Welcome To My Blog

Greetings my friends. It’s Wednesday November 30TH 2022, and with this special edition I begin a new weekend of blog posts. It’s also the 15TH anniversary of my blogging here on the WordPress platform. (I moved over here from Myspace.)

Normally I publish new blog posts 4 times per weekend – on Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays at 0300 U.S. east coast time. (That’s 0800 in the United Kingdom and 0900 across much of Europe where many of you are reading this from.)

Each day has its own unique theme. My Thursday posts center on travel. My Friday posts center on retro music from years gone by. My Sunday posts center on Scripture and the Gospel. My Monday posts center on current Christian pop music. So my hashtags are #TravelThursday, #RetroFriday, #SundayScripture, and #Top10Monday.

A few times per year I publish occasional special posts on Tuesdays or Wednesdays (like today). It all adds up to over 200 blog posts per year. Each blog post is about a 2-to-4 minute read.

If you’re new here – then I welcome you to my blog. Thank You for checking it out. You may have clicked on my link on Facebook, Twitter, or Flickr. Perhaps Google or Feedspot sent you here awhile back, and you’ve been returning on a regular basis. Maybe you only read my posts on #TravelThursday, or you’re only interested in my Gospel messages on Sundays. Either way I’m glad you’re here. This is a no-judgement zone. This is also a political-free space online. There’s plenty of judgement and politics elsewhere. There’s a lot of hate in this world. I try to shine light and bring love into this world.

Feel free to comment with relevance on any post. You can also reach out to me on Twitter @ChrisMDay. Some of you have your own blogs that I check out on a regular basis. Keep doing what you do. Keep blogging alive !

I’ve been blogging since 2007, and really I was blogging for 14 years before that via my own dial-up bulletin board system (BBS) and its spinoffs on the early World Wide Web of the late-1990s into the early-2000s. It’s my favorite hobby online. But I can get too much of a good thing; hence, the typical 4-post-per-week schedule.

#TravelThursday is up next in less than 24 hours. I hope that you’ll check it out sometime during the day tomorrow.

My Top 10 Hits – Week 302

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from the previous week. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back nearly 45 years. Here’s this week’s chart – for the week ending Sunday November 27TH 2022 – the 302ND week of this current era that began on Presidents’ Day Weekend of 2017:

2018 – “Even Then” – Micah Tyler
2017 – “Different” – Micah Tyler

302 – It’s the 302ND week of this 3RD era of my long-running weekly music chart. The 301ST week was not published last Monday due to my very special look-back at my 30 biggest hits of the first 300 weeks of my chart. This is the propreantepenultimate chart of 2022 with 4 more to go during the month of December. On Monday January 02ND 2023 I’ll present “My Top 22 Of 2022”.

1 – This edition marks the 37TH anniversary of my very first published weekly music chart. Back in 1985 I put pen and pencil to loose-leaf notebook paper, and I wrote down my Top 20 hits of the week in a magazine format. “We Built This City” from Starship was my first # 1 smash. “Running Up That Hill” (originally titled “A Deal With God”) from Kate Bush was also on my first chart at #11. It’s enjoyed quite the resurgence in 2022. In fact it’s been a bigger worldwide smash this year than it was in 1985 ! #StrangerThings

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again with the new weekend – and 5 new entries – starting with a #SpecialWednesday blog post – followed by #TravelThursday, #RetroFriday#SundayScripture, and #Top10Monday.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May our God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday November 27TH 2022, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Let us love our neighbor as ourself.

It’s the first Sunday of Advent, and a common reading on this Sunday is the 122ND Psalm. I occasionally greet my church family with the first verse of that Psalm – I was glad when they said to me – “Let us go to the house of the LORD.” It’s an appropriate verse for me this morning especially, as I return to my church family after a week away. I’m looking forward to celebrating these next 6 Sundays with my church family – the 4 Sundays of Advent, Christmas Day, and New Years Day.

You know my church family also includes you. Some of you are loyal readers of #SundayScripture, and I appreciate you. I am honored to bring you God’s Good News each Sunday morning, and I hope that it is an inspiration for you to open the Bible and read it for yourself. In this 17TH year of salvation for me I am reading and studying the Bible more now than ever before. It goes where I go (via iPhone app).

After a one-week break last #SundayScripture I continue presenting my September 18TH 2022 sermon – “Good & Evil” – in its original written form. It’s based on 1 Peter 3:8-4:8, and it effectively wraps-up my First Peter message series which I began in 2021. Here’s Part 7:

You can’t repent your sins after your natural life here on earth is done. Those who didn’t know God – those who didn’t accept Him while they were still living and breathing in this world – that’s the end of it all for them. It’s too late for them.

But those who repented to Him, and those who were born again while they were still living and breathing – they will live forever with God in the Spirit.

My Dad passed on 12 years ago in 2010. He was never close to God. He didn’t really know God. He wasn’t really sure if He was real. But in his final days – on his death bed – in the hospital – consumed by the slow but deadly effects of Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS) – he finally acknowledged our God. He accepted our God into his heart. He repented to our God. He was born again – shortly before he passed on. It was not too late for my Dad. Now he’s living forever with God in the Spirit. I believe that he’s cheering me on today.

There you go again Chris – talking about repentance and salvation. Yeah – guilty. Eternity is at stake here. I want to live forever with God in the Spirit. I want you to live forever with God in the Spirit. I want everyone out there to live forever with God in the Spirit.

I’m reminded of Christ’s words – in red letters – as told by the Apostle John – when He predicted His death. He said “Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity. Anyone who wants to be My disciple must follow Me – because My servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves Me.” (John 12:25-26)

(End of Part 7)

If you wish to learn more about the God I know then stay tuned to #SundayScripture. The best is yet to come !

Thank you for reading my blog for this day, and may:

The LORD bless you, and keep you.
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1987

Hello again retro music fans. Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 20, 25, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 4TH Friday of the month, so I go back 35 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday November 29TH 1987:

  1. “Got My Mind Set On You” – George Harrison
  2. “Need You Tonight” – INXS
  3. “Hourglass” – Squeeze
  4. “True Faith” – New Order
  5. “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” – Belinda Carlisle

35 years ago this weekend I was enjoying the last of my 13 days with my family in Northern Virginia. I got to enjoy Thanksgiving with them for the first time in 3 years. (The previous two I was living and working in England.)

I was also being reintroduced to American Top 40 radio, and in the Washington D.C. area there was only one station at the time – All-Hit-105-WAVA. It was a Top 40 station for a little over 8 years starting near the end of 1983. (I actually didn’t listen to Top 40 radio back in 1983 into 1985.)

My music chart 35 years ago included British holdovers and American newcomers.

Former Go-Go Belinda Carlisle was one of those American newcomers. She scored a huge hit – in fact her biggest hit ever – with “Heaven Is A Place On Earth”. When I arrived home stateside it was in heavy rotation on WAVA, and MTV was playing it around the clock as well. It was brand-new to me. It was actually a hit here stateside before it broke-through overseas in the U.K. and European markets. It was also big in South Africa and Australia and New Zealand.

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 15 years ago to December 2007. It’s when a hard rock band from Southern California were lighting up my Top 3.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !
