The Fortune Cookie Message Of The Week Club

TODAY I went to my friendly workplace neighbourhood Chinese Food joint – Shanghai – to pick-up my usual paraphernalia – chicken with broccoli with pork fried rice and an egg roll. As usual it was ready within ’10 minute’. Oh yeah – and it was hot and delicious !

As a regular customer my dealer at Shanghai enabled me with 3 Fortune Cookies, so I present to you a ‘Triple Trifecta’ this week:

– ‘Wealth is the ability to fully experience Life.’

– ‘Welcome each day as a fresh new beginning.’

– You will always be successful in your professional career.’

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

1.  After a rare one-week hiatus the legendary ‘Grab Bag’ is back with an all-new edition. Last Tuesday night at this time I was at sea in the Florida Straits a few hours southwest of Key West on my way to Cozumel Mexico aboard the Fun Ship Carnival Imagination. In case you missed it I blogged my ‘Carnival Imagination Grab Bag O’ Thoughts‘ last Friday night.

2.  I enjoyed a 231-hour vacation from the mid-afternoon of Friday September 04TH through the early-morning of Monday September 14TH. That’s about 69 hours before the cruise, 92 hours on the cruise, and 70 hours after the cruise. My cruise was virtually smack in the middle of my extended vacation bookended by dual three-day weekends. It’s crazy how those numbers worked out that way !

3.  I watched and enjoyed the series premiere of ‘The Jay Leno Show‘ last night, and so did a lot of you. It was a runaway smash in the ratings. I’ll be DVRing it tonight because I’ll be watching the LIVE season finale of ‘Big Brother 11‘ tonight. This was the most successful season ever as far as viewership is concerned. I will definitely miss it during the off-season.

4.  My beloved Washington Redskins are in familiar territory – dead last in the rough and tough NFC East division. They lost their season opener to the Giants of New Jersey 23-17, but the game really wasn’t as close as the final score. I’m thinking that my ‘Skins should have an easier time this Sunday afternoon in their home opener against the lowly Rams. They are favoured by 10 points with an over / under of 36.5, so that equates to (roughly) a 23-13 win. I’d rather see a blowout such as 42-3.

5.  We’re about a month away from seeing cold fronts reach and sweep through America’s Riviera on a regular basis. Those frontal systems from the north and west will drop our humidity and temperature ever so slowly. It’ll be an El Niño winter, so don’t look for the unusually frigid and bone dry winter season that we went through late last year / early this year. Look for a wetter and milder than normal ‘dry’ season. Last season we had between 15 and 20 mornings that started in the 30s and 40s. I’m forecasting less than 10 of those such mornings for the upcoming winter season.

The Major’s Tweets

Can you believe that Twitter has only been around for about 42 months now ?  It’s gone from a simple experimental side project to one of the most utilized web sites in the entire world. It’s clearly one of the greatest technological inventions / inceptions of the past 3 years.

This week I present to you a series of my personal tweets from last week while I was on the Fun Ship Carnival Imagination. They are listed in chronological order:

– On board the Carnival Imagination at 12:18 PM. Now touring my new home for this week. PARADISE !  [12:59 PM Sep 7th from Junkyard Dog]

– It’s hot and steamy in Key West, so it MUST be September. [11:23 AM Sep 8th from Junkyard Dog]

– Relaxing back on the ship now. Next stop – Cozumel. Adios cell phone and Twitter mutants until Fri. Peace – Out !  [12:51 PM Sep 8th from Junkyard Dog]

– Sailing in to the Miami skyline at 7 AM. Still an hour away from the Port. Miami looks beautiful from offshore !  [7:03 AM Sep 11th from Junkyard Dog]

– The sun is rising over Miami. Thank You God for this glorious new day on this journey. [7:09 AM Sep 11th from Junkyard Dog]

– 8:39 AM – Walked off the Carnival Imagination / 9:49 AM – Walked in to my home. Now doing laundry and watching TV. Oh yeah. Back to reality. [10:51 AM Sep 11th from twitter.com]

No tweets were done on September 09th and 10th. That’s because I was out of the country with no cell phone service (AKA ‘Junkyard Dog’).

Follow me @majorhitwaves.

Until I tweet again … REMEMBER THIS !

Life Pointe Church Sunday Morning Tossed Salad

– This morning I returned to Life Pointe Church following a two-week hiatus.
– I pulled off along the side of the road that is this journey to take a breather.
– Now I’m back on the main highway.
– I’m not quite at full cruising speed yet, but I’ll get there.
– It just felt totally right to be back in the action this morning.
– We had a special guest speaker lead our services this morning.
– He’s Pastor Nick Park of The Solid Rock Church in Drogheda, Co. Louth, Ireland.
– He’s been there since its creation 15 years ago in 1994.
– He was saved 13 years before that in 1981.
– He was previously a suicidal homeless drunk.
– God rescued him and pulled him out of the world of evil and darkness.
– There is a great cloud of witnesses that are cheering us on.
– The vast communion of saints are applauding.
– Now is not the time to turn on, tune in, and drop out.
– Don’t be a seasonal follower of God and then give up and run away.
– When the going gets tough – the tough get going – to God !
– There are sins that live within each and every one of us.
– None of us is pure.
– Don’t feed that sin, or it could overwhelm you.
– Starve that sin so that you don’t backslide to where you came from.
– Keep the faith.

Hebrews 11:36-40 (NLT, 2ND Ed.)
36  Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons.
37  Some died by stoning, some were sawed in half, and others were killed with the sword. Some went about wearing skins of sheep and goats, destitute and oppressed and mistreated.
38  They were too good for this world, wandering over deserts and mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground.
39  All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised.
40  For God had something better in mind for us, so that they would not reach perfection without us.
