Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

If a Tuesday night ever goes by without me posting my ‘Grab Bag O’ Thoughts’ with no advance explanation whatsoever then please call the cops because something bad must have happened to me !

1.  For the first time since the mid-1980s I am NOT watching “The Tonight Show” on NBC-TV. Johnny Carson was the King of Late Night, and Jay Leno followed-up admirably for 17 years. I rarely missed a show (on tape). I am NOT a fan of Conan O’Brien. Nothing personal. I just don’t like his unique style of comedy. I’ll be awaiting “The Jay Leno Show” weeknights this Fall at 10 PM.

2.  “I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here !“, and I’m so addicted – all over again !   I was actually one of the few fans of the original 2003 ABC-TV incarnation of the show, and here we go again in 2009 with more D-List celebrities out in the jungle again. I reserve the right to remain silent regarding my opinions on apparent Christians Heidi and Spencer.

3.  Dude the “Ice Road Truckers” are back in action on History, and my Sunday nights this Summer are now so totally complete. It’s the most riveting one-hour of television for me every single week. It’s my adrenaline rush on a Sunday night, and it’s probably the last thing I need right before I go to sleep prior to the start of another new work week.

4.  Homestead Air Reserve Base received 13.01 inches of rain during the second-half of May. That’s more rain than the base received combined during the 7½ months prior to that going back to the start of last October. As it turns out it was one of the wettest Mays in modern recorded history. What a wild way to end one of the dryest of dry seasons in modern recorded history.

5.  My extended 87-hour 42ND birthday celebration weekend commences in less than 48 hours this Thursday afternoon at 1530 local. That’s 3:30 PM to those of you non-military types (2:30 PM Central / 1:30 PM Mountain / 12:30 PM Pacific). I’ve got what is expected to be a totally crammed weekend of events that are now piled up high just as soon as the long weekend begins for me. But even that is no excuse to abandon my blogging ministry, so be sure to stick around and watch what happens !  You won’t regret it pal.

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

You know you want it:

1.  In just about a week Homestead has gone from brown and crunchy to green and lush. That’s what 10 inches of rain – over a foot in some areas – will do to the surrounding landscape. We are now right smack in the middle of a tropical rain forest. That’s why they call this ‘America’s Riviera’.

2.  I could use another three-day weekend like this past weekend. I used Saturday and Monday as my ‘stay-at-home’ / ‘get-caught-up’ days, and I used Sunday as my ‘play-outside-with-friends’ day. I enjoyed all three days in their own special ways. I’m thinking about repeating the scenario this weekend by taking Friday off. It all depends on my requirements at my workplace.

3.  Yesterday was Memorial Day – a day that we set aside each year to honour those who served, fought, and died defending our country and our freedom. Unfortunately in this new day and age our Armed Forces are not recognized and respected for the hard work that they do for us around the clock and around the world. Our military heroes should never ever be written off or forgotten.

4.  Say what you will about this recent Miami Herald article, but I think that the news of Homestead’s death has been greatly exaggerated. I strongly believe that she will recover rather nicely once the global recession eases and the full-blown economic expansion presses forward full blast. Thousands of people moved down here to Homestead from 2002 to 2007 for a reason, and they will resume their MASSIVE migration southwestward sooner rather than later. There are already signs that this is starting to occur. History has shown us over and over again that with each new recession the expansion that follows is bigger and stronger than any previous one before it.

5.  The month-long celebration that is my 42ND birthday continues for another couple of weeks. I’ve already celebrated it with my family over in North Texas, and now I hope to do the same with my friends and family here in Homestead. If you’re looking for that something special to treat me with for my very special day then you simply can’t go wrong with … FOOD !

Thursday Night Mini Thoughts

– I always look forward to blogging on a Thursday night.
– That’s because this is one of my favourite weekly series.
– OK – It’s my favourite of them all.
– I have no idea what I’m gonna type on here until I actually do it.
– This is as spur-of-the-moment spontaneous as it can possibly get with me.
– “Judge Judy” just came on (at 4 PM EDT).
– An afternoon is not for real until I’ve had my hour-long dose of Judy.
– They don’t keep her around there because she’s gorgeous.
– They keep her around there because she’s SMART !!!
– The devil has been working overtime at my workplace all this week.
– He’s been making my Life miserable at work.
– But he started to retreat big-time during the day today.
– That’s because God gave me some stronger armour to wear.
– Ephesians 6:10-20 – I could (and should) read that every single day.
– If reading about God makes you uncomfortable then you don’t know Him.
– You should get to know Him.
– He can change your Life.
– I’m looking forward to the long Memorial Day holiday weekend.
– It all starts in less than 24 hours dude.
– I’ve decided to take a week off from serving at Life Pointe Church.
– I’m coming in late, and I’m attending the 10:30 AM service.
– Later on Sunday I plan to drive down to The Keys.
– I’m attending the 6 PM service at the Plantation Key campus.
– I’ve heard a lot of great things about this campus.
– I need to check them all out for myself.
– I also want my Tom Little update of the month.
Homestead ARB has recorded 4.55 inches of rain over the past 5 days.
– Last week I boldly forecasted 4 to 8 inches of rain for this week.
– It looks like I so totally nailed this weather forecast.
– I do my best weather forecasting work during the rainy season.
– And I do it for free.
– I adore this picture of my first cat Fluffy:

Fluffy The Manx Cat - Late-1987
Fluffy The Manx Cat - Late-1987

– That doggie pillow still exists today on one of my living room couches.
– It’s much more faded now.
– Fluffy inspired ‘MANx CAT BBS’ – born on this day in 1993.
– That BBS is the Godmother of this blog.
– And those – my friends – are my mini thoughts on this here Thursday night.
– Keep it real dudes and dudettes.
– I’ll check you cats out this weekend.

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

Let’s do this thing:

1.  Homestead‘s LongHorn Steakhouse is now open for business, and I’ll start with the Crispy Chicken Trio. After that I’ll have the 9-ounce Flo’s Filet (medium well) with sweet potato with cinnamon and butter. For dessert I’ll partake in the Golden Nugget Fried Cheesecake. Who’s feelin’ what I’m feelin’ ?

2.  The 18TH season finale of “Survivor: Tocantins” this past Sunday night was one of the best in the entire history of the series. I was so rooting for J.T. to win it all – and he did. When Jeff Probst revealed that 4TH vote declaring him the winner I totally jumped for joy right there in my living room. The best man won, and looking back in hindsight he was by far the best player during the course of the game.

3.  I keep hearing me on the radio – morning, afternoon, evening, and late night. To be completely honest with everyone I am NOT tired of hearing myself talk on The CALL. I will never get tired of hearing me tell my testimonial to the world on how God rescued and saved me from the evil and darkness of my previous life. God saved me, and I am now reborn to Him. He can save you too – if you would just let Him. If you appreciate the life-changing work that The CALL is doing for God then THANK them by supporting them financially.

4.  Last week I boldly forecasted 4 to 8 inches of rain this week. This just in. We’re almost there – at least most of us are. Over the past 3 days the immediate Homestead area has actually received the least amount of rain up and down the east coast of Florida, but we’re certainly catching up this afternoon. Let it rain !

5.  This blog’s origins actually go back 16 years ago this week to May 21ST 1993. That’s when I created ‘MANx CAT BBS’ – a classic computer bulletin board system. It was during a wild pre-web era in which such relics of MS-DOS 6.0 and Windows 3.1 ruled the telephone lines and the 14.4 and the 28.8 modems of yesteryear. ‘MANx CAT BBS’ spun-off ‘MANx On The Net’ which evolved into the popular hit music web site that was ‘MASSIVESMASH.COM‘ which spun-off this blog (first on MySpace and then here on WordPress).

Those are my thoughts on this Tuesday night. I thank you for reading them.
