will return some day for a visit. I enjoyed the time of my young life for two years over there, and I surely did ‘Live It Up’.

Here’s Australian super group Mental As Anything. They’ve been together for the past 32 years, and in 1985, 1986, and 1987 they scored the biggest worldwide pop smash of their entire career with this uplifting track that you may just remember from the ‘Crocodile Dundee’ movie. Check it out:
