The Fortune Cookie Message Of The Week Club

I went to Panda Express for a MASSIVE Lunch late this morning, and I enjoyed the chow mein, the orange chicken, the broccoli beef, the chicken egg roll, and the fountain soda (root beer). The food was fine – not spectacular – just fine.

DANNY – Take me to P.F. Chang’s the next time I’m in Allen Texas.

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

Let’s kick it:

1.  Can you believe it ?  The ‘Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts’ quietly turned 18-months-old last week. Who would have thought back in October of 2007 that this would become a weekly Tuesday night tradition here on this blog ?  I mean – besides me.

2.  So yeah at like 11:10 AM this morning I was just a few minutes away from getting up from my desk at work and getting into my car to grab a bite to eat for Lunch – but then the telephone rang. Instead of ignoring it I decided to answer it. That telephone call led to another nearly two-hour long distance telephone call with the Air Force equivalent of ‘computer technical support’ to fix a problem on a local computer system that’s within my area of responsibility. Long story (sort of) short I ended up leaving work at 2 PM – 90 minutes early – going to Lunch – and then taking Lunch home with me. Lunch was delayed by some 3.5 hours today, but better late than never !

3.  As part of my 2009 Economic Stimulus Tour of Miami-Dade County tourist attractions I plan to visit Everglades National Park this upcoming Saturday. I haven’t been inside the park in such a long time (maybe 10 to 15 years). I plan to drive all the way to Flamingo and back and walk many of the half-mile trails along the way. (I need the exercise.) I’ll blog about it after the fact on a very special edition of ‘The Major’s Walk-A-Thon’.

4.  Another late-season cold front from the north made its passage through America’s Riviera this morning, and for a brief moment there it looked like funnel clouds were trying to develop northeast of the air base. Now we’re on the refreshing side of the cold front, and we could actually drop down into the upper-50s early tomorrow morning. Look for quite comfortable temperatures (daytime and nighttime) to continue for perhaps the next 7 days.

5.  Former President George W. Bush and Former Vice President Dick Cheney have been out-of-office, retired, and private citizens just like you and me for over 3 months now – yet you would think that they are still in office by the way that all of the late night television talk show hosts keep disrespecting them. That tells me that they are extremely (left-wing) biased – and afraid to rag on our current President and Vice President for fear that their Hollywood superstar guests would boycott them and call them racists for even attempting to make fun of the President. As it stands right now President Obama can do no wrong with the media by his side.

Saturday Morning Shenanigans

These are actually my ‘Friday Night Shenanigans’, but since I didn’t even get back home until about 12:40 AM this morning it’s all good. I actually slept in this morning until nearly 8:30 AM – about 4 hours later than normal. Patricia, Venus, and Carol kept me up and out and about until past MIDNIGHT !

I’m looking at my Shops At Sunset Place parking receipt that shows me arriving there at 4:17 PM on Friday afternoon and departing at 12:14 AM on Saturday morning (3 minutes shy of 8 hours). I only paid $6, but that included a MASSIVE discount courtesy of the AMC-24 Theatres. I saw “Adventureland” last night. Good flick about the life and times of various employees of a rundown low budget amusement park in the Pittsburgh suburbs of the Summer of 1987. It was light on comedy, as it played out more like a classic episode of “Dawson’s Creek“. I got what I expected out of it – a high-quality 4.0 star movie that was well worth my time watching it.

After the flick (and a bit of shopping) at my former playground (which is definitely showing its age after a decade) I met up with the fun girls of Patricia, Venus, and Carol at Splitsville. In a nutshell we ate ENORMOUS quantities of food and cracked each other up severely. Maybe Venus will post some of those pictures up on her long-neglected blog. If not then I may grab a few of them myself and post them up on here for all of you cats to see. After that we actually bowled 10 rounds. After Venus reminded me on the proper way to hold a bowling ball and then release it down the lane I proceeded to stage a come-from-behind victory over all three of the girls. My final score was a ’90’, and that was well enough for the victory. This just in – I’ve only bowled perhaps 5 times in my entire life. It’s just one of those things that comes naturally to me once I get going with it. I’m also pretty good at Wii Bowling. My brother showed me how to play that one day last year, and that same day I was suddenly better at it than him and his wife !

Well those are my ‘Shenanigans’ from last night. I had a fun Friday night out on the town at one of my all-time favourite shopping complexes here in America’s Riviera with a few of my favourite people on this journey. Here’s hoping that we can do it all over again real soon !

Later tonight I’ve got a totally rippin’ jam that absolutely defined the Miami urban music scene of 1988. It got everyone of all colors and creeds out together dancing in the streets in unison. Be sure to check it out on a hot new ‘Saturday Night Retro’. You won’t regret it dudes.

Homestead Pavilion

I’m still trying to find out through all of my various resources the official (or even unofficial) grand opening dates for both Olive Garden and Longhorn Steakhouse. It’s been fun watching these two restaurants be built from the ground up since the latter part of last year. It’s as if the’re racing against each other. I’m so looking forward to eating at both of these fine dining establishments in just a few short months. Look for me there on most Sunday afternoons after Life Pointe Church.

FINALLY – I can now confirm that Red Lobster is indeed coming to the Homestead Pavilion, and it will be physically located right at the southwest corner of the property (closest to the traffic light and intersection with Campbell Drive and SE 23RD Ave. / SW 157TH Ave). Look for groundbreaking to occur on the 7,137 square foot joint later this year.

Olive Garden, Longhorn Steakhouse, and Red Lobster are all owned and operated by the same parent corporation – Darden Restaurants.
