Saturday Night Retro

I’m coming up on the 6TH anniversary of my current car – a 2003 Saturn Ion Quad Coupe 3. It’s all paid off now (as of a year ago), and it’s the first time that I’ve actually paid off a car of mine in over 15 years. I’ve owned this 3RD Saturn of mine almost as long as I owned my first two Saturns combined during the immediate 6 years and 2 months before I bought this current Saturn.

–> 6 years ago this June the average cost per gallon of gas was less than $1.50.

A lot has occurred and evolved in my life over the past 6 years. Back in June of 2003 I was working in a job that I didn’t really like with people that I didn’t really care for. All I really wanted was a way out of that bad situation, but I kept getting offered more money to stay.

I was heavily into the European trance, techno, and house music scene. If you couldn’t find me on a random Friday or Saturday night at home then perhaps I was 260 miles away up in the Orlando area partying on the dancefloors with crowds of fellow touristas. 6 years ago this June I was still more than 3 years away from the light of the day that God led me to. God knew me, but I didn’t know Him yet.

–> 6 years ago in 2003 my favourite radio station was WPYM Party-93.1 Miami.

Here’s one of the European trance jams that I was dancing in the dark to back then. It’s DJ Valentin and Vocalist Kristine Hendricks – better known collectively as the duo of QED. This is their # 1 club dance smash from exactly 6 years ago – a modern remake of Def Leppard‘s 1988 power-rock ballad “Love Bites”. Enjoy:

Thursday Night Mini Thoughts

– This is the weekly blog series that I look forward to the most.
– If I did this twice per week then I wouldn’t look forward to it as much.
– These are my spontaneous spur-of-the-moment thoughts right now.
– It takes you 3 seconds or less to read each thought.
– That’s why the’re called ‘Mini Thoughts’.
– I’ve got to be careful here because I could offend someone.
– Oh well what if I do ?
– I’m just being real.
– It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been on this journey following God.
– The devil is always working hard to win you back.
– He wants you to commit sins and rejoin the darkness of the world.
– If you take your heart and soul off of God then you lose.
– But once you’ve fallen it’s real easy to get back up again.
– God is the solution to every problem.
– If you don’t believe that then you just don’t get it.
– Maybe some day you will.
– Hopefully some day you will.
– God will patiently wait for you to come around.
– It’s never too late to stop wasting time and start chasing daylight.
– I didn’t proceed into the light until after my 39TH birthday.
– Ask me about my new Life over the past 1,000+ days.
– TOMORROW is my 24TH anniversary in the United States Air Force.
– There are people working on base that were born after I started working there.
– If you were born in 1993 then you can drive a car now.
– That totally frightens me to bits and pieces !
– Dallas Texas got SLAMMED by torrential rains, flooding, and wind damage.
– Some parts of Dallas got over a half a FOOT of rain today and last night.
– If my flight to DFW was this afternoon then I would have gone nowhere.
– Hundreds of flights in and out of DFW were cancelled today.
– Luckily I’m flying in to the Metroplex NEXT Thursday afternoon.
– I hope the weather is peaceful and quiet then – here and there.
– I received a funny joke today via E-Mail regarding Texas.
– I’ll post it as a ‘Saturday Morning Shenanigan’ this weekend.
– I might see “The Hangover” at the movie theatre this weekend.
– It’s a surprising runaway box office smash hit !
– I’ll probably be laughing all throughout the funny flick.
– I love to laugh.
– Laughing is healthy.
– If I’m laughing then all is good in my Life.
– And it is.

Thursday Night Mini Thoughts

– I went to work at 6 AM this morning.
– And I just got home about an hour ago (6:30 PM).
– But I didn’t just get home from work.
– I was at work for 10½ hours.
– 3 of those hours were inside a conference room giving briefings.
– I’m all talked out.
– My voice is hoarse of course of course.
– I don’t think I’ll speak again until … tomorrow morning at work.
– After 10½ hours at work I proceeded directly to Downtown Homestead.
– I met this good friend at this cool place.
– The White Lion Cafe is Homestead’s finest dining establishment – by far.
– I don’t care what Patricia and Venus say about it !
– Any meal out is a real treat for me.
– Eating food is one of my favourite hobbies.
– I could do it all day.
– But where does it all go ?
– It all goes in all of the normal spots, but I just hide it better than others.
– Bigger shirts help out.
– I’m too sexy for my shirt – too sexy for my shirt – so sexy it hurts.
– No not really – not even close.
– Don’t mind me I’m just full of … FOOD !
– So yeah tomorrow is Friday.
– I’ve got your ‘Blogroll Review’ planned for tomorrow night.
– I have a general idea of who will win this week’s ‘Major Bloggie’ award.
– But it’s not too late to get your considerations published on the interwebs.
– Blogging is my ministry.
– It’s my way of helping to expand God’s Kingdom.
– If I can lead one lost soul to God then it’s all worth it.
– I’ve already done that, but I’ll never be satisfied.

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

You know you want it:

1.  In just about a week Homestead has gone from brown and crunchy to green and lush. That’s what 10 inches of rain – over a foot in some areas – will do to the surrounding landscape. We are now right smack in the middle of a tropical rain forest. That’s why they call this ‘America’s Riviera’.

2.  I could use another three-day weekend like this past weekend. I used Saturday and Monday as my ‘stay-at-home’ / ‘get-caught-up’ days, and I used Sunday as my ‘play-outside-with-friends’ day. I enjoyed all three days in their own special ways. I’m thinking about repeating the scenario this weekend by taking Friday off. It all depends on my requirements at my workplace.

3.  Yesterday was Memorial Day – a day that we set aside each year to honour those who served, fought, and died defending our country and our freedom. Unfortunately in this new day and age our Armed Forces are not recognized and respected for the hard work that they do for us around the clock and around the world. Our military heroes should never ever be written off or forgotten.

4.  Say what you will about this recent Miami Herald article, but I think that the news of Homestead’s death has been greatly exaggerated. I strongly believe that she will recover rather nicely once the global recession eases and the full-blown economic expansion presses forward full blast. Thousands of people moved down here to Homestead from 2002 to 2007 for a reason, and they will resume their MASSIVE migration southwestward sooner rather than later. There are already signs that this is starting to occur. History has shown us over and over again that with each new recession the expansion that follows is bigger and stronger than any previous one before it.

5.  The month-long celebration that is my 42ND birthday continues for another couple of weeks. I’ve already celebrated it with my family over in North Texas, and now I hope to do the same with my friends and family here in Homestead. If you’re looking for that something special to treat me with for my very special day then you simply can’t go wrong with … FOOD !
