Life Pointe Church Sunday Morning Tossed Salad

Here are my takeaways from this morning’s Life Pointe Church experience:

– There were members of the Johnson family everywhere you looked !
– Travis and Kelly have finally returned from their European vacation.
– Travis and Kelly appreciate the United States Of America more than ever before.
– Travis had the utter audacity to wear a cowboy hat in Paris France !
– He also apparently bragged to the Europeans that he lives in Miami Florida.
– Welcome Home Travis and Kelly !
– This week we kicked-off a fresh new message series based on the Book of Joel.
– It’s an obscure Book out of the Old Testament – written some 2,800 years ago.
– It’s one of the 12 Minor Prophets.
– It’s got some low lows – and some high highs.
– Never forget where you came from – no matter how evil and dark it was.
– Tell that devastating story of when you hit rock-bottom.
– Then tell that joyful story of how God rescued and saved you.
– I’m not so sure that I’d be alive today if God hadn’t saved me 35 months ago.
– Thank You Lord Jesus Christ for blessing me, my family, and my friends.

Saturday Night Retro

1999 was a long time ago. It was a decade ago. It was an eternity ago – especially for me in light of my life-changing events of the past 36 months alone.

Back in 1999 on the home technology front I had standard cable television (with Adelphia), standard telephone service (with BellSouth), and standard dial-up Internet service (with Shadow). None of those companies exist today. Nowadays AT&T U-verse delivers all of the modern technology to me.

I had to deal with an untimely and unexpected 15½-hour total outage of my television, telephone, and Internet service from early last night until late this morning. AT&T came out this morning and fixed the problem (outside), and now I’m back in 2009 with all systems a go-go. During the outage my only technological link to the outside world was (believe it or not) my antique cell phone with T-Mobile service. It actually came in quite handy, and it reminded me why I actually have a cell phone in the first place – for emergency situations and pretty much nothing else.

Exactly 10 years ago this weekend the cool pop group known as LFO (Lyte Funky Ones) debuted on the MASSIVESMASH.COM Weekly Top 40 at # 30. They went on to hit # 1 for 2 weeks, spend 19 weeks on the chart, and become the # 17 hit of the entire year. Nationally it was a U.S. Top 3 platinum smash at retail and pop radio. Rich, Devin, and Brad have recently reunited as LFO again recording and touring the nation, but here’s how they rolled back during the Summer of 1999. It’s all about them “Summergirls”:

The Major’s Friday Night Disco Party

We sure knew how to party back in 1976 – the year of our U.S. Bicentennial. We turned 200 on July 04TH of that year, but we didn’t look a day over 175 !

Disco music was still growing up during the Summer of 1976, and 26-year-old Memphis Tennessee Radio Deejay Rick Dees (one of my personal all-time ‘American Idols’) decided that the time was right to gather his ‘Cast Of Idiots’ together in a recording studio and lay down that track all about that ‘Disco Duck’. It went on to become a U.S. # 1 platinum retail and pop radio smash later that year, and the whole nation was quacking up a storm out on the dance floors.

So you think you can dance the duck ?  Give it a shot !

Thursday Night Mini Thoughts

– I got home from work shortly after 3 PM this afternoon.
– That’s nearly 6 hours earlier than yesterday’s ‘get-home’ time.
– That’s right – I didn’t get home from work until nearly 9 PM last night.
– I should actually clarify that a bit.
– Not that I really need to, but because I want to.
– I physically worked (mostly at my desk) from 6 AM to 6 PM.
– After that me and my supervisour took our out-of-town guests to dinner.
– Dinner was at Los Ranchos up at The Falls.
– Los Ranchos can be reached on the web at beststeakinmiami.com.
– I don’t know about that ‘best steak in Miami’ claim, but it was pretty good.
– I enjoyed the ‘Churrasco Los Ranchos’.
– That’s a 12-ounce juicy and flavourful center-cut charbroiled tenderloin.
– En Español – Jugoso y tierno corte del centro de filete tender.
– I played hooky from Life Group last night.
– Actually it was an excused absence, as I notified Patricia in advance.
– I’ll be back at Life Group next Wednesday night.
– I received my bill in the mail today for the wind insurance for my home.
– $956.10 for 12 months of coverage – up a mere $7 from last year.
– That’s roughly $2.62 per day.
– The check’s in the mail.
– Next up – the other half of my annual homeowner’s insurance premium.
– Last year it was $754.00.
– I’m anxious to see if that only goes up by a mere $7.
– Well those are my ‘Mini Thoughts’ for this Thursday night afternoon.
– Be sure to catch the ‘Disco Party’ tomorrow night here on the polyester blog.
– Tomorrow night’s edition may quack you up.
– Until then keep it real home skillets.
– Say good night Gracie.
