Saturday Night Retro

THIS WEEK I’m taking the ‘Retro’ straight back 25 years ago to the Summer of 1984 – right around my 17TH birthday. I had just finished my Junior year at Langley High School in McLean Virginia.

Here’s a happy me posing in my bedroom next to my brand new AM-FM stereo and cassette player / recorder and record player.

1984 Stereo

Here’s me playing on my very first computer – a Radio Shack TRS-80 Color Computer 2. My monitor – Channel 3 of our living room TV.

1984 Computer

Here’s me somewhere on a family vacation, and I’m looking out from some type of a tower up above the surrounding land. This could be an amusement park (such as Kings Dominion or Hershey Park).

… And back in the Summer of 1984 this was one of the hottest game shows on daytime television. It’s still a cult classic to this day.

BIG BUCKS … NO WHAMMIES … STOP !!!

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

It’s the longest-running episodic weekly series in the entire history of this blog:

1.  Friends – I don’t want the deadly swine flu. I don’t even want the ‘at-home-in-bed-sick’ swine flu. I’m just putting that out there for everyone. Please wash your hands thoroughly after you touch things. This personal health and hygiene message was provided to you as a public service by the ‘Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts’. The More You Know.

2.  An extended coworker recently stated that I remind him of Ernie Douglas from “My Three Sons“. Well that’s certainly a nice obscure reference from some 45 years ago !  The funniest thing about it is the fact that it was one of my favourite TV shows to watch as a kid of the 1970s.

3.  This season’s cycle of “The Celebrity Apprentice” on NBC-TV has been one of the most interesting, exciting, intriguing, suspenseful, and downright shocking seasons of any prime time reality show in television history. This has been one season where I refuse to record it for later viewing. I must watch it LIVE, and I must not be interrupted for anything whatsoever while it is on !

4.  I do not use Twitter, I do not know how to use Twitter, and I do not wish to learn how to use Twitter. This WordPress blog right here is as technologically-enhanced as I plan to get for the unforseeable future. If you wish to know what I’m doin’ or what’s goin’ on in my Life then feel free to read all about it right here. Although I post a lot of fun things on here during the week (filler material) this blog is also a ministry for me. It is how I disciple to the rest of the world. If you’re interested then stay tuned to what I have to share with you. If you’re not interested then check out other blogs that are out there on the interwebs.

5.  I’m hangin’ out with some good friends o’ mine at Homestead‘s White Lion Cafe tomorrow night. This just in. I love to eat ENORMOUS quantities of food !

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

Let’s kick it:

1.  Can you believe it ?  The ‘Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts’ quietly turned 18-months-old last week. Who would have thought back in October of 2007 that this would become a weekly Tuesday night tradition here on this blog ?  I mean – besides me.

2.  So yeah at like 11:10 AM this morning I was just a few minutes away from getting up from my desk at work and getting into my car to grab a bite to eat for Lunch – but then the telephone rang. Instead of ignoring it I decided to answer it. That telephone call led to another nearly two-hour long distance telephone call with the Air Force equivalent of ‘computer technical support’ to fix a problem on a local computer system that’s within my area of responsibility. Long story (sort of) short I ended up leaving work at 2 PM – 90 minutes early – going to Lunch – and then taking Lunch home with me. Lunch was delayed by some 3.5 hours today, but better late than never !

3.  As part of my 2009 Economic Stimulus Tour of Miami-Dade County tourist attractions I plan to visit Everglades National Park this upcoming Saturday. I haven’t been inside the park in such a long time (maybe 10 to 15 years). I plan to drive all the way to Flamingo and back and walk many of the half-mile trails along the way. (I need the exercise.) I’ll blog about it after the fact on a very special edition of ‘The Major’s Walk-A-Thon’.

4.  Another late-season cold front from the north made its passage through America’s Riviera this morning, and for a brief moment there it looked like funnel clouds were trying to develop northeast of the air base. Now we’re on the refreshing side of the cold front, and we could actually drop down into the upper-50s early tomorrow morning. Look for quite comfortable temperatures (daytime and nighttime) to continue for perhaps the next 7 days.

5.  Former President George W. Bush and Former Vice President Dick Cheney have been out-of-office, retired, and private citizens just like you and me for over 3 months now – yet you would think that they are still in office by the way that all of the late night television talk show hosts keep disrespecting them. That tells me that they are extremely (left-wing) biased – and afraid to rag on our current President and Vice President for fear that their Hollywood superstar guests would boycott them and call them racists for even attempting to make fun of the President. As it stands right now President Obama can do no wrong with the media by his side.

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

Going back to the last couple of months of 2007 Tuesday is the most-visited day of the week of this blog by a fairly substantial margin over the running average of the other six days of the week.

This weekly blog series is why that is so:

1.  I am so glad to be back at home again using a computer that actually works properly with the rest of the world (cyberspace). We had rolling Internet blackouts today at work. It affected some people more than other people. I couldn’t do much on my computer system at work from about 7:30 AM until the time that I left work this afternoon. Hopefully they will fix all of those problems between now and tomorrow morning. I have work to do at work !

2.  I would be very upset if my brand new A.C. condensing unit (outside) was not working properly. I am not upset at all. It works fabulously, and my home hasn’t felt this comfortably cool and dry in many years. I’m glad that I finally got that taken care of before the hot and humid summer season begins.

3.  A late-season cold front will sweep through America’s Riviera late tomorrow (Wednesday) night. This will mark the start of about 5 days and 5 nights of more bearable springtime weather with maximum daytime high temperatures right around the 80°F mark and minimum nighttime low temperatures in the refreshing low-to-mid-60s.

4.  Checkers may have wings, but the wings that I had from them last week were not big and meaty but rather tiny and tasteless. They were downright pitiful. The fries however was just as delicious as I remember them to be once upon a time ago when I used to go to Checkers every week for Lunch. The fried apple pies (2 for $1) were the absolute BOMBZ !  Nobody makes apple pies like that anymore !

5.  On Monday May 11TH 2009 U.S. postage climbs 2¢ to 44¢ for a typical first class letter of one ounce or less. 10 years ago in 1999 we were paying 33¢. 20 years ago in 1989 it was 25¢. 30 years ago in 1979 it was 15¢. 40 years ago in 1969 it was 6¢.

SPECIAL BONUS 6. !  This Thursday and Friday I plan to see two movies at the box office – “I Love You, Man” and “Adventureland“. I’ve been in a box office drought so far in 2009 having seen only one flick – “Slumdog Millionaire“. I need to catch up with my current movie viewing. I can’t watch everything via Netflix.

Those are my thoughts on this Tuesday night. Thank You for spending some quality time with me.
