– It was another glorious Thursday at work.
– I got in shortly after 6 AM, and I left at around 3:45 PM.
– That made it a slightly longer than normal work day.
– Despite the glory of this work day I still had to deal with a couple of evildoers.
– Life isn’t perfect, but it’s what you make of it that determines your journey.
– My electric bill for July was over 39% higher than it was for June.
– That’s because it was mostly sunny, hot, and dry in July.
– My HVAC worked harder in July than it did in June when it rained a lot.
– I Love Lucy – Happy Birthday – She would have been 98 today !
– Once upon a time I used to drink a lot of Coca Cola Classic.
– The only way to drink it is straight out of the classic red can.
– I think I’m down to perhaps 3 cans a week.
– I’m drinking one right now, so that’s a treat.
– I’m anxious to find out the results of my blood work come Monday morning.
– How’s my cholesterol ?
– Is Lipitor right for me ?
– I believe that I’m healthier today than I have been in my entire life.
– That’s because I’ve given up virtually everything that’s bad for me.
– For example I stopped drinking in 2007.
– I have no intentions of drinking anything alcoholic ever again.
– Are you ready for something even more shocking ?
– Get ready for this one, for it’s a doozy.
– Here’s an exclusive for those of you who still read my blog.
– I smoked cigarettes for about 30 years.
– Betcha didn’t know that !
– I quit for good exactly 472 days ago (15½ months ago).
– There’s something to talk about for the next couple of weeks.
– I nearly got weak this past week.
– NO – I didn’t nearly smoke.
– I nearly signed-up for Twitter.
– Facebook is the evil empire – no doubt about it.
– But I can actually see how Twitter may possibly enhance my web time.
– OK I’ve returned back to my senses now.
– Twitter is a waste of time as well.
– Well maybe not a total waste of time.
– I’ll leave the Twitter door slightly ajar for now.
– Be sure to catch my ‘Disco Party’ tomorrow night here on the groovy blog.
– I’ve got a classic in the true sense of the word.
– You may be mildly surprised as to my selection for this week.
– Be sure not to miss the fun.
– You won’t regret it pal.
Month: August 2009
One of the hottest Christian Rock songs in the entire free nation is the latest radio single from Abandon entitled “Be Alive In Me”. There is no music video for it, so you won’t see one this week. But the lyrics are so powerful and amazing that I wanted to capture them here:
Here I am without a place to start.
Lost inside the desert of my heart.
All of my mistakes are adding up.
Take them all away I’ve had enough.
Heal my jaded soul.
I want to feel the weight letting go.
[CHORUS]
Be alive in me I know I’m – I’m Yours forever.
Be alive in me I know I’m – I’m Yours.
So take me and shake me I know I’m needing You to
Be alive in me.
I need You here so we can talk it out.
I’m giving You the things that pull me down.
Jesus can You teach me how to stand.
And if I fall I want to fall into Your hands.
So Heal my jaded soul.
Cuz I want to feel the weight letting go.
[CHORUS]
I’m Yours.
I’m Yours.
Excite me ! Ignite me ! Relight this fire !
Excite me ! Ignite me ! Relight this fire !
[CHORUS]
I’m yours.
Be alive in me.
I’m yours.
Be alive in me.
This month marks the 3RD anniversary of when my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ rescued me, saved me, and gave me a second chance at Life (always capitalized). I wasn’t particularly searching for God at the time, but He was there waiting for me to fall into His arms at the right time and the right place. Call it a miracle if you will because if you had told me three years ago that all of this would happen over the next three years then I would have laughed at you and written you off as a member of the loony bin.
The words to the song above accurately depict my feelings at the time of my unscheduled “Rebirthing”. They remain to be just as true today right here right now as they were yesterday, last week, last month, last year, and three years ago this month. The euphoria never ends. I want Jesus Christ to be alive in me always and forever Amen. Deep within my heart and my soul. I want Him to rule what I am all about, for I am absolutely nothing whatsoever without Him. I am His creation. I am His Disciple. He IS alive in me !
The Tuesday night saga continues with the flagship weekly series of this here blog:
1. TODAY I took a day off from work. I actually took 8.0 out of my accumulated 1,386.5 hours of sick leave. That’s just a little over one-half of one percent of all of my sick leave. I was not actually sick today, but sick leave may be utilized for any type of medical appointments, and I did just that today.
2. This morning at precisely 9 AM I reported to my new personally hand-selected Family Practice M.D. Here’s a brief summary. My weight is virtually perfect for my height and age. My blood pressure is extremely normal. My heart functions as determined by the EKG is about as average as can possibly be. Oh yeah – they also took a lot of blood from me. They will check it all out to see how it all looks. I have a follow-up appointment for the ‘results show’ next Monday morning.
3. Later in the morning I ventured over to Firestone for routine preventive maintenance on my car which incidentally hit 59,500 miles today. That’s 59,500 miles over the past 2,231 days for an overall average of 26.67 miles per day – slightly below the national driving average of 33.33 miles per day. Firestone did the oil and filter change, the tire rotation, and the alignment in about two hours while I waited. I’m always satisfied with their work.
4. While I waited for my car at Firestone I walked on over to Mamma Mia where I enjoyed a GINORMOUS Lunch consisting of salad with blue cheese dressing, spaghetti and meatballs, garlic rolls, and soda. The food was great, the service was great, and they also have an unusually clean and modern bathroom for a mom-n-pop Italian ristorante !
5. The last stop on my errand-filled Tuesday was at the legendary Woody’s Barber Shop for a haircut. My last haircut was 7 weeks and 3 days ago, so I imagine that my next haircut will be sometime during the final week of September. That sounds about right. I think I average about 6 to 7 haircuts per year.
6. Most of the southeast coastal region of Florida has received two to three feet (24 to 36 inches) of rain over the past three months. It was a bit on the hot and dry side during much of the month of July, but I am forecasting a return to the cooler and wetter weather that we experienced during much of May and June for the latter portion of August into September and October. El Niño is in full effect here in America’s Riviera.
Thank You for your attention my friends, and Thank You for your continued support of the fine art of blogging. Good Day !
After a long hard day at work on a Monday – all ya wanna do is laugh.
Coming out of the ‘Loony Bin’ this week I present to you a joke and a song that’s not so politically correct, but it made me chuckle, giggle, and guffaw:
An Indian walks into a cafe with a shotgun in one hand pulling a male buffalo with the other. He says to the waiter: “Want coffee.”
The waiter says: “Sure, Chief, coming right up.”
He gets the Indian a tall mug of coffee. The Indian drinks the coffee down in one gulp, turns, and blasts the buffalo with the shotgun causing parts of the animal to splatter everywhere, and then just walks out.
The next morning the Indian returns. He has his shotgun in one hand, pulling another male buffalo with the other. He walks up to the counter and says to the waiter: “Want coffee.”
The waiter says: “Whoa ! We’re still cleaning up your mess from yesterday. What was all that about anyway ?”
The Indian smiles and proudly says: “Training for position in U.S. Congress: Come in, drink coffee, shoot the bull, leave mess for others to clean up, disappear for rest of day.”
