Saturday Morning Shenanigans

This morning I visited the often-rumoured-to-go-out-of-business Lowe’s in Homestead for the first time ever, and I took a nearly hour-long grande tour-de-farce of the not-so-jumpin’ joint. It was essentially me walking around the warehouse and spending money in my mind on various home improvements. In my mind I had all-new bathroom sink faucets purchased and professionally installed as well as a couple of ceiling fans. I even had a new front door !  Maybe some day in the not too distant future I’ll actually do that for real !

(I actually did buy nearly $60 in merchandise including sales tax.)

This week’s Shenanigan of note actually occurred early yesterday afternoon when my longtime plumber (company) arrived to remove and replace my 10-year-old kitchen sink garbage disposal that totally stopped working and made no sound whatsoever for the past couple of months. He also came to bring my longtime malfunctioning guest toilet back to life. The toilet – he actually fixed that genuine problem. It works fine now, and I’m using it on a regular basis.

But before he did that he repaired my non-working garbage disposal – by dumping and jamming a whole bunch of ice cubes in it !  He had it working again in less than 60 seconds !  He said that it was simply jammed up, and that ice cubes generally does the trick. I felt stupid that he was able to bring a non-working garbage disposal with no sound back to life louder and prouder than ever before within a mere New York minute !

Now THAT’S what I call a true Shenanigan !  Be sure to check back here on future Saturday mornings as I reveal how dumb I really am when it comes to fixin’ things.

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

It’s the continuing saga that is my weekly ‘Grab Bag O’ Thoughts’:

1.  Today was an unusually peaceful and quiet day at work. It nearly got boring for me at times. I could have taken a short nap. No not really, but I was actually hoping for some excitement or controversy during the course of the work day today. I got just a little bit of that, but I could have handled even more.

2.  After work this afternoon I ventured over to Homestead‘s fresh new Bed Bath & Beyond for the first time ever. It’s one of my favourite stores in the entire world. Once upon a time no weekend visit to The Shops At Sunset Place in South Miami was complete without a well-orchestrated stop at the Bed Bath & Beyond at Dadeland Station in Downtown Kendall. I could have spent a hundred or so dollars at that joint this afternoon, but I spent a tiny fraction of that instead on a few key items. I may have to return back to the scene of the crime in a few days to take another round-robin tour. YOU KNOW IT !

3.  My nearly year-long search for a new Family Practice Doctor here in the local Homestead area is winding down, and I think that I’ve finally got one selected. My next step is to actually schedule a complete physical with the M.D. (Medical Dude). I hope to do that before the close of this week. My new Doctor will tell me if Lipitor is right for me. I’ve been without it for nearly a year now, and I’m still alive !

4.  I’ve recently discovered JCTV on my AT&T U-verse. It’s just like MTV from about 15 to 20 years ago with lots of music videos shown through the day and into the night and a few shows programmed around the hour-long video blocks. The ‘JC’ in JCTV stands for Jesus Christ, and it’s all about Him. They too (like The Call on the radio) gear all of their content and programming towards the teen and young adult crowd as if there just aren’t any older adults that are closer to my age that need to be rescued and saved by God and ministered to. I knew my blog had a real purpose. This is the purpose driven blog.

5.  This blog will record its remarkable 200,000TH hit (since its inception in 2007) this Thursday night. Thank You everyone for continuing to support this blog by checking it out, reading it, commenting on it, discussing it, and telling all of your friends about it. I do it all for you. It’s a sincere pleasure to be able to share my new Life with each and every one of you. I thank you for sharing your Life with me.

Thursday Night Mini Thoughts

It’s time for the most spontaneous blog series of the week:

– My work week is done and over with.
– My extended 87-hour 4TH of July holiday weekend has begun.
– Next week will be a long and hectic work week for me.
– I’m actually looking forward to the intense action and excitement.
– Tomorrow afternoon I have a 4 to 6 hour appointment here at home.
– It’s with AT&T, and they will be here to install U-Verse in my home.
– I’m dropping Comcast just as soon as AT&T gets my TV and Internet up.
– Comcast has been my TV and Internet provider for nearly 3 years.
– They took over when Adelphia went away in October 2006.
– I’m looking forward to the new TV technology here in my home.
– I’ll be learning how to use all of my new equipment for the rest of the weekend.
– It’ll take me all weekend to check out my 220 or so digital channels.
– I went to Publix on my way home from work this afternoon.
– Publix is my playground.
– I’m happy and I know it, so I clap my hands – at Publix.
– It has a lot to do with the loud hit music that they play all throughout the joint.
– But really – it’s the food that’s screaming at me to buy it.
– I hear voices from both sides of the aisles – “BUY ME !!!
– Be sure to hit up this blog tomorrow night for something new that’s old.
– It’s the series premiere of ‘The Major’s Friday Night Disco Party’.
– I’ll kick it off with one of the greatest disco music anthems of the time.
– Feel free to wear your favourite leisure suit to the party.
– You won’t regret it pal.
– But until then – REMEMBER THIS:

Saturday Morning Shenanigans

Good Morning my friends !  It’s just about 6:30 AM CDT as I begin composing this blog entry – that’s 7:30 AM EDT for those of you along the vast Eastern Seaboard.

Since Thursday afternoon I’ve been livin’, eatin’, and playin’ here in the northeastern corridor of Suburban Dallas Texas – the affluent cities of Allen, Fairview, and McKinney.

Much of yesterday me, my Brother, his wife, and our Mom played “Million Dollar Password“. We kept giving each other one-word clues in an attempt to figure out what the password was that we were trying to describe. I recommend that we play this game at our next Life Group fellowship !  Last night we picked up Taboo, so we’ll be playing that tonight. That’ll be lots of fun, and I have lots of experience with that game !  Good Times !

Yesterday morning me and my brother went on an approximate 8 to 9 mile bicycle ride for about an hour all throughout the neighbourhoods, parks, and streets of northeastern Allen Texas. It’s possibly the first time that I’ve been on a bicycle ride in over 21 years since 1988 when my bicycle at the time was my only form of personal transportation. (That was the year before I bought my very first new car in South Florida.)

3 MASSIVE MEALS thus far since I’ve been here. Match the restaurant in the first group with what my main course was in the second group with the day and the meal that I enjoyed it on in the third group:

RESTAURANT:
1.  Saltgrass Steak House
2.  Scotty P’s Hamburgers
3.  Brio Tuscan Grille

MAIN COURSE:
A.  Original Hamburger, Sweet Potato Fries, Coke
B.  Chicken Milanese Pomodoro, Caesar Salad, Sierra Mist
C.  Pat’s Ribeye, Broccoli Cheese Au Gratin, Caesar Salad, Peach Tea

DAY & MEAL
I.  Friday Dinner
II.  Thursday Dinner
III.  Friday Lunch

I’ll reveal the correct answers in a future blog entry. Be sure to catch a fresh new ‘Saturday Night Retro’ tonight, but FIRST – REMEMBER THIS !
