Hockey Night In Texas

Welcome back to #TravelThursday. As I revealed in last week’s edition I recently spent 10 days with my family over in the Dallas Texas area. It was our annual #ThanksChristmasGiving – where we combine Thanksgiving and Christmas into one fun week (or longer). It’s been a family tradition for many years now, but this was likely the last one of its kind.

The highlight of this recent trip occurred at the American Airlines Center – a large sports and entertainment arena in downtown Dallas. It was built between 1999 and 2001, and I think I had been there before, but I can’t remember. Before returning to the Dallas Texas area in 2019 my family previously lived there from 2006 to 2013, so it would’ve been back then, and it would’ve been either a WWE event or an NHL game. Maybe I hadn’t been there before. The arena and the surrounding area looked new to me on this visit.

So me and my brother went there on Monday November 21ST 2022 to watch our Dallas Stars take-on the visiting Colorado Avalanche. It was a fun game. Texans know how to put on a hockey game. The pregame intro (audio, video, visuals) was unlike anything that I’d ever seen at a hockey game. It was quite the show before the show. I’ve been to quite a few NHL games over the past 30 years – far more than any other sports league. It’s my favorite sport to watch LIVE in person at the arena. (I think it’s actually quite boring to watch hockey on TV.)

The action on the rink was a lot of fun with the audience interaction (for both teams playing). Colorado had its fair share of fans in the stands. I also enjoyed the loud techno and rock and even country music (it’s Texas) in-between the action on the ice. I remarked to my brother that the deejay has to be really good and paying close attention to start a snippet of a new song at the precise second that the action stops, and then end the song at the precise second that the action restarts. His playlist has to be well over 100 songs – with no repeats !

The game ended in a 2-2 tie, so there was a 5-minute “sudden death” overtime with less players on the ice. Neither team scored. So a shootout occurred. Colorado won the shootout. End-of-game. Avalanche 3 Stars 2 (SO).

The announced attendance of the game was 18,532, and that’s also the capacity of the arena.

Next #TravelThursday I’ll count my steps. Let’s keep traveling together.

My Top 10 Hits – Week 303

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from the previous week. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back nearly 45 years. Here’s this week’s chart – for the week ending Sunday December 04TH 2022 – the 303RD week of this current era that began on Presidents’ Day Weekend of 2017:

TW LW WKS SONG TITLE ARTIST / SITE

7 4 16 New Creation Mac Powell
8 9 3 There Is Freedom Josh Baldwin
9 1 Heart Of God Zach Williams
10 1 I See Grace Micah Tyler

# 1 This Week In:

2020 – “Every Step Of The Way” – Cade Thompson
2019 – “Dead Man Walking” – Jeremy Camp
2018 – “Even Then” – Micah Tyler
2017 – “Control (Somehow You Want Me)” – Tenth Avenue North

CODY – Mr. Carnes is still at # 1 on my chart for the 4TH week in a row. “Ain’t Nobody” is my 14TH # 1 smash of 2022, and it’s my 7TH # 1 smash of 2022 to spend at least 4 weeks at the top. It’s also clinched a spot on “My Top 22 Of 2022” chart which I’ll present in just 4 weeks.

BEN – Mr. Fuller is still at # 2 for the 4TH week in a row. His former # 1 smash nationwide on U.S. Christian radio is a favorite of mine that I just don’t get to hear often enough, but when I do hear it – I listen intently and sing along to it. ♫ It’s who I am. I’m a child of the most-high God, and the most-high God’s for me. ♫

CADE – 2 years ago this week Mr. Thompson ascended to # 1 with his breakthrough smash “Every Step Of The Way”. It was his first of 12 weeks in a row at the top of my chart, and it’s actually the # 2 hit overall over the past 303 weeks. Here’s the official lyric video of this awesome positive pop jam.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again with the new weekend – and 4 new entries – known as #TravelThursday, #RetroFriday#SundayScripture, and #Top10Monday.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2007

Hello again retro music fans. Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 20, 25, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 1ST Friday of the month, so I go back 15 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday December 02ND 2007:

  1. “How It Feels (To Be With You)” – Eleventyseven
  2. “Staring At The Light” – The Wedding
  3. “Illuminate” – Project 86
  4. “The Minor Prophets” – Haste The Day
  5. “Game On” – Disciple

15 years ago this week Project 86 out of the “OC” – Orange County California – were in my Top 3 with the hard rockin’ “Illuminate”. It’s all about lighting up the darkness – the shadows of night that include wicked culture, dark deeds, mass inferno, covert crimes, closet portal – “your skeletons are burning eternal.”

Project 86 have been rockin’ for the past 26 years. They are currently working on their upcoming double studio album – “OMNI”. Back in the late-2000s they hit my chart with 7 radio songs – “Something We Can’t Be” (# 14 in 2006), “Evil (A Chorus Of Resistance)” (# 14 in 2007), “Illuminate” (# 2 in 2007), “Molotov” (# 8 in 2008), “Put Your Lips To The TV” (# 1 in 2008), “Dark Angel Dragnet” (# 12 in 2009), and “The Butcher” (# 15 in 2009).

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 20 years ago to December 2002. It’s when an old Dino song from 1954 became an #EDM house smash.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !

Here’s this week’s chart – for the week ending Sunday November 27TH 2022 – the 302ND week of this current era that began on Presidents’ Day Weekend of 2017:

2017 – “Different” – Micah Tyler

302 – It’s the 302ND week of this 3RD era of my long-running weekly music chart. The 301ST week was not published last Monday due to my very special look-back at my 30 biggest hits of the first 300 weeks of my chart. This is the propreantepenultimate chart of 2022 with 4 more to go during the month of December. On Monday January 02ND 2023 I’ll present “My Top 22 Of 2022”.

1 – This edition marks the 37TH anniversary of my very first published weekly music chart. Back in 1985 I put pen and pencil to loose-leaf notebook paper, and I wrote down my Top 20 hits of the week in a magazine format. “We Built This City” from Starship was my first # 1 smash. “Running Up That Hill” (originally titled “A Deal With God”) from Kate Bush was also on my first chart at #11. It’s enjoyed quite the resurgence in 2022. In fact it’s been a bigger worldwide smash this year than it was in 1985 ! #StrangerThings

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again with the new weekend – and 5 new entries – starting with a #SpecialWednesday blog post – followed by #TravelThursday, #RetroFriday#SundayScripture, and #Top10Monday.
